Dr. Connors thought Peter was angry.
Gwen thought Peter was heartbroken.
But only Toby knew that Peter was actually just a little embarrassed and nervous.
Unlike in the original story, where Peter only accidentally discovered the briefcase his father had left behind after growing up, along with the things hidden inside it.
Because Toby, the butterfly effect, had entered this universe, many things had changed with the flutter of his wings.
Including when Peter received his father's belongings.
With Toby, someone his own age, by his side, Peter was nowhere near as lonely as he had been in the original story, and his personality had become much stronger and more optimistic.
So Ben had not hidden Richard's belongings out of fear that they would make Peter sad.
Instead, after some time had passed, he gave Peter the briefcase Richard had left behind.
So Peter had long since learned from the photo tucked inside the briefcase's inner compartment that his father and Dr. Connors had actually been close colleagues and friends.
That was why Peter had been interested in Dr. Connors from a young age, admired his expertise in cross-species genetics, and regarded him as his idol.
In Toby's view, the reason Peter had especially wanted to attend Dr. Connors's meet-and-greet Q&A this time was not only to see his idol, but also to personally ask Dr. Connors about his father's work back then.
Sure enough, Peter raised his head. There was no anger in his eyes; instead, he looked somewhat embarrassed as he looked at Dr. Connors.
"No, Dr. Connors, I should be the one apologizing. This was originally a project that you and my father were both responsible for, but because of my father, you've been stuck with it all this time. I should apologize to you on my father's behalf!"
Dr. Connors stared blankly at Peter. "You don't blame me?"
Peter scratched his head. "You didn't do anything wrong, so why would I blame you? My father's death was an accident. It had nothing to do with you."
Dr. Connors suddenly felt as though something had stabbed viciously into his heart. He looked at Peter, unable to say a word.
He had never expected that, after being proud his entire life and revered as an authority in cross-species genetics, his state of mind would be inferior to that of two children...
Richard, not only were you outstanding yourself, but you also had an outstanding son and an outstanding nephew...
As Dr. Connors fell into thought, Peter suddenly pointed at the blackboard on the wall and asked.
"Dr. Connors, may I borrow that?"
"Be my guest." Though he had no idea what Peter wanted to do, Dr. Connors, who felt guilty toward Peter at that moment, immediately nodded.
After receiving permission, Peter promptly picked up a pen and began writing on the blackboard.
Standing behind Peter, Dr. Connors watched the formulas Peter rapidly wrote across the board, and the more he looked, the more familiar they seemed.
He quickly recognized them. Wasn't this the formula for the lizard cell regeneration serum?
The formula he had spent ten years trying to solve, yet had never been able to reach the correct result for.
But now, in less than a minute, Peter had written the complete formula on the blackboard, surpassing Dr. Connors's ten years of effort!
"This... this is..."
Dr. Connors was so excited that even his voice trembled.

Thud—
As Peter finished his final stroke, he turned and nodded at Dr. Connors.
"That's right. This is the final formula for the lizard regeneration serum. My father had actually already completed it, but before he could give it to you, the accident happened..."
Dr. Connors slowly walked up to the blackboard. Looking at the correct formula that had troubled him for ten years, now laid out before his eyes, his gaze was filled with complicated emotions as he murmured.
"Richard, ten whole years have passed. I never thought you'd still teach me a lesson. You really were something..."
After his sigh of emotion, hope flared once more in Dr. Connors's eyes. He turned to Gwen and said.
"Gwen, could I trouble you to tell the interns that I have an urgent research project to deal with, so the Q&A session will have to be postponed? Could you take them to the next activity?"
Naturally, Gwen knew that the problem which had troubled her teacher for ten years had just been solved, and that Dr. Connors would no longer have the mood to teach the interns. She readily agreed.
Then Dr. Connors looked at Peter again and invited him with a smile. "Peter, would you be interested in taking your father's place and completing this meaningful research with me?"
Peter pointed at himself, both startled and delighted. "Me? Can I really?"
Dr. Connors said leisurely, "Of course. I'll arrange an assistant position for you and pay you a salary too~"
At those words, Peter was so excited that even his neck turned red, and he could hardly wait to agree.
But before agreeing, he turned to Toby and asked, "Toby, is that okay?"
He had not forgotten that Uncle Ben and Aunt May had said he was not allowed to think about getting a part-time job right now, and that he needed to focus on studying.
But if Toby had no objection, then with Toby on his side, he believed he could definitely persuade the old couple.
Toby said blandly, "It's your own business. Make your own decision. You only need to remember that I'll always stand by your side."
Peter did not catch the deeper meaning in Toby's words. He merely took it as Toby agreeing, and so he eagerly threw himself into the regeneration serum research with Dr. Connors.
Toby shook his head slightly and did not disturb them any further, leaving the laboratory with Gwen.
Although his plan to take Peter to find Super Spider had changed, it was not a big problem.
He had planned to take a few more Super Spiders anyway. When the chance came, he would release one onto Peter and let it bite him.
The result would be the same.
So after leaving the laboratory, Toby used going to the restroom as an excuse. Rather than following Gwen to the intern team, he left on his own.
Afterward, Toby made his way toward the Super Spider breeding room with practiced ease.
Since he was already prepared to obtain the Super Spiders, Toby naturally had not come without making preparations.
Yesterday, he had asked Kingpin to obtain the structural plans of Osborn Tower, as well as the genetic pattern passcode for the Super Spider breeding room.
After avoiding several surveillance spots that were likely to arouse suspicion, Toby quickly arrived at Osborn Enterprises' Super Spider breeding room.
Using the genetic pattern passcode he had acquired beforehand to unlock the door, Toby walked inside openly.
According to the intelligence Kingpin had provided, there were no cameras inside the breeding room, so he did not need to worry about being filmed.
Inside the breeding room, the Super Spiders bred by Peter's father had been implanted with his own genetic lock. As a result, Osborn Enterprises could only make use of their super-tough spider silk and could not utilize the Super Spiders' other abilities.
