Background / History

The Yellow Mountain Sword Sect is a sword cultivator sect from the Cultivation World. During recruitment, its grounds occupied the center of the sect recruitment plaza, reflecting its influence over the surrounding region. Its requirements were correspondingly strict: cultivators with supreme-grade spiritual roots could directly become personal disciples, those with high-grade roots entered the inner sect, and those with mid-grade roots or low-grade roots at Late Qi Refinement could enter as outer disciples. 23

Its entrance is protected by a formation gateway; beyond it lie mountain peaks above a sea of clouds, where spiritual energy is markedly denser than outside. Visitors must undergo identity-token verification even when recognized by the gate guards. 24

New recruits enter as outer sect disciples and spend their first ten years under East Dawn Peak's management. Their identity-plate numbers also designate their East Dawn Peak cave abodes. 25

East Dawn Peak specifically trains newly inducted disciples. Its leadership includes Peak Master Han, Elder Meng, and Elder Mo. 26

As a sword sect, it distributes the Yellow Mountain Sword Venerable's Basic Swordsmanship to every new disciple. The technique comprises thirteen foundational forms distilled from the patriarch's lifelong understanding of the Sword Dao and emphasizes that the Great Dao is simplest. 30 424

The sect maintains a Trial Tower for sword cultivators. Outer sect disciples use it both to gain swordsmanship insights and to compete for a top-ten Qi Refinement ranking that grants entry to the inner sect; inner sect disciples also challenge it. 39 50

The sect later held an internal tournament for Foundation Establishment cultivators. Its top five participants would represent the sect in an inter-sect tournament, receive resources and magic treasures, and secure Supreme Purity Domain quotas. 111

During Qin Huaian's early time in the sect, it had roughly 50,000 members. Its population later exceeded 60,000 as cultivation resources recovered and recruitment expanded. 240

Founding and leadership

The sect was founded by the Yellow Mountain Sword Venerable, Huang Yue, a legendary figure in its original Cultivation World. 629 Huang Yue established the sect roughly ten thousand years before Qin Huaian's era and remained behind after founding it to strengthen its foundations before eventually transcending tribulation and ascending. 24 631

After ascending to the Luo River World, Huang Yue retained deep feelings for the sect he had created. He later learned Qin Huaian's true origins and regarded him as a fellow disciple and junior brother. 631 711 714

Shen Canglan served as sect master and was already at the Nascent Soul Late Stage when Qin Huaian met him. 72 He later entered the Violet Thorn Great World, where he spent centuries trying to locate the sect's scattered disciples. 993

Dispersal into the Luo River World

More than 500 Yellow Mountain Sword Sect disciples entered the Violet Thorn Great World from the Cultivation World, but they arrived scattered across an immense region. 977 Shen Canglan found only two through chance encounters over several centuries. 993

Heavenly Treasure Sacred Land later searched for sect disciples to use as leverage against Qin Huaian, capturing and threatening members who had not yet ascended to immortality. 765 766 768 At least one disciple was killed soon after arriving in the secret realm. 822

Other major factions separately located disciples, partly to prevent Heavenly Treasure Sacred Land from acquiring them and partly to establish goodwill with Qin Huaian. 835 977

Proposed rebirth

After Qin Huaian reunited more than thirty disciples with Shen Canglan at Violet Thorn Sacred Land, Violet Thorn Sacred Land offered to accept all of them as disciples. Qin Huaian also proposed that the Yellow Mountain Sword Sect could be re-established there once circumstances allowed, under Violet Thorn Sacred Land's protection. 1000

Shen Canglan recognized that the original sect's inheritance only extended through ascension and that establishing a force capable of protecting its members in the Violet Thorn Great World would be extremely difficult. Nevertheless, the reunited disciples remained deeply devoted to rebuilding the sect, and Qin Huaian identified Huang Yue as the most suitable leader for its revival. 1000

Qin Huaian's induction

Qin Huaian chose the Yellow Mountain Sword Sect despite its more demanding recruitment standards and entered through its guarded mountain gate as an outer sect disciple under East Dawn Peak. 23 24 25 He trained through the Trial Tower, whose sword-light trials and puppets tested cultivators' swordsmanship as well as cultivation level. 39

During his early cultivation, Qin Huaian practiced the sect-issued Basic Swordsmanship, gaining a foundation in the thirteen forms that Huang Yue had compiled for all disciples. 30

Sect competitions

The sect's disciples competed internally through Trial Tower rankings and a planned Foundation Establishment tournament. Qin Huaian later demonstrated the competitive strength of its sword cultivators by defeating Zhang Xinghan, a top-ten Trial Tower disciple from Joined Palms Peak, in two strikes. 50 111 131

The sect subsequently sent its leading Foundation Establishment disciples to inter-sect arena matches. He Zhiping survived a dangerous battle against Dragon Elephant Sect's Duan Shijun, Zhang Xinghan won the final bout, and the Yellow Mountain Sword Sect defeated Dragon Elephant Sect in their arena matches. 139

Separation and hostage crisis

After sect disciples were scattered into the Violet Thorn Great World, Heavenly Treasure Sacred Land began hunting them to threaten Qin Huaian. The use of Yellow Mountain Sword Sect members as hostages provoked the founding patriarch's fury. 765 766 768

Lin Tianyu was also targeted by Heavenly Treasure Sacred Land after ascending, but Huang Yue intervened and brought him to Heaven Scar Sword Abyss to cultivate and seek greater strength. 779 781 783

Rescue and reunion

Qin Huaian stormed a Heavenly Treasure Sacred Land encampment, rescued imprisoned sect disciples, and placed them in his Small World. 965 Major sects later offered protection or returned additional disciples they had located; Heavenly Dao Sect alone had found 25. 976 977

Qin Huaian eventually brought more than thirty rescued disciples to Violet Thorn Sacred Land, where they reunited with Shen Canglan. The sect members affirmed that Qin Huaian's enemies were their enemies and hailed him as the sect's greatest disciple. 993 994

Renewal plans and public call

At Violet Thorn Sacred Land, Qin Huaian offered the reunited disciples a choice between joining Violet Thorn Sacred Land and awaiting the eventual re-establishment of the Yellow Mountain Sword Sect. The disciples expressed enthusiasm for rebuilding their original sect, while Qin Huaian recommended Huang Yue as its future leader. 1000
