Background / History

Enel was feared and isolated during childhood on God’s Island. He recalls being hated as a “child of sin,” treated as someone who killed without blinking, and nearly subjected to cloud-drifting exile. After obtaining thunder powers, he resolved to make everyone acknowledge him as the supreme god of God’s Island, regardless of whether they feared or opposed him. 49

Before his defeat, Enel planned to use the Kuja Pirates to help secure his rise as the Thunder God of God’s Island. He attacked their ship with Divine Punishment, Thirty Million Volts, abducted the sleeping Norse, and forced Hancock’s crew to eliminate the island’s rebels. 46 47 48

His conflict with Norse escalated into a destructive battle between Raigo and the Sun. Injured after the clash, Enel took the Shandia chief hostage and threatened to kill Shandians before Norse defeated him with Light vs. Darkness. 56 57 58

Inside his own inner world, Enel confronted the darkness created by his trauma. Guided by Norse’s light, he chose to fight through it and accept rebirth. He subsequently joined the Kuja Pirates so that he could remain near Norse. 59 60

Appearance

Enel initially appeared as a bare-chested man with four tomoe-marked drums behind his back, often surrounded by blue lightning. 50

Following a month-long operation by Emporio Ivankov, Enel gained an exceptionally feminine appearance and began dressing as a woman, though he still identifies as male. 111 113 228

Personality

Before his rebirth, Enel was cruel, unstable, and intensely prideful. He reacted violently to disrespect, regarded himself as a god, and used civilians and Divine Soldiers as targets to train his Mantra. His hostility toward God’s Island stemmed from childhood rejection and resentment. 47 49 58

After Norse confronted his inner darkness, Enel became fiercely loyal to him and readily accepted Norse’s leadership. He remains arrogant, theatrical, and eager to prove himself against powerful enemies, but can show restraint when ordered not to harm others. 60 67 183 231

Enel initially developed an intense attraction to Norse after his rebirth. Later, Norse notes that the influence behind this attachment had weakened, but Enel still preferred his current identity and presentation. 60 240
