Xiling took all the money from Guang Long and the others, placed it in Uncle Li's hands, then helped Uncle Li clean up the mess before leaving.
During that time, he contacted the Spirit Pagoda and asked them to send people to watch over the place for the next few days, lest Guang Long seek revenge. At the same time, he asked them to warn Guang Biao—Guang Long's older brother.
After returning home, Xiling first took a comfortable bath, then headed to the room where Leng Yulai was being held.
Sensing Xiling's arrival, Benares flapped its wings and landed on his shoulder, affectionately rubbing against his cheek.
Xiling smiled and raised a hand, gently stroking Benares on his shoulder. "You've worked hard these past two months. After a while, you won't need to stay here anymore."
Benares let out a clear dragon's roar in response.
Then, Xiling's gaze fell on Leng Yulai, who was sitting against the wall some distance away.
Two months of imprisonment, coupled with her body remaining seriously injured, had left Dark Phoenix, the evil Soul Master feared throughout the outside world, somewhat numb.
Those once gloomy and defiant eyes had lost some of their aggressive savagery, replaced by a greater measure of lifelessness.
Yet she had not completely lost her spirit.
The instant Xiling's gaze landed on her, her long eyelashes trembled almost imperceptibly. The surging hatred deep in her eyes was carefully concealed.
Xiling looked at Leng Yulai thoughtfully. "Logically speaking, the Holy Spirit Cult should have reacted to Leng Yulai's sudden disappearance."
"But after all this time, there's still been no movement. Could it be that they no longer want the Spacetime Divine Shuttle? That shouldn't be possible... Could it be that the Holy Spirit Cult never knew Leng Yulai's whereabouts?"
Life remained much the same as usual. Yesterday's victory of Class Five over Class Four had not caused much of a stir.
This afternoon, Class Five would be facing Class Three.
Class Three's homeroom teacher was Ye Yingrong. She was still quite young, several years younger than Wu Zhangkong. As a cold and aloof male idol, Wu Zhangkong was attractive not only to students in the senior division, but also to these young teachers.
Thus, Ye Yingrong intended to take this opportunity to leave a deep impression on Wu Zhangkong.
She walked up to Wu Zhangkong with a smile. "Hello, Teacher Wu. I'm Ye Yingrong, Class Three's homeroom teacher."
"Hello." Wu Zhangkong nodded to her, then let his gaze drift toward the competition platform.
Ye Yingrong did not mind. She beckoned to her class, and all the students of Class Three quickly ran over and lined up behind her.
"Friendship first, competition second. Gu Tianri, Gu Tianyue, Gu Tianming, be careful later. Understood?"
"Yes, Teacher Ye!" the three identical triplets answered in unison. Even their voices sounded like those of a single person.
Wu Zhangkong turned and glanced at them, his eyes lingering briefly on their faces. In his view, these three interested him more than Ye Yingrong did.
At that moment, Long Hengxu's voice came from the competition platform. "For the second promotion match, Class Five, are you still sending only three people?"
Wu Zhangkong nodded. Gu Yue, Xie Xie, and Tang Wulin entered the arena and walked onto the competition platform.
Ye Yingrong smiled faintly. "You three go as well." As soon as she spoke, the three brothers also climbed onto the platform.
The Gu brothers' martial souls were Skyscraping War Hawks, avian martial souls with extremely fast flight speeds. Since this type of martial soul relied on speed to win, all three brothers followed the agility-attack path.
"They can fly. What do we do?" Xie Xie turned to look at the other two.
Gu Yue gave Xie Xie a bland look, as though she were looking at an idiot. "Didn't Xiling and Teacher Wu teach us how to fight airborne opponents?"
"I think you want extra training again."
Xie Xie's expression stiffened at her words. He gave an awkward laugh. "Wasn't I just asking whether you two had forgotten?"
The match went very smoothly. In just a few dozen seconds, Gu Yue and the others had already secured victory.
"Class Five wins!" Long Hengxu's tone was filled with indescribable shock as he announced it.
He had not expected Class Five to win so overwhelmingly even without Xiling participating.
Seeing this, Ye Yingrong barely managed to calm herself. She looked at Wu Zhangkong and gave him a gentle smile. "Congratulations, Teacher Wu. From now on, you'll be Class Three."
Wu Zhangkong nodded. "You let us win. But this isn't our goal." After saying that, he glanced at the three people on the competition platform, then turned and headed toward the teachers' dormitory building.
After the match ended, Gu Yue, Tang Wulin, and Xie Xie went their separate ways.
Tang Wulin and Xie Xie were heading to the cafeteria to eat, while Gu Yue walked toward the school gate. She was going to find a certain reincarnated God King.
Xiling had not gone to watch their match today. Instead, he was waiting at the school gate for a possible uninvited guest.
Although he had given them a warning yesterday, he had still decided to come and check, just in case.
Gu Yue soon spotted Xiling at the school gate. She jogged over to him and smiled faintly. "By the way, why did you leave right after class without even saying hello? You didn't even come to watch the match."
Seeing who it was, Xiling paused in surprise before replying with a smile, "I came to deal with some trouble that might have resulted from yesterday."
"Trouble?" Before Gu Yue could ask further, more than a dozen burly men approached from the distance. One of them held up a photograph, and the person in it was unmistakably Xiling.
Several of the men at the front carried a stretcher, on which lay Guang Long, his aura weak.
Two others held up a banner that read, "A life for a life, a debt repaid with money—justice demands it."
The leader was over two meters tall and powerfully built. He too had a large bald head and a thick beard. His fierce appearance made him seem like an upgraded version of Guang Long.
His bare arms exposed terrifyingly toned muscles. His cold gaze swept constantly across the surroundings as he searched the passing crowd for the person in the photograph.
At the sight of this, Xiling pressed a hand to his forehead, his face full of helplessness. This was the first time he had used Leng Yaozhu's name to mobilize the Spirit Pagoda's power, yet they had still come—and with such great fanfare.
He could only question the Spirit Pagoda's efficiency.
The commotion at the school gate quickly drew the attention of the academy's teachers. "Who are you people? How dare you cause trouble at the academy entrance!"
With an angry shout, Long Hengxu rushed out with more than a dozen teachers.
"My name is Guang Biao. The one lying over there is my younger brother."
Upon hearing that name and sensing the aura Guang Biao radiated, Long Hengxu's pupils contracted. "You're Guang Biao, the captain of the Eastsea City Mecha Brigade!"
"I'm not the captain of any mecha brigade now. I'm only an older brother whose younger brother has been crippled. Hand over the person who crippled my brother." Guang Biao's face darkened as he spoke coldly.
Long Hengxu first looked at the person in the photograph behind them before turning back to Guang Biao. "Captain Guang Biao, I don't think you know who that child is, do you?"
Guang Biao narrowed his eyes. "I don't care who he is, what status he has, or what background he has. Today, your Eastsea Academy must hand him over!"
"I believe Director Long has heard the saying: cutting off someone's livelihood is no different from killing their parents. Crippling someone's cultivation cuts off their path to rebirth."
Those words immediately left Long Hengxu speechless. Just as he was about to say something else, a voice sounded from behind him. "Director Long, I did this. Leave it to me."
