Long Wushang was different. He did not seek excuses for killing, nor did he care about judgments of good and evil.
Twin martial souls, ultimate darkness, parents who were both Limit Douluo, and the Holy Spirit Cult at his back.
What right did Shrek have to judge him?
If this battle had not erupted, Mu En likely would not have even had a year left. Once today's battle ended, he would probably fall immediately.
"Child, this old man never asked you to join Shrek."
Mu En's tone lowered.
"Stop now and spare the students and civilians in the city. Whatever path you choose in the future, this old man will not choose it for you."
"The continent cannot endure endless retaliation. You kill a generation of Shrek disciples, and Shrek will hunt down the Holy Spirit Cult's young people in the future. Hatred piles upon hatred until, in the end, no one remembers how it began."
"You are still young. Do not take your parents' old debts into your own hands."
Long Xiaoyao had stood to the side without speaking. Only when he heard that final sentence did he frown.
Mu En still saw Wushang as a child influenced by his parents.
Yet today's plan—from mobilizing the cult members and arranging the soul tool positions to selecting the targets of attack—had all been led by Wushang. Even Xi Shui had merely filled in a few gaps.
His parents' old debts? He had it backward.
Now, it was these two old men who were following their son's lead.
Although helping evil soul masters was hardly something honorable, Long Xiaoyao did not care. Right now, he was simply an old father standing up for his son.
Long Wushang glanced down at Shrek City. The battle below had already reached a fever pitch, and both sides had suffered considerable casualties. Since Mu En wanted to waste words with him here, he would indulge him. After all, those who would ultimately die were members of the Holy Spirit Cult and Shrek Academy.
"You say the world cannot withstand revenge."
"But in my view, the soul master system itself is a cycle the world uses to maintain balance."
"Where there is light, darkness will arise. Where there are those who uphold order, there will also be those who break it. Orthodox soul masters and evil soul masters purge one another, sects rise and decline, wars end only to begin again."
"The world has never cultivated any heroes. Whenever it needs correction, it merely pushes someone forward."
Mu En frowned. "What exactly are you trying to say?"
Long Wushang did not answer directly. There were some things that, even if he said them, Mu En would only take as madness.
The will of the world in this era had chosen Huo Yuhao.
Unfortunately, that child of destiny had ultimately failed to escape the God King's grasp. He had been trained into obedience, married a daughter of the Tang Family, entered the Tang Family, and in the future would probably even have to report his wedding night to his father-in-law.
Ten thousand years later, the world placed its bet on another prodigy who awakened the Hades Sword.
Yet the result was still not much better.
No matter how strong a chess piece was, one first had to see who was moving it.
The will of the world had placed bet after bet and lost every time. Its judgment was truly awful.
Thinking of that, Long Wushang almost laughed.
"What is interesting is that the person chosen by the world may not truly be able to save it."
"Perhaps, in the end, he will still be led around by someone else. Tell him whom to bite, and he will bite them."
Mu En did not understand the latter half, but he heard the contempt for someone within it.
Just as he was about to press further, Long Wushang had already turned toward Long Xiaoyao. He had said what needed saying. It was time to go down and meet that child of the plane and the God King's daughter.
Father and son exchanged no words. Long Xiaoyao stepped forward, blocking Mu En's line of sight toward his son.
"Mu En, have you said enough?"
As he spoke, the dark clouds shrouding Shrek City retreated to both sides.
The massive dragon body appeared fully in the sky. Boundless darkness weighed down half the heavens. Long Xiaoyao stood atop the dragon's head as nine soul rings rose behind him in succession.
The Light Sacred Dragon behind Mu En raised its head.
Golden light descended upon Shrek City. He had drawn all the life force of the Golden Ancient Tree into his body, and his aged body straightened once more. His white hair billowed behind his shoulders.
He had tried to persuade them, but failed. He had also done everything possible to buy time. Reinforcements should arrive soon.
Then what remained could only be resolved by the rules of soul masters.
"Xiaoyao, are you truly determined to persist in your mistakes?"
Long Xiaoyao raised his right hand, and the Dark Sacred Dragon spread its wings.
"Whatever Wushang wants to do, whatever Xi Shui wants to do, I, as their father and husband, will support them without condition. You are not qualified to lecture them!"
The Light Sacred Dragon and Dark Sacred Dragon faced each other across the air.
Below, Xuan Zi drove back the troublesome Bone Flute Douluo with a palm strike and looked up into the sky. He had wanted to rush to the outer court to save people, but the two auras overhead pressed down so heavily that he could barely lift his head.
A clash between Limit Douluo, and between the former Light and Dark Sacred Dragons at that—even he had no right to interfere casually.
Long Wushang withdrew with Tang Ya behind the Dark Sacred Dragon. The Original Sin Demon Puppet gathered its seven authorities and guarded the two as they headed toward Shrek Academy.
With Long Wushang and Tang Ya's departure, the clash between the two former old friends and past nemeses, the Light and Dark Sacred Dragons, officially began.
Mu En vanished from where he stood. There was no probing, no restraint.
The light and dark dragons surged forward at the same time. The two elders who had known one another for over two hundred years finally pushed their martial souls to the limit.
Light and darkness collided head-on in the sky.
The two Sacred Dragons occupied half the heavens. Every collision of their dragon wings shattered vast swathes of cloud.
The aftershocks swept past the skies and fell into the city, making the earth quake.
Ordinary people could not tell the difference in strength between Limit Douluo.
They only saw Mu En appear. They only saw the Light Sacred Dragon rush into the clouds and battle that black giant dragon.
Cheers quickly erupted throughout Shrek City.
"It's one of the academy's powerhouses!"
"That's the Dragon God Douluo! The Dragon God Douluo has made his move! We're saved!"
"Dragon God Douluo, destroy these evil soul masters!"
"Protect Shrek!"
An outer court student climbed onto a half-collapsed wall and raised the longsword in his hand as he shouted.
Several young soul masters who had been fleeing for their lives moments ago were infected by his fervor and shouted along with him.
The cries spread from the outer court into the city. Many civilians hiding inside buildings poked their heads out, and the previously chaotic crowds calmed somewhat.
Dragon God Douluo.
It was Shrek's most resounding and weighty name.
They believed that as long as Mu En remained, Shrek would not fall.
At least, that was what they had always believed.
But among the outer court and inner court teachers with higher cultivation, no one could smile.
They stared at the Dark Sacred Dragon in the clouds. Some recognized those nine soul rings, while others recalled a name that had circulated across the continent for many years.
One of the Light and Dark Sacred Dragons.
The Dragon Emperor Douluo, Long Xiaoyao.
A Limit Douluo from Mu En's era, one whose name stood alongside Mu En's.
"How could it be him..."
An inner court teacher spat out blood and stared dumbfoundedly at the two figures in the sky as he muttered.
Ordinary students saw only Mu En reclaiming the might of his prime, but they all understood that Elder Mu did not have much longer to live.
Forcing the Golden Ancient Tree's life force into motion now was equivalent to placing every remaining year of his life on the gambling table.
By contrast, Long Xiaoyao's vitality was still at its peak.
Their realms appeared not to differ much, but their conditions were worlds apart.
Yan Shaozhe also saw the battle in the sky. He knew his teacher was using his life to fight for a sliver of hope for the academy.
He wanted to break free of the Masked Douluo and rush to Mu En's aid, but his opponent refused to confront him head-on.
Gray-white mist continued to spread, tightly sealing off the paths to the outer court and the skies.
"Dean Yan, why are you looking at the sky?"
The Masked Douluo tossed aside the head in his hand, laughter emerging from behind his mask.
"You should worry about yourself first."
Yan Shaozhe blasted apart the gray mist with a palm strike, and phoenix flames swept through the air.
