Tang San is intensely respectful and protective of Yu Xiaogang. When Wang Sheng insults his teacher, Tang San immediately ends their meal arrangement and warns him not to repeat it. 20 He also values standing up for companions, challenging Qi Dao after Xiao Wu is injured during their spar. 23 25
He is confident in his control-type martial soul and Tang Sect secret arts, initially believing that he could defeat Qi Dao in a life-or-death battle. His defeat leaves him unwilling to accept the gap between them, though he seeks Yu Xiaogang's analysis rather than dismissing the loss. 23 24

Arrival at Notting Academy
Tang San arrives at Notting Academy with Xiao Wu and joins Dorm Seven. He first sees Qi Dao in the cafeteria but does not speak with him. 19
Conflict over Yu Xiaogang
After Wang Sheng calls Yu Xiaogang a freeloader with poor talent, Tang San defends his teacher and refuses to eat with the Dorm Seven students. 20
First Soul Ring
Yu Xiaogang learns that Tang San possesses the Clear Sky Hammer and resolves to help him acquire his first soul ring. Tang San later absorbs a Datura Snake soul ring, granting Blue Silver Entanglement and a paralysis effect to his Blue Silver Grass. 21 23 24
Duel with Qi Dao
Tang San watches Xiao Wu challenge Qi Dao and intervenes after Qi Dao defeats her with a scabbard strike. He uses Blue Silver Entanglement, Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, and hidden weapons, but Qi Dao cuts through every attack and wounds both of Tang San's wrists with two sword strikes. 22 23
Isolation and Resolve
Following the duel, Tang San and Xiao Wu are left alone as their peers depart. Tang San recognizes that Qi Dao's strength, speed, reactions, and swordsmanship surpass his own, then turns to Yu Xiaogang for an explanation and reassurance about his future potential. 24 25
