Background / History

Di Lin was born to Commander Dijiang in the Imperial Capital. On the day of his birth, Lin Junyu approached Dijiang, offered the Shura Sword as a congratulatory gift, and arranged to become Di Lin's adoptive father and teacher. Lin Junyu promised instruction in strategy, governance, martial arts, and cultivation techniques. 41

As a youth at the Far East Military Academy, Di Lin displayed exceptional composure, decisiveness, ruthlessness, and administrative ability. At seventeen, Ge Yingxing promoted him to serve as his assistant and regarded him as a potential successor for the Far East Army. 45

Di Lin later feigned loyalty to Supreme Commander Yang Minghua alongside Zichuan Xiu, allowing Yang to believe he had recruited Di Lin as a weapon against his rivals. The three adopted brothers spent seven years preparing to remove Yang's faction; Di Lin ultimately turned his troops on Yang Minghua and ordered his arrest during the Imperial Capital crisis. 56 82

Personality

Di Lin is calculating, ambitious, and intensely practical. He habitually studies opponents' motives, exploits political rivalries, and treats power as something to be secured through preparation rather than sentiment. His handling of Luo Bo's case—publicly demanding execution so Luo Minghai would obstruct him and save Luo Bo instead—demonstrates his preference for indirect solutions. 105 110

His cold public image conceals strong loyalty toward his family and subordinates. He prioritizes Lin Junyu, Sterling, and Zichuan Xiu even when doing so harms his strategic position, and he is willing to accept punishment if it means saving them. 137 159

Di Lin values competence and despises officials whose ability does not match their authority. He responds enthusiastically to Lin Junyu's principle that capable people should rise while the corrupt are removed. 275
