According to Qin Qi's later account to Heaven Dou's instructors, the original dispute began when Huo Wu and Dugu Yan both wanted the same remaining piece of clothing. Huo Wu resorted to violence, and Dugu Yan subsequently suffered repeated defeats while trying to avenge herself with other Heaven Dou students 26.

The conflict escalates into a team battle with pride on the line: the losing academy's students must bow when meeting the winners' academy students in the future 20. Blazing Fire Academy initially gains momentum after focusing fire on Yu Tianheng and defeating him immediately, but Qin Qi takes command, stabilizes Heaven Dou's formation, and defeats key Blazing Fire agility attackers 21 22.

In the final stage of the battle, Huo Wushuang and Huo Lie attempt to protect Huo Wu while she gathers power, receiving enhancement from the academy's two support-type brothers. During a meeting intended to curb the academy conflict, the Blazing Fire Dean joins the dispute between the various academy representatives. The meeting devolves into a fight, after which the academy heads broadly authorize their students to fight rival academy students in the streets so long as they do not kill them 113.

During the meeting, the Blazing Fire Dean openly mocks Beast Academy after it sides with Spirit Hall, citing Huo Wu's prior victory over seven of its students as proof of the academy's poor showing 113.
