Personality

Tang San is intensely respectful and protective of Yu Xiaogang. When Wang Sheng insults his teacher, Tang San immediately ends their meal arrangement and warns him not to repeat it. 20 He also values standing up for companions, challenging Qi Dao after Xiao Wu is injured during their spar. 23 25

He is confident in his control-type martial soul and Tang Sect secret arts, initially believing that he could defeat Qi Dao in a life-or-death battle. His defeat leaves him unwilling to accept the gap between them, though he seeks Yu Xiaogang's analysis rather than dismissing the loss. 23 24

Tang San's loyalty to his teacher remains a driving force in his rivalry with Qi Dao: he hopes to defeat the student who publicly rejected Yu Xiaogang's instruction. After Wang Sheng calls Yu Xiaogang a freeloader with poor talent, Tang San defends his teacher and refuses to eat with the Dorm Seven students. 20

First Soul Ring

Yu Xiaogang learns that Tang San possesses the Clear Sky Hammer and resolves to help him acquire his first soul ring. Tang San later absorbs a Datura Snake soul ring, granting Blue Silver Entanglement and a paralysis effect to his Blue Silver Grass. 21 23 24

Duel with Qi Dao

Tang San watches Xiao Wu challenge Qi Dao and intervenes after Qi Dao defeats her with a scabbard strike. He uses Blue Silver Entanglement, Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, and hidden weapons, but Qi Dao cuts through every attack and wounds both of Tang San's wrists with two sword strikes. 22 23

Isolation and Resolve

Following the duel, Tang San and Xiao Wu are left alone as their peers depart. Tang San recognizes that Qi Dao's strength, speed, reactions, and swordsmanship surpass his own, then turns to Yu Xiaogang for an explanation and reassurance about his future potential. 24 25

Return to Notting Academy and Second Defeat

After Tang San and Xiao Wu reach Level 20, Headmaster Hans helps Tang San obtain a Ghost Vine second soul ring. When Qi Dao revisits Notting Academy, Tang San greets him respectfully while privately hoping to defeat him and restore Yu Xiaogang's reputation. Xiao Wu is injured after her charm skill rebounds, prompting Tang San to challenge Qi Dao again. His Godly Zhuge Crossbow, Blue Silver Grass defense, and Mysterious Jade Hand fail against Qi Dao's Sword Qi, leaving him with a severe chest wound. 75 77 78

In the confrontation that follows, Tang San pretends to be unconscious in the hope of learning Qi Dao's cultivation secret. Qi Dao discovers the hidden Tang Hao, holds Tang San under threat of Sword Intent, and plants a dormant strand of it within him to deter pursuit. Tang Hao warns Tang San against disturbing it. Tang San privately speculates that Qi Dao, like himself, may have come from another world, but this remains his theory. 79 80 81 82

Shrek Academy and the Soul Master Tournament

After Yu Xiaogang leaves Notting Academy, he brings Tang San and Xiao Wu to Shrek Academy. Tang San's cultivation advances rapidly, reaching Level 35 at thirteen and later the Level 40 bottleneck. Defeats against stronger martial souls deepen his doubts about Blue Silver Grass. 86 100 102 112

In Shrek's tournament match against Heaven Dou Academy, Tang San insists on serving as the core of the Seven-in-One Fusion Skill. The public revelation of Tang San's Clear Sky Hammer leads Tang Hao to take him away from Shrek. Four Spirit Hall Titled Douluo pursue them; Tang Hao uses the Great Sumeru Hammer and soul-ring detonation to escape, then severs his own right arm and left leg to survive his worsened injuries. After Tang San reaches Level 50, Tang Hao takes him to the Blue Silver Forest to awaken his inherited Blue Silver Emperor martial soul. Now a Soul King, Tang San enters Slaughter City to attempt Hell Road and seek Divine Slaughter's Domain. Tang Hao promises to meet him after he emerges. While Tang San is in the city, Qi Dao kills Tang Hao and destroys Ah Yin's remaining Blue Silver Emperor body.
