Background

Zichuan Xiu was born Lin He, a descendant of Lin Feng of the River Hill Lin Family. At six years old, he was brought to Imperial Capital City by Zuo Chuan Mingwang and entrusted to Zichuan Yuanxing, Chief of the Zichuan Clan. Yuanxing adopted him, renamed him Zichuan Xiu, and charged him with protecting Yuanxing's daughter, Zichuan Ning. Xiu accepted the name and swore loyalty to the clan. 42

Lin Junyu also became Xiu's adoptive father. Xiu felt an immediate sense of familiarity, dependence, and security around him, later explained as a resonance of their shared Lin bloodline. 43

For three years, Xiu studied under both fathers. Yuanxing arranged his formal education, while Lin Junyu taught him martial arts, military theory, The Art of War, and the Thirty-Six Stratagems. At nine, after completing his studies, he entered the newly established Far East Military Academy. 43

Personality

Xiu is adaptable and perceptive. Even as a hungry six-year-old unfamiliar with the Zichuan residence, he quickly assessed his surroundings, followed the guards without fear, and made a favorable impression on Yuanxing. 42

He is courageous but not fearless. At eleven, the prospect of leading only eight hundred cadets against a vastly larger army left him anxious and uncertain; he nevertheless chose to attempt the rescue of the trapped Central Army and Imperial Guards. 47

Xiu is energetic, mischievous, and often irreverent toward people close to him. He teases Lin Junyu, complains about patrol work, and is willing to use unconventional or shameless methods when building his forces. 67 101 103

Despite his flexible methods, he has firm principles regarding civilians and surrendering enemies. He punishes Ludi for killing prisoners, opposes the oppression of Far East beastmen, and publicly prosecutes demon soldiers responsible for atrocities. 227 262 266 267

  • Prioritizes diplomacy when possible, sending Bu Dan to negotiate before attacking the Iliya rebels. 256

Story Role / Major Arcs

Defense of Imperial Capital

After Zichuan Yuanxing is mortally wounded during the Flowing Wind Clan's attack, eleven-year-old Xiu returns with eight hundred cadets, secures the Imperial Capital's gates, and opposes Yang Minghua's proposal to cede territory. 46

With Lin Junyu's support, he infiltrates the enemy encirclement, reaches the trapped Central Army and Imperial Guard elites, and leads the counteroffensive that routs Flowing Wind Xishan's army. 47 48

Despite saving the capital, Xiu is tried for mutiny and rebellion. Ge Yingxing's intervention prevents his execution, but the Council of Elders exiles him to the Far East and demotes him. 52

Far East Commander and the Xiu Battalion

Xiu returns to the Far East, distinguishes himself in the Fifth Battle of Eternal River, captures the demon princess Kadan, and is later promoted to deputy commander. 57 58 59

After surviving further political purges in the Imperial Capital and failing to save three hundred Central Army officers from execution, he becomes increasingly aware of Zichuan Canxing's ruthlessness. 83 90

Assigned to recruit reserves, Xiu deliberately turns the task into an opportunity to establish his own military base. He names his new force the Xiu Battalion and begins training its initially unruly recruits into a capable army. 103 113

Raids into the Demon God Kingdom

During the Far East war, Xiu leads the Xiu Battalion behind demon lines. He disrupts logistics by destroying a major grain convoy, then advances as far as the Black River and Demon God Fortress. 149 152

Rather than besiege Demon God Fortress with only ten thousand men, he creates the illusion of a hundred-thousand-man army through staged marches, false camps, extra fires, and straw soldiers. 153

Light King of the Far East Beastmen

Pursued by Kalan's demon army, Xiu seeks an alliance with the Far East Holy Temple. He works with Bu Dan and the orcs to defend Goda Village through traps, terrain, and guerrilla warfare. 189 191

Wearing the Nuo Mask, Xiu personally leads the decisive charge and kills the demon general Kara. The victorious beastmen hail him as the Light King and pledge allegiance to him. 192

Governor-General of the Far East

After Lin Junyu subdues the demon race, Xiu learns that he has been appointed Governor of the Far East and given authority over demon forces in the region. Ross and his legion submit at Tarlan Fortress. 196 197

Xiu persuades Bu Dan to join his administration, promising humane treatment for beastmen, and organizes three armies to suppress Far East rebellions. 227

He pacifies Iliya Province through a mixture of negotiation, military force, prisoner management, and punishment for atrocities committed by his own side. 256 262

In Mingkan City, he dismantles abusive demon rule, holds a public trial for 237 accused demon soldiers, and executes 236 criminals. The action wins the trust of beastman communities and brings Vira's army into his camp. 264 266 267

After consolidating Minsk Province, Xiu introduces military pay, reorganizes demon and beastman forces, and receives Lin Junyu's formal decree naming him Governor-General of the Far East and King of Light. 269 271
