Background / History

Hidden Leaf is Qiao Luo's home village and the base he hopes to survive long enough to eventually leave if necessary. Early in the story, he considers using Tsunade's connections to become a medical ninja or logistics personnel rather than being sent directly into the most dangerous battlefield roles 1.

During the Second Shinobi World War, Hidden Leaf fights on multiple fronts in the Land of Rain, including against Hidden Sand, Hidden Stone, and Hidden Rain. The strain is severe enough that Qiao Luo graduates from the Ninja Academy as a genin despite poor grades, because the village needs more manpower for the war 1 7 11.

Hidden Leaf's war effort improves sharply after Tsunade develops antidotes for Chiyo's poisons. Her arrival at the frontline camp raises morale, and the village immediately launches counterattacks that reclaim lost territory and eventually drive Hidden Sand out of the Land of Rain 7 11 35 38.

After the Hidden Sand front stabilizes, Hidden Leaf turns its attention to Hidden Rain. Tsunade counters Hanzō of the Salamander's poison, and Hidden Leaf forces defeat Hanzō's army after a major battlefield clash. Following Hanzō's death, Hidden Leaf launches a full assault and occupies Hidden Rain Village in less than half an hour 39 40 41 42 44.

Hidden Leaf later dispatches ANBU reinforcements to the Land of Whirlpools after the Uzumaki Clan comes under attack by ninja from multiple villages and factions. The mission is officially to rescue Uzumaki survivors and eliminate enemy ninja, though Root separately moves to seize Uzumaki sealing techniques for itself 64 65.

Government & Politics

Hokage Leadership

Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, manages Hidden Leaf's wartime deployments, logistics, battlefield rewards, and personnel cultivation. He personally assigns Tsunade to deliver the antidote to the front lines and later rewards Qiao Luo and Mikoto for their contributions 7 49.

Hiruzen sees Qiao Luo and Mikoto as rare Uchiha talents who may inherit the Will of Fire. He intends to cultivate them as village-aligned Uchiha, continuing a policy of dividing the Uchiha Clan by suppressing one faction while winning over another 7 49.

Uchiha Marginalization

The Uchiha Clan is politically isolated within Hidden Leaf. At the frontline camp, Uchiha jonin remain separate from the other Hidden Leaf jonin, and Qiao Luo observes that the clan's poor political instincts worsen their isolation 11.

The village's policy of isolating the Uchiha dates back to the Second Hokage's era, especially after Uchiha Setsuna's rebellion and Tobirama Senju's death. Hiruzen still distinguishes between hostile Uchiha factions and village-loyal Uchiha such as Uchiha Kagami, Qiao Luo, Mikoto, and Uchiha Ryoshi's dove faction 7.

ANBU and Root

Hidden Leaf's ANBU operates under the Hokage and is organized into squads and four-person teams. Its training includes assassination, stealth, emergency combat techniques, and ideological education emphasizing loyalty to the Hokage and village 64.

Root is led by Danzō Shimura and acts separately from regular ANBU interests. During the Land of Whirlpools crisis, Danzō sends Root members not to reinforce the Uzumaki Clan, but to seize sealing techniques and prevent Uzumaki bloodline assets from falling into other villages' hands 65 69 70.

Major Conflicts

War Against Hidden Sand

Hidden Leaf suffers heavy casualties from Chiyo's poison until Tsunade develops an antidote. Once the antidote reaches the frontline camp, Hidden Leaf morale surges and the village launches immediate counterattacks 7 11.

Hidden Sand later sends an assassination squad to attack the Hidden Leaf camp, including elite puppet masters Kui and Linglan. The assault fails, and Hidden Leaf continues pressing the advantage until Hidden Sand is completely driven from the Land of Rain 36 37 38.

War Against Hidden Rain

After Hidden Sand withdraws, Hidden Leaf redeploys pressure toward Hidden Rain. Tsunade cracks salamander poison, removing one of Hanzō's main battlefield advantages 39 40.

Hidden Leaf and Hidden Rain forces accidentally meet while both are attempting surprise attacks. The battle escalates into a confrontation involving Hanzō, Jiraiya, Tsunade, the Ino-Shika-Cho trio, Qiao Luo, Mikoto, and numerous troops 41 42.

After Hanzō dies, Hidden Leaf exploits Hidden Rain's leaderless state and occupies Hidden Rain Village through a rapid full-scale assault 44.

Land of Whirlpools Reinforcement

Hidden Leaf sends ANBU reinforcements after the Land of Whirlpools is invaded by multiple enemy forces seeking Uzumaki sealing techniques and bloodline assets. Tsunade and Elephant lead the main response, while Qiao Luo's ANBU team clears enemy ninja and helps escort Uzumaki survivors 64 65 66 67.

The crisis exposes a split between Hidden Leaf's official alliance with the Uzumaki Clan and Root's opportunism. While ANBU works to rescue survivors, Root attempts to capture Uzumaki clansmen and seize secret techniques 65 69 70.
