Background

Thunder Hell Vine awakened as Meng Chen's first martial soul during his awakening ceremony in Xiahe Village. It was identified publicly as a mutated lightning vine martial soul, though Meng Chen recognized it as an existence containing the Thunder God's bloodline and ultimate lightning attribute. Its awakening drew the attention of the God of Destruction because of its destructive power. 1

It is regarded as an exceptionally dangerous lightning-attributed plant martial soul. Records of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect describe a ten-thousand-year Thunder Hell Vine annihilating a hunting party composed of Soul Douluos and Soul Sages more than six centuries earlier. The sect later designated it as a taboo and the natural nemesis of lightning-attributed martial souls and soul beasts. 34

The Thunder Hell Vine encountered by Meng Chen in Ten Thousand Thunder Valley had survived for an unknown period and reached 49,999 years of cultivation. Although its Thunder God's bloodline made it extraordinarily powerful, that same bloodline imposed a severe restriction: ordinary Thunder Hell Vines commonly self-destruct between twenty thousand and forty thousand years due to their excessive lightning-element power, while this specimen had exhausted its vitality just short of the fifty-thousand-year threshold. 98

Unable to advance further on its own, the sentient Soul Beast negotiated with Meng Chen, whose martial soul it considered of the same origin. It offered to sacrifice itself as his fifth soul ring in return for his protection of its origin seed and assistance in helping its next life reach one hundred thousand years of cultivation. 96 98

Meng Chen accepted the agreement and swore to protect the seed. However, the Thunder Hell Vine also left all of Ten Thousand Thunder Valley's lightning-element power within Meng Chen as a contingency: if the reincarnation seed fails to reach the one-hundred-thousand-year threshold, the accumulated power will cause him to explode and die. 98 99

After the sacrifice, Ten Thousand Thunder Valley's perpetual thunderstorm vanished. Meng Chen later planted the reincarnation seed in Thunder Marsh, within an area of especially violent heavenly lightning, where it displayed a faint response of happiness. 99 128

The seed successfully developed into a conscious reincarnated Thunder Hell Vine capable of transmitting its thoughts through lightning over thousands of miles. However, a lightning-attributed snail Soul Beast arrived in Thunder Marsh approximately two years before Meng Chen reached Rank 80 and repeatedly consumed both the Heavenly Thunder gathered by the vine and the vine's own branches and cultivation. 165

The predator, later identified as the newly advanced Hundred-Thousand-Year Ten-Black Collapse Snail, reduced the vine to roughly half its former cultivation. Although the Titan Giant Ape and Sky Azure Bull Python knew of its pleas for aid, they initially ignored it out of resentment toward Meng Chen and eventually forgot its plight. The vine ceased calling for help until it sensed Meng Chen's breakthrough aura. 165 166

Meng Chen, Xiao Wu, the Titan Giant Ape, and the Sky Azure Bull Python subsequently ambushed the Ten-Black Collapse Snail. The Thunder Hell Vine absorbed the snail's lightning attacks to restore itself and drain the beast's power, allowing Meng Chen to secure the creature as his eighth soul-ring source. 166
