Background / History
Lieyang transmigrated into the ninja world three years before his defection. Rather than receiving a conventional system or inherited bloodline, he gained the “authority to pursue miracles.” Through study and deduction, he concluded that this authority allowed him to unlock the Genetic Lock through a genuine life-or-death crisis; his ultimate objective is the legendary “Light of the Soul.” 1
Before leaving Konoha, Lieyang cultivated a public image as a reliable, sociable special jōnin. He maintained relationships with academy classmates, mission partners, police-force members, logistics ninja, merchants, and villagers. He also invested in small medicinal-herb, ninja-tool repair, cloth, and grain businesses, assisted ninja forced into retirement by injuries, and publicly advocated reconciliation between the Uchiha clan and Konoha. 7
Despite these ties, Lieyang believed remaining in Konoha would eventually lead to his death during the anticipated destruction of the Uchiha clan. He deliberately sabotaged an A-rank infiltration mission through a Shadow Clone, ensuring Takeno Sota and Ayakawa Yukina would abandon the original objective and pursue him as a defector. 1 2
Cornered by Sota’s Earth Release and Yukina’s Parasitic Destruction Bugs, Lieyang awakened the first-tier Gene Lock at the moment of near-death. He killed Sota and Yukina, sealed their corpses to prevent Konoha from recovering intelligence, and burned the battlefield to erase evidence. The same breakthrough triggered his Mangekyō Sharingan. 3 4
The Gene Lock’s backlash nearly killed him: his muscles tore, internal functions destabilized, and his cells deteriorated. His chakra and Yang Release vitality stabilized the damage, allowing him to survive the first backlash after a night of critical condition. 5 6
Rather than flee across the Land of Fire’s border, Lieyang chose to remain and use Konoha’s hunters as catalysts for further growth. Root subsequently received authority to investigate and act against him, while Danzō’s forces were ordered to retrieve his corpse and Sharingan. 6 7 9
Appearance
Lieyang is an Uchiha man with black hair and scarlet Sharingan eyes. Following his Mangekyō awakening, his pupils bear three long, wheat-grain-shaped markings arranged around each eye. 3 4 6
- Often wears a strip of cotton cloth as a blindfold while his Mangekyō adapts. 6 8
- Carries and fights with a short blade. 1 3
- Retains a calm expression even while badly wounded or blindfolded. 3 6 10
Personality
Before awakening the Gene Lock, Lieyang was cautious, patient, and methodical. He spent three years building strength, wealth, social ties, and possible avenues of escape before deciding that a controlled defection was his only viable path out of Konoha. 1 8
His first Gene Lock breakthrough fundamentally changed his outlook. He no longer treats danger as something to evade; he regards crises, pursuers, and battle as resources to be exploited for growth. He accepts death as the price of failure and refuses to retreat from the limits required to advance. 6 8
During combat, Lieyang is exceptionally detached and analytical. After the Gene Lock opened, fear, anxiety, and pain no longer interfered with his decisions; he focused only on confirming kills, assessing his body, erasing evidence, and planning his next move. 3 4
Abilities & Skills
First-tier Gene Lock
The first-tier Gene Lock breaks the biological restraints that normally prevent the body from using its full output. It elevates Lieyang’s physical and mental performance far beyond his former limits. 3 6
- Grants extreme strength, speed, reflexes, perception, and muscle output. 3 11
- Allows him to continue fighting through injuries that would normally incapacitate him, including a dislocated shoulder, chakra loss, and severe wounds. 3 4
- Enables near-perfect control of his body and chakra, allowing one-handed seals and simplified hand seals. 11
- Suppresses fear and disruptive emotions, producing extreme calm and resistance to pain and genjutsu. 4 11
- Carries severe backlash upon deactivation: cardiac strain, torn muscle fibers, damaged organs, cellular deterioration, convulsions, and risk of death. 4 6
- Cannot be inherited by Shadow Clones, which lack real flesh-and-blood genes. 4 11
Sharingan and Mangekyō Sharingan
Lieyang possessed the Three-Tomoe Sharingan before his defection and awakened a Mangekyō Sharingan after unlocking the Gene Lock. 1 4
- Uses the Three-Tomoe Sharingan to read enemy movements, assist genjutsu, and track combat details. 2 4
- His Mangekyō eyes are named Shenka (left) and Miro (right). Their specific techniques have not yet been revealed. 6
- His Mangekyō initially causes soreness and blurred vision, requiring several days of adaptation. 6
- He believes the Gene Lock may offer a future solution to Mangekyō blindness without Hashirama Cells or transplanted Mangekyō eyes, though this remains only an intuition. 4
Hyperintuition
Hyperintuition is a sensory faculty developed after the first-tier Gene Lock opened. It functions independently of vision and does not require hand seals or chakra emission. 8
- Detects hidden attackers, including opponents approaching underground. 9
- Maps nearby objects, distances, air currents, footsteps, breathing, and movement while Lieyang is blindfolded. 8
- Allows him to evade thrown kunai and obstacles without looking. 8 9
- Lets him perceive threats inside his own fog, negating the blindness imposed on opponents by Hidden Mist Technique. 10
- Its current effective range is limited, but Lieyang trains it continuously. 8
Ninjutsu and Chakra Control
After the Gene Lock breakthrough, Lieyang’s chakra control and understanding of ninjutsu improved enough to discard many conventional hand-seal requirements. 11
- Fire Release — Uses Fireball Jutsu and large-scale flames; he burned the battle site after killing Sota and Yukina. 1 2 4
- Water Release — Uses Hidden Mist Technique to cover several hundred meters and deny enemies sight. 10
- Earth Release — Uses Earth Rising Spears to kill or restrain opponents. 11
- Wind and Lightning Release — Possesses both natures following the first-tier Gene Lock breakthrough; specific techniques are not documented. 11
- Genjutsu — Used the Sharingan to trap Takeno Sota in an illusion during their pursuit. 2
- Can form seals with one hand and reduce techniques to their essential seals through exceptional chakra control. 11
Shadow Clone Techniques
Lieyang relies heavily on Shadow Clones for deception, reconnaissance, battlefield control, and logistics. 1 8 11
- His clones inherit his memories, combat experience, ninjutsu knowledge, and ways of thinking. 4 11
- Uses clones to manufacture evidence of his defection, manage travel and intelligence gathering, and clean battlefields. 1 4 8
- Uses the Shuriken Shadow Clone Technique, an A-rank technique that creates offensive shuriken duplicates from physical shuriken. 9 10
- Can use clones to deceive enemies into misidentifying the original body, including allowing a clone to bleed and suffer fatal injuries before it disperses. 11
- Clone dispelling transfers its memories, fatigue, pain, and mental exhaustion back to Lieyang. 2 8 11
- Clones cannot use Hyperintuition, extreme physical output, or the Gene Lock itself. 4 11
Taijutsu and Blade Combat
Lieyang’s close-quarters ability far exceeds Konoha’s former assessment of him as having “average” taijutsu. 9 10
- Defeated and killed elite special jōnin Takeno Sota and Ayakawa Yukina within a few breaths after opening the Gene Lock. 3 4
- Can identify the weakest points in an opponent’s movements and interrupt counterattacks with minimal motion. 11
- Uses self-inflicted dislocation to extend his blade’s reach when necessary. 3
- Removed dozens of Parasitic Destruction Bugs from his own body without cutting his skin or clothing, achieving precision within one millimeter. 4
- Root’s Flowing Moon Squad was annihilated so completely that later investigators assumed Lieyang must have received elite outside assistance. 12
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Short blade — His primary close-combat weapon; used to kill Takeno Sota, Ayakawa Yukina, and Root operatives. 1 3 4 11
- Kunai and shuriken — Used for direct combat and with Shuriken Shadow Clone Technique. 1 9 10
- Explosive tags — Used through a Shadow Clone deception to kill two Root ninja. 11
- Sealing scroll — Used by his Shadow Clone to seal Takeno Sota and Ayakawa Yukina’s corpses. 4
- Cotton blindfold — Worn while his Mangekyō adapts and during Hyperintuition training. 6 8
Relationships
- Takeno Sota — Former squad captain and elite special jōnin. Lieyang engineered his own pursuit, awakened the Gene Lock during their battle, and beheaded Sota. 1 2 3
- Ayakawa Yukina — Former squadmate who used Parasitic Destruction Bugs and Insect Clones against him. Lieyang killed her immediately after defeating Sota. 1 2 4
- Shadow Clones — Extensions of Lieyang that share his memories and knowledge. They assist with planning, recovery, intelligence, cleanup, and combat deception, while openly challenging his increasingly dangerous choices. 1 4 6 8 11
- Hiruzen Sarutobi — The Hokage initially insists that Lieyang’s defection and his teammates’ deaths require proof, but authorizes Root to investigate and bring him back if possible. 6 7
- Danzō — Root’s leader, who considers Lieyang the prime suspect and directs Root to retrieve his corpse and Sharingan. 6 7 9
Major Arcs
Defection from Konoha
Lieyang uses an A-rank infiltration mission to stage a convincing defection. His Shadow Clone creates a destructive distraction while Lieyang escapes, forcing Sota and Yukina to prioritize capturing him over completing their mission. 1 2
First-tier Gene Lock Awakening
Driven into a lethal trap, Lieyang breaks through the first Gene Lock stage, kills both of his former comrades, awakens the Mangekyō Sharingan, seals the bodies, and destroys the battlefield with Fire Release. 3 4
Recovery and Decision to Remain
Lieyang survives the catastrophic backlash through chakra and Yang Release vitality. After recovering, he abandons his original escape plan and chooses to remain in the Land of Fire to cultivate his power through combat against Konoha’s hunters. 5 6 8
Root Pursuit
Root receives authority to act against Lieyang and deploys squads based on outdated intelligence. Lieyang defeats the first group through blindfolded sensing, Hidden Mist Technique, Shadow Clone misdirection, Earth Release, and explosive tags. 7 9 10 11
Flowing Moon Squad Incident
A subsequent Root squad finds the Flowing Moon Squad completely annihilated. The battlefield’s Earth Release, explosive tags, high-speed taijutsu traces, and varied fatal injuries are so inconsistent with Lieyang’s old file that Root concludes he must have elite outside assistance. 12
