Despite his easygoing nature, he has the pride expected of a freshman Soul Elder. He promises to fight Jiang Yue seriously if they meet in the assessment, and is angered by Dai Huabin’s provocation. 28 29 After losing, he accepts the result with good humor, asks Jiang Yue to win the championship, and looks forward to fighting him again. 30

Jiang Yue’s Counseling Room
Xie Huanyue becomes the counseling room’s most frequent visitor during the months before the freshman assessment. Though he claims to be seeking treatment for a loss of appetite, he primarily comes for Jiang Yue’s emotion-infused cooking, visiting four times in the first five days of one month. 21
His appetite extends beyond the snacks intended for clients: on one visit, he also consumes Jiang Yue’s prepared lunch while the latter is not paying attention. When Jiang Yue protests that the room is not a cafeteria, Xie Huanyue defends his visits by pointing out that he pays and praising the food. 21
After the round-of-sixteen match, Xie Huanyue accompanies Jiang Yue, Lu Bei, Zuo Fan, and the Luo brothers to the counseling room, where they also meet Zhang Lexuan. As Jiang Yue takes ingredients into the open kitchen, Xie Huanyue’s obvious excitement surprises the senior, who initially sees the occasion as merely an ordinary meal. 31
Freshman Assessment
