Fang Qing trapped Sangji in the Mystic Ice Skyveil Formation and overwhelmed him through formations, talisman treasures, the Sea-Transforming Pearl, and sonic attacks. Despite Sangji's resistance, Fang Qing shattered his spiritual defenses and forcibly converted him. 127 128

Following his conversion, Sangji became Fang Qing's most important agent within the Secret Treasury Domain. He provided intelligence, cultivation materials, scriptures, and political access while continuing to act publicly as a White Bone Way authority. 129 131 170

After a prolonged and precarious seclusion, Sangji attained Dharma Kingship. He was invested as the White Bone Dharma King, placed in charge of Buddhist affairs in Ancient Shu, and received the Bone Sarira as a Purple Palace Buddhist artifact. 165 170

Sangji later became entangled in the internal power struggle of the Temple of All Living Beings Without Form. Sangji's initial Position Seal refinement left him in a poor condition and eventually in a prolonged slumber. After reincarnation, Sangji returned under the name Gui Sang and recovered the memories of his former identity in the Heaven of Purple Firmament. Sangji's former great vow had once destabilized his rank, but the world in which that vow was made had already ceased to exist.
