Background / History
Slaughter City is rumored to be a domain left behind by a Soul Master who surpassed level 100 roughly a millennium ago. Its possible connection to a god's inheritance—particularly the Asura God—is treated as legend rather than certainty. Those who achieve one hundred consecutive victories in the Hell Slaughter Arena and clear Hell Road may receive the title of Slaughter King and the Divine Slaughter's Domain. 36 213
Spirit Hall does not control the city directly. Its law enforcers either execute Fallen Ones or force them into Slaughter City, where they can no longer easily return to the outside world. Qian Daoliu considers the city a useful containment system: eliminating every criminal outright could provoke greater violence, while destroying a suspected divine inheritance site could bring consequences Spirit Hall cannot bear. 212 214
Only six people are said to have left Slaughter City over the past millennium. 213
Entrance and Appearance
Slaughter City is reached through a blood-scented entrance town. Its access point lies beneath a tavern, beyond a descending tunnel lit by dim Soul Guidance Lamps. 211 212
- The tavern is dark even during daylight and frequented by Fallen Ones seeking admission. 211 212
- Tavern staff offer Bloody Mary, a murky, foul-smelling dark-red liquid made from human blood and poison, as the stated entry requirement. 212 213
- The city gate is made of pitch-black metal, decorated with hideous ghost faces and lit by traces of dark-red light. 212
- Black Armored Knights on armored warhorses guard the entrance and enforce its rules. 212 213
- The outer city initially resembles an ordinary but gloomy settlement; its inhabitants are often pallid, emaciated, and desperate. 213 214
- The inner city has more intact buildings, but its walls bear dark-brown stains and its air carries an even stronger odor of blood. 214
“Welcome to the Slaughter City. Here, you can obtain everything you desire; the price is your life.” 212
Rules and Administration
Entry
Prospective entrants are normally told to drink Bloody Mary, though Qian Daoliu bypasses this demand by destroying the offered cups and opening the underground entrance himself. 212
Those judged to have violated the rules must defeat a Black Armored Knight to gain entry. Yu Changge earned admission by dismounting and disarming one with Dragon Transformation, receiving identity token 9527. 212 213
Suppression of Soul Skills
Soul Ring skills cannot be used inside Slaughter City. However, Spirit Bone skills, Self-Created Soul Skills, domains, innate abilities, and martial-soul traits remain usable. 201 202 212 215
This restriction favors combatants who rely on physical techniques or abilities independent of Soul Rings. Yu Changge specifically enters with the advantage of Dragon Transformation, multiple Spirit Bones, Radiant Domain, and Xiao Huang's detached-beast nature. 201 202 215
Guides and Enforcement
Each newcomer receives a black-clad guide for twelve hours, during which the guide answers questions about the city. After that period, the newcomer is considered a formal resident. 213
The city is protected by an Enforcement Team. Its strongest known members are Soul Douluo permitted to use Soul Ring skills, while its captain is a Titled Douluo. Escape attempts are met with execution. 213
Hell Slaughter Arena
The Hell Slaughter Arena is the city's central proving ground and the primary route toward freedom.
| Rule | Details |
|---|---|
| Match format | Ten participants enter each match; only one may leave alive. 214 |
| Victory condition | Any method is permitted, provided the contestant is the final survivor. 214 |
| Entry cost | One cup of Bloody Mary, belonging either to the entrant or another person. 214 |
| Waiting area | Fighting is prohibited before a match begins. 214 |
| Residency requirement | Every resident must enter the arena at least once per year; surviving a battle extends their right to remain for another year. 213 |
| Alternative to fighting | Residents may contribute two cups of Bloody Mary monthly, but remain confined to the outer city. 213 |
| Route to departure | Win one hundred consecutive arena matches, then pass through Hell Road. 211 213 |
The inner city is accessible to those willing to take its risks, and requires no guards at its gates. The guide warns new arrivals to remain within five meters of her, as ambushes are common. 214
Inhabitants
- Fallen Ones — Criminals and fugitives who seek refuge in Slaughter City rather than face death outside. Many survive by supplying Bloody Mary rather than risking the arena. 212 214
- Black Armored Knights — Mounted enforcers stationed at the city gate. They test or punish entrants who violate the rules. 212 213
- Enforcement Team — The city's internal force against escape attempts; includes Soul Douluo with permission to use Soul Ring skills and a Titled Douluo captain. 213
- Black-clad guides — Officials assigned to newcomers for their first twelve hours in the city. Their presence deters other residents from attacking their charges. 213 214
Story Role / Major Arcs
Yu Changge's planned training
Yu Changge first intends to visit Slaughter City upon reaching Soul Emperor rank. His goals are to obtain the Divine Slaughter's Domain, temper his practical combat ability, and create techniques for his second Body Martial Soul. 198 201
He believes the domain will strengthen his own close-combat capability more directly than Radiant Domain, whose primary benefits favor Xiao Huang and light-element control. 201
Arrival and admission
After gaining his sixth Soul Ring and reaching level 65, Yu Changge travels to the entrance town with Qian Daoliu, Yue Guan, and Gui Mei. They enter the tavern, reject the Bloody Mary ritual, and descend into the underground passage. 211 212
Yu Changge defeats the Black Armored Knight at the gate using Dragon Transformation, receives identity token 9527, and enters Slaughter City alone. 212 213
First arena battles
Yu Changge immediately enters the inner city and obtains a cup of Bloody Mary by swiftly defeating a burly Fallen One. He then registers for the Hell Slaughter Arena. 214 215
Within several days, he participates in three arena matches and kills more than one hundred Fallen Ones, including ambushers who attack after his matches. He concludes that survival in Slaughter City requires creating enough fear that others no longer dare target him. 215
