Background / History

Forty-one years before the story, King Vegeta exiled the newborn Broly and his father, Paragus, to Vampa out of fear that Broly would become a Legendary Super Saiyan. Their spacecraft was destroyed, leaving them stranded on the hostile world. Broly later buries Paragus on Vampa after his death. 1 3 17

Broly was originally Zhang Yang, an Earth reader who transmigrated into Broly's body. His memories of another world give him knowledge of future events and the fate originally associated with Broly, including his eventual defeat by Gogeta. He rejects that predetermined role and resolves to define himself through survival and choice. 2 50

Vampa's toxic atmosphere, radiation, extreme temperatures, storms, and predatory beasts tempered him for four decades. He killed 12,000 beasts, developed combat senses extending roughly a thousand miles, and became the planet's apex predator. 1 2

After failing to attract rescuers, Broly develops a prototype short-range instant transmission technique and attempts to escape Vampa through space. His suppressed power later erupts so violently that Vampa begins to break apart. 4 5 10 11

Beerus and Whis investigate his energy signature and find him on Vampa. Beerus tests him with destruction energy, leading to a prolonged battle that drives Broly through multiple transformations and rapid evolution.
