Background / History

Tang San enrolled at Notting Academy after Xiao Wu intervened when a doorman initially refused him entry. Her help left him deeply grateful and established their long-running bond. 40

At the academy, Tang San accepted Yu Xiaogang as his teacher, stating that “a teacher for a day” should be regarded as a father for life. His respect was rooted in having lacked paternal affection while growing up. 42

His earliest Soul Ring hunts were disastrous. While trying to save Yu Xiaogang from a Datura Snake, Tang San was bitten and escaped using his movement technique; he later returned to gather antidotal herbs and save his teacher. During this incident, he accidentally gained a ten-year white Soul Ring. 46 A subsequent hunt produced another ten-year white ring after Yu Xiaogang misidentified a Thousand-Illusion Vine as a Ghost Vine. 51

The two poor-quality rings left Tang San feeling inferior and gradually embittered toward Yu Xiaogang’s guidance. 47 51 Tang Hao later condemned Yu Xiaogang’s theories and admitted that he had only permitted the mentorship because of Yu Xiaogang’s powerful background. 158

Tang San traveled with Xiao Wu to Shrek Academy, where his low rank and white rings nearly prevented his admission. He was accepted only after invoking Yu Xiaogang’s letter and connection to the academy’s dean, with Xiao Wu supporting his claim. 58 80 He later revealed the Clear Sky Hammer, confirming that he possesses Twin Martial Souls and a connection to the Clear Sky Sect. 93 94

Personality

Tang San is intensely grateful and loyal toward those who help him, particularly Xiao Wu. Despite repeatedly feeling overshadowed by her strength, he vows to become powerful enough to protect her. 88

He is proud and values his dignity. He initially refused to duel Meng Yiran despite her provocation, and he resents being bound to Yu Xiaogang as a disciple despite losing faith in his teacher. 139

Tang San is protective and can act aggressively toward perceived threats to Xiao Wu and the Zhu sisters. He attacked Dai Mubai out of jealousy and protectiveness, and later beat Oscar for leering at the girls. 67 85
