Personality

Obito is loud, boastful, and highly competitive with Kakashi. He tries to impress Rin by dismissing Genye's accomplishments and insisting that he and Kakashi could accomplish the same feats. 8

Obito reunites with Genye and Mei at a restaurant while celebrating a completed mission with Rin and Kakashi. He boasts about his closeness with Rin, only for Genye to point out that Kakashi is also present. 8

During the Chūnin Exams, he fights alongside Kakashi and Rin against Team 8. His focus breaks when Rin is struck by Genye's Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm, allowing Asuma to put a trench knife to his throat. 15

After failing his exam while Kakashi succeeds, Obito becomes despondent. His feelings for Rin and insecurity around Kakashi culminate in the awakening of his Sharingan, though Genye and Asuma had impersonated Rin as a prank. 18 19

Chūnin Promotion and Kannabi Bridge

Two years later, Obito has become a Chūnin but still misreads Rin's invitation beneath the cherry blossom tree as a confession. Genye prevents him from attending after showing him that the gathering is actually for Kakashi's jōnin promotion, then takes Obito out to celebrate his own promotion instead. 27

On the Kannabi Bridge mission, Obito objects when Minato names Kakashi the squad leader. When Rin is captured by Iwagakure shinobi, he rejects Kakashi's order to prioritize the mission and pursues her rescue. 28 29

Obito and Kakashi reconcile during the rescue operation, combining Obito's Sharingan perception with Kakashi's combat skill to defeat Taiseki and confront Kakkō. When Kakkō collapses the cave, Obito throws Kakashi to safety but is left beneath a falling boulder. 29
