Adoption and education

Lin Junyu adopted Sterling as his second son alongside Di Lin. As a child, Sterling was notably mischievous and restless, prompting Lin Junyu to instruct him to follow Di Lin's lead and avoid causing trouble. He and Di Lin entered the Far East Military Academy's talent-reserve camp to prepare for officer training. 41

Sterling later discovered that Zichuan Xiu shared the same adoptive father. The three boys embraced their positions as brothers, with Sterling becoming the second brother between Di Lin and Zichuan Xiu. 54 55

Relationship with Li Qing

At age twenty-two, Sterling attended a banquet hosted by Zichuan Canxing, became intoxicated, and awoke beside Li Qing without remembering the previous night.
