Sun Wukong was a golden-furred monkey warrior renowned as the Great Sage Equal to Heaven. He wore a Purple Gold Crown and chainmail armor, wielded the Ruyi Jingu Bang, and could travel 108,000 li in a single somersault. His legend includes stealing the Peaches of Immortality and celestial elixir, overturning the Heavenly Court, and being suppressed beneath Five Finger Mountain by Tathagata for five hundred years. 2

Before his rise, he sought Patriarch Bodhi to learn immortality because he feared death, failure, and being looked down upon. Bodhi taught him the Seventy-Two Transformations and Somersault Cloud; Wukong eventually departed without looking back, believing himself invincible. He never returned despite Bodhi waiting for him. 24

Wukong's rebellion culminated in his attack on the Lingxiao Palace. After defeating the celestial defenders, he shattered the palace plaque with the Golden Cudgel and declared that he was done serving as an official of the Heavenly Court. 10

After his five-century imprisonment, Wukong protected Tang Seng during the pilgrimage for scriptures and later attained Buddhahood.
