The tense atmosphere in the living room completely vanished, leaving only silence.
In the end, Gu Yue could not hold back any longer. "I've answered your questions. Now, shouldn't you tell me where the Golden Dragon King is?"
"I can." Xiling nodded, with no intention of concealing it. "The Golden Dragon King's origin is sealed inside Tang Wulin."
Gu Yue's brows furrowed slightly at that answer. She could not understand why the mighty Golden Dragon King had been sealed inside a human child.
She did not question whether his words were true. A reincarnated God King had no reason to deceive her, nor did he need to.
Seeing Gu Yue's confusion, Xiling continued, "A temporal-spatial turbulence occurred in the God Realm, while the gods led by the God of Destruction launched a civil war, leaving the God Realm's defenses weak."
"The Golden Dragon King, who had been sealed in the Divine Forbidden Land, took the chance to break free. In the end, he was slain by the combined efforts of the God Realm's three God Kings."
"Before dying, the Golden Dragon King forcibly drove his Divine Core into the body of the newborn son of one of those God Kings, making him lose his child as revenge."
"To save his son, that God King joined forces with the other two God Kings to set down eighteen seals. After sealing the Divine Core, they sent it to Douluo Continent."
"They also left behind a strand of divine consciousness to suppress the Golden Dragon King's violent origin and help his child wield the Golden Dragon King's power."
After hearing the whole story, Gu Yue remained silent for a long time. If she had received this news before, she would certainly have wanted to devour the Golden Dragon King Bloodline, restore the complete Dragon God, and bring about the revival of soul beasts.
But now, she could not.
The Xiling beside her would never permit her to do so.
The enormous living room was silent enough for a pin to drop. Her eyes shifted constantly, holding shock, sorrow, and melancholy, before finally turning into a trace of killing intent.
Even if the Golden Dragon King was dead, his power could never be allowed to fall into human hands. Though she could not fuse with it, having it in Na'er was still better than leaving it in a human.
Xiling said nothing. He simply sat quietly on the sofa, giving Gu Yue time to process the information.
After a long while, Gu Yue took a deep breath and returned to her usual self.
"When do you intend to act, then? How do you need me to cooperate?" Gu Yue used an honorific this time. The information Xiling had shared with her today was too important, and it was also a sign of respect for this God King.
Sensing the change in Gu Yue's attitude toward him, Xiling shook his head. "There's no need for that. Just address me normally. In a sense, you're my little sister too."
"As for when to act, there's no rush. That strand of divine consciousness has three chances to act, and each time, it can at least wield the power of a peak Rank-One God."
"We'll wait for the right opportunity and deal with everything at once, once and for all."
He did not know how much the Herrscher transformation would erode his humanity, so he planned to extract the Golden Dragon King Origin, handle the Dragon God's Heart, and help Na'er fuse with the Golden Dragon Origin at the same time.
That way, he would only need to activate the Herrscher transformation once.
Gu Yue nodded. For some reason, she felt much more at ease. "Alright. I'll listen to you."
So long as his bottom line was not crossed, Xiling was actually quite easy to get along with.
After everything had been laid bare, the living room fell silent again.
This silence did not last long before Xiling broke it. "It's getting late. Do you want me to send you back to the dormitory?"
As he spoke, a spatial passage leading directly to the Eastsea Academy girls' dormitory area appeared.
Gu Yue looked at the passage just a step away. Her black eyes flickered slightly as she softly replied, "Then... see you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow."
After that night, their relationship grew considerably closer. At the very least, Gu Yue no longer had that feeling, and their interactions became far more natural.
Gu Yue's attitude toward Tang Wulin remained exactly as it had been before—not close, not distant, with no real change. She could leave him for Xiling to deal with.
The day of the Class Promotion Tournament soon arrived. To avoid disrupting the other classes' studies, the matches were held after school.
A short, plump teacher walked up to Wu Zhangkong with a smile plastered across his face. "Teacher Wu, the students you teach are truly impressive. Mine, on the other hand, are hopeless. Those brats in Class Four have grown far too undisciplined."
"Today's the Class Promotion Tournament, so please go easy on us. We may not necessarily be able to advance to Class Three, but you have to help us keep Class Four's position."
Wu Zhangkong merely glanced at him, then ignored him completely, treating him like air.
Class Four's homeroom teacher was nearly furious enough to twist his nose crooked. This guy really was arrogant beyond belief.
Sure, you're strong, but how strong could the trash class you teach possibly be?
"Looks like Teacher Wu is very confident. Then we'll meet on the field." Leaving those words behind, Class Four's homeroom teacher headed toward his own class.
Wu Zhangkong's lips moved slightly. Standing beside him, Xiling heard the barely audible words: "Idiot."
Dean of Studies Long Hengxu stepped onto the competition platform, and the match quickly began.
Gu Yue, Xie Xie, and Tang Wulin stepped onto the platform. Their opponents were Galong, Lin Zunyuan, and Moss from Year One, Class Four.
Ten seconds later, Class Four's homeroom teacher stared wide-eyed at the three students lying below the platform. He wanted desperately to rush over and ask Long Hengxu, "Tell me, is this Class Five and not Class One?"
After the match ended, Xie Xie dragged Tang Wulin over to Xiling. "Brother Ling, we're going out for dinner. Want to come with us? My treat!"
He had been stifled to death at the academy these past few days. Now that there was no training tonight, he naturally wanted to go out and have some fun.
The moment he heard Xie Xie was treating, Xiling agreed without hesitation. It was free food—why turn it down?
"I'm going too!" Gu Yue appeared at Xiling's side at some point.
Xie Xie looked utterly disgusted. "Go away. We're not bringing girls." He had no small grudge against Gu Yue.
Over the past two months, their practical combat training had followed the same routine: after Xiling finished beating the three of them up, he made them spar among themselves, and Gu Yue always singled Xie Xie out for a beating.
The worst part was that he could not beat her. Fine, he could not beat her—but surely he could beat Tang Wulin, right?
Yet he really could not. Of the few of them, he was now the weakest. Every day, he was either getting beaten up or on his way to get beaten up.
Gu Yue gave a cold snort and looked toward Xiling, puffing out her cheeks slightly. "I'm going too." She looked rather pitiful and aggrieved.
Before Xiling could answer, Xie Xie spoke first. "Brother Ling and I are good brothers. We brothers are going out together, so why are you, a girl, trying to join in?"
Gu Yue nodded, then suddenly turned and shouted toward Wu Zhangkong, "Teacher Wu, I think our coordination isn't good enough. We should continue training."
Before Xie Xie could cover Gu Yue's mouth, a thud rang out as both of them received a flick to the forehead.
A sharp pain instantly shot through his forehead. Xie Xie sucked in a breath, clutching his brow and baring his teeth in agony, looking as though he wanted to cry but had no tears.
Gu Yue also frowned. A faint red mark appeared on her delicate forehead as she turned toward Xiling, who had struck them, with a wronged expression. "What are you doing?"
Xiling withdrew his hands and glanced at the two of them. "Enough. Stop fooling around. If you want to go, then go together."
Since Xiling had spoken, Xie Xie snorted and turned his head away. "Since Brother Ling said so, we'll reluctantly bring you along."
Tang Wulin stood to the side, watching the two bicker and fool around, and could not help smiling warmly.
Ever since entering Eastsea Academy, everyone had trained day after day and remained tense at all times. Moments of such relaxed banter were truly rare.
