Background / History

Shrek Academy presents itself as an elite institution that accepts only “geniuses”: Soul Masters under twelve years old with soul power above Rank 20. During its attempted recruitment of Zhou Tao, Flender stated that the academy did not seek official recognition and claimed it possessed three Soul Sages, two Soul Emperors, and distinguished graduates. Zhou Tao rejected the offer, questioned its authorization, and identified Yu Xiaogang as its possible connection to Spirit Hall. 13

The academy became directly opposed to Zhou Tao after Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun harassed Zhou Tao and Dugu Yan. Zhao Wuji intervened on behalf of the students, but was defeated and forced to surrender. Zhao Wuji subsequently warned Flender that Zhou Tao could eventually suppress the entire academy if left unchecked. 28 30 33

Yu Xiaogang later arrived at Shrek with Tang San and Xiao Wu, seeking Flender’s support after his earlier defeat by Zhou Tao. Flender allowed Yu Xiaogang to direct the students’ training and spirit-ring arrangements, while requiring those personally taught by him to acknowledge him as their mentor. Yu Xiaogang intended to use the academy’s students to avenge himself against Zhou Tao and prove his martial-soul theories. 31 33

Over several years, the academy assembled the Shrek Seven Devils: Dai Mubai, Ma Hongjun, Oscar, Tang San, Xiao Wu, Ning Rongrong, and Zhu Zhuqing. Because Shrek lacked qualification for the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament, Yu Xiaogang proposed placing the group in another advanced academy as exchange students. 34

Qin Ming later used his position at Heaven Dou Royal Academy to arrange for Shrek’s core students to join Imperial Fighting Team Second Team. However, Shrek’s group caused an incident upon arriving at Heaven Dou Royal Academy, including Tang San’s assault on Prince Xue Beng, and was expelled. Liu Erlong then offered Blue Tyrant Academy as an alternative destination. 58 60 61

Following the move to Blue Tyrant Academy, Shrek gained the foundation of a veteran advanced academy and the backing associated with the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. This enabled it to participate in the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament under the Shrek name. 74
