Background

Following the holy war four thousand years earlier, Shrek Academy became independent and ceased to belong to any empire. Shrek City consequently does not pay taxes to the surrounding nations, functioning in practice as a “nation within a nation.” 5

The academy is regarded as a holy land of soul masters and has accumulated extensive soul master knowledge across its ten-thousand-year history. It attracts talented students from throughout the continent, while its Outer Court also serves as a place for major clans and factions to meet and recruit young talent. 9 11

Campus and Organization

Shrek Academy and Shrek City occupy an enormous area on the Lima Plains. The eastern gate of Shrek City also serves as the academy entrance; during enrollment season, prospective students and their accompanying families crowd the admissions area. 5 11

Outer Court

The Outer Court accepts standard applicants under twelve years old with at least Rank 15 soul power and a city lord-level letter of recommendation. Applicants also pay ten gold soul coins in tuition upon registration. 4 5 11

• Freshmen are assigned to classes before the three-month freshman assessment; students who fail that assessment are expelled. 13 19 21
• The freshman assessment consists of round-robin and elimination stages. Students are reassigned to classes suited to their future development after passing. 13 21
• The academy holds promotion assessments at the beginning of each school year. Second-years must reach Rank 20 and obtain a second soul ring to remain enrolled. 37
• The Martial Soul Department and Soul Tool Department occupy distinct areas, with the Soul Tool Department’s buildings described as gray and visually different from those of the Martial Soul Department. 50
• Outer Court student uniforms progress from white to yellow, purple, and black by grade. 31

Inner Court and Sea God Pavilion

The Inner Court is considered Shrek Academy’s true core. Its surviving disciples are all exceptional talents with the potential to become Titled Douluos, and they commonly carry out missions as part of the Shrek Inspector Corps rather than remaining on Sea God Island. 31

Inner Court students wear red uniforms, representing a hundred-thousand-year soul ring. Sea God Pavilion stands at the academy’s highest level of authority; Mu En serves as its master, while Xuan Zi is its heir. 24 31 50

Facilities

• Library — The Outer Court library holds a vast collection, including records of rare martial souls and their traits, though it is sparsely used by students. 12 16
• Freshman dormitory building — Students of multiple grades and both genders reside in the same building. Jiang Yue was initially assigned to Dormitory 208. 11 12
• Soul Fighting District — Located in the northwestern Martial Soul Department, this arena hosts supervised soul fights. From fourth year onward, students must defeat ten peers of the same year to advance to fifth year. 17
• Beast Battle Area — The academy’s largest dedicated area combines an arena with soul beast enclosures. Lower-year students visit during promotion assessments, while students above fourth year generally fight soul beasts there weekly. 50
• Commercial street — A vendor-filled commercial area has developed outside the academy gates, serving students seeking food and other goods beyond the cafeteria. 17

• Jiang Yue — Standard-admission Outer Court student of Freshman Class Five; he won the freshman assessment with his team and later became a core disciple of the Weapon Soul Department. 11 34 36
• Mu En — Master of Sea God Pavilion; recognizes Jiang Yue’s potential, teaches him the Distraction Control Technique, and seeks to recruit him for the reserve team. 27 49 50
• Yan Shaozhe — Dean of the Martial Soul Department; personally oversees the freshman-assessment final drawing. 31
• Du Weilun — Outer Court Martial Soul Department’s Dean of Instruction; handles the aftermath of Jiang Yue and Dai Huabin’s dormitory battle and distributes freshman-assessment rewards. 15 35

Story Role / Major Arcs

• Jiang Yue first considers Shrek Academy because of its ties to the Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and the possibility that it holds records of the Distraction Control Technique. 4
• He visits during enrollment season with the Maple Leaf City Lord, confirms that he and Huo Yuhao are the same age, and observes the academy’s admissions standards. 5
• At age eleven and Rank 36, Jiang Yue enrolls through the standard admissions process as a control-type Soul Master and enters Freshman Class Five. 9 11
• Jiang Yue’s fight with Dai Huabin collapses part of the freshman dormitory building, prompting intervention by Du Weilun and a reassignment to a new dormitory. 14 15
• The academy’s freshman assessment establishes Jiang Yue’s team as champions. They receive a Void Demon Leopard Left Leg Bone as a special reward. 21 34 35
• Jiang Yue’s opinion of the academy deteriorates after it provides only a thousand-year soul beast for his fourth soul ring instead of the promised ten-thousand-year one. He later rejects involvement with the reserve team partly because he no longer trusts the academy to honor rewards. 35 43 47
• At the beginning of Jiang Yue’s second year, Mu En attempts to include him in selection for Shrek Academy’s Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Soul Dueling Tournament reserve team, expanding eligibility to second-year core disciples for that purpose. 49 50
