Background

Tang San arrived at Notting Academy alongside Yu Xiaogang. After Yu identified his twin martial souls, Tang San formally accepted him as master by kneeling and kowtowing, stating that a teacher should be respected as a father for life 2.

At the academy, Tang San met Xiao Wu and Meng Chen. A dream in which he and Xiao Wu studied and grew up together made him regard their relationship as something that should happen, causing resentment when Xiao Wu instead became close to Meng Chen 5 7 13.

Yu Xiaogang took Tang San to obtain his first soul ring. Tang San killed and absorbed a Mandala Snake exceeding four hundred years in age, becoming a Soul Master and gaining a venomous Entanglement skill 11 14.

Tang San challenged Meng Chen at Notting Academy, intending to demonstrate the results of Yu Xiaogang's training. Meng Chen revealed a thousand-year first soul ring and defeated him almost immediately; Tang San was bound and electrocuted unconscious 13 14 15. Afterward, the academy required Tang San to leave with Yu Xiaogang 16 17.

Six years later, Tang San encountered Meng Chen again in the Star Dou Great Forest while travelling with the Shrek group. The earlier defeat continued to provoke an intense reaction, though he temporarily restrained himself because Oscar needed the Phoenix-tail Cockscomb Snake Meng Chen had captured 37 38.

When Meng Chen killed the Phoenix-tail Cockscomb Snake, Tang San believed that both Oscar's prospective soul ring and his own foretold opportunity to obtain the Man-faced Demon Spider ring and Eight Spider Lances had been destroyed. He vowed to eventually use Tang Sect hidden weapons against Meng Chen 41.

Tang San later reunited with Tang Hao during a conflict involving Meng Chen and Ye Xishui. Though Tang Hao attempted to create an opportunity for him to escape, Tang San fled after witnessing Ye Xishui's overwhelming strength and came to believe that his father had been lost or captured 76 77 78.

After Xiao Wu severely injured him, Tang San awakened memories he regarded as those of his former God King existence. Believing Meng Chen's appearance had turned the world into a distorted “bug,” he resolved to restore his lost future and reclaim what he considered his rightful path 90 91 92.

Tang San travelled to the Blue Silver Forest seeking to repair his body through his Blue Silver Emperor bloodline. The Blue Silver King completed the awakening, but the process transformed Tang San into a woman instead 92 93. After his confrontation with Meng Chen and Xiao Wu in Heaven Dou City, Tang San became increasingly isolated. He later remained injured and traumatized after an encounter involving his father, eventually being found in a battered state outside Heaven Dou City 100 101 130.

Tang San ultimately decided that the Shrek group should separate and cultivate independently until they were strong enough to confront Meng Chen. Dai Mubai returned to the Star Luo Empire, while Tang San abandoned Oscar and Ma Hongjun and travelled alone to the Clear Sky Sect 131.

At the Clear Sky Sect, Tang San presented himself as a lost descendant and deliberately revealed both the Blue Silver Emperor and Clear Sky Hammer to secure the sect's attention. Tang Xiao was overwhelmed by Tang San's resemblance to Ah Yin and adopted him as his daughter. Tang San accepted the arrangement, calling Tang Xiao “Father” and using the new position to obtain protection and cultivation resources 131.

Tang Xiao later taught Tang San the Clear Sky Nine Absolutes. Tang San's memories from his previous life allowed him to understand the techniques almost immediately, although his current body lacked the strength and physical conditioning of his former divine body. His training intensified his determination to kill Meng Chen and recover what he believed had been taken from him 164.

Tang San subsequently entered Slaughter City and achieved one hundred consecutive victories. His attachment to Xiao Wu becomes possessive after his dream of their presumed future together. He is angered by her closeness with Meng Chen and repeatedly treats Meng Chen as an intruder disrupting what he believes should have happened 5 7 13.

His rivalry with Meng Chen undermines his usual composure. He reacts furiously upon seeing him again six years later, insists on revisiting their old grievance, and vows revenge after Meng Chen kills the Phoenix-tail Cockscomb Snake 37 41. Despite this, he is willing to delay revenge when he believes doing so will help Oscar acquire a needed soul ring 38 41.

Tang San becomes increasingly emotionally volatile after Tang Hao's defeat, Xiao Wu's rejection, and his physical transformation.
