Background / History
Fisher Tiger saved Hancock and her sisters, making him the person they regarded as their lifelong hero and benefactor. When they learned that Rear Admiral Strawberry had ambushed and fatally wounded him, the sisters pursued the Marine officer for revenge. Hancock awakened Conqueror's Haki during their clash and defeated Strawberry. 10
Three years before her confrontation with Norse, Hancock saved him and allowed him aboard the Kuja Pirates' ship. She regarded him as an unproductive errand runner who spent much of his time sleeping or disappearing, unaware of the strength he had concealed. 4
Appearance
Hancock is a black-haired woman whose imposing beauty is repeatedly central to both her reputation and her Devil Fruit ability. After removing the slave mark from her back, she began dressing with greater confidence. 19
- Wears outfits including a white, cherry-blossom-patterned fitted dress and a python-scale robe. 19 39
- Uses her long black hair and composed posture to project an imperial presence. 27 49
- Sits on a golden throne aboard the Golden Thunder Vessel. 68
Personality
Hancock is intensely proud, possessive of her authority, and quick to punish perceived disrespect. She expects others to recognize her status as the Empress and reacts fiercely when someone threatens Norse or challenges her command. 4 23 39
Her pride conceals deep loyalty to the people she loves. Fisher Tiger's death drove her to seek vengeance, while her feelings for Norse gradually made her more open, affectionate, and willing to show vulnerability. 10 18 90 She can also become jealous, particularly when she believes someone may draw Norse's attention away from her. 27 61 162
After losing control in a berserk state and petrifying lives indiscriminately, Hancock was overcome with guilt and sought Norse's reassurance and help in making amends. 201
Abilities & Skills
Love-Love Fruit
Hancock's Devil Fruit grants charm-based petrification powers. Its effectiveness can exploit a target's attraction to her, but several techniques can petrify targets regardless of attraction.
- Mero Mero Mellow — Fires heart-shaped beams that petrify affected opponents; Hancock used it to petrify surrounding Marines. 39
- Slave Arrow — Her strongest petrification technique, firing a large barrage of arrows. It can petrify targets on impact regardless of whether they are attracted to her, including nonliving objects. 4 48
- Petrifying heart arrows — Can petrify incoming cannonballs and enemy warships before their attacks reach the Kuja Pirates. 112
- Charm limitation — Her beauty-based charm does not affect everyone; Caroline was unmoved by it. 110
- Devil Fruit weakness — Seawater can suppress her Fruit power and severely weaken her. 175
Love-Love Fruit Awakening
After training on another planet, Hancock awakened her Fruit and gained a far wider petrification effect. 167
- Releases a crimson mist that petrifies every object it passes through. 167
- The mist is unaffected by wind and ordinary weapons. 167
- Her awakened petrification domain has a limited range. 167
- Opponents with sufficiently stronger Haki, particularly stronger Conqueror's Haki, can still threaten her. 167
Haki
Hancock has command of all three known forms of Haki.
- Conqueror's Haki — Awakened against Strawberry; can overwhelm crowds and render weaker opponents unconscious. 10 77
- Conqueror's infusion — Imbues arrows with Conqueror's Haki to improve their speed, force, piercing power, and durability. 47
- Observation Haki — Detected Enel while he was hidden behind a mast and used predictions of opponents' movements to guide Slave Arrow barrages. 47 48
- Armament Haki — Covered parts of her body with Armament Haki to reduce the damage from Enel's thirty-million-volt lightning. 47
Physical Combat
Hancock is capable of directly contesting powerful opponents even without relying solely on charm.
- Fought Rear Admiral Strawberry in a battle severe enough to awaken her Conqueror's Haki. 10
- Intercepted the Eight-Forked Serpent's massive tail with a kick during their petrification showdown. 132
- Resisted Enel's lightning attack long enough to avoid severe injury, though she was ultimately left numb and collapsed. 47
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Salome — Hancock's intelligent pet snake, capable of coiling into a large bow for her arrows. 47
- Metal arrows — Used with Haki and her petrification techniques. 47
- Golden Thunder Vessel — The Kuja Pirates' gold-plated airship, built with gold valued at two billion Beli; Hancock has a throne aboard it. 68
Relationships
- Norse — Romantic partner. Their relationship began with hostility and confusion but developed after Hancock confessed her feelings; she relies heavily on him emotionally and fiercely protects him. 4 18 39 90 201
- Boa Sandersonia — Younger sister and Kuja Pirate. Joined Hancock in avenging Fisher Tiger and supports her in battle. 10 132
