Background / History

Iruka begins teaching Class One, Year One as a newly appointed Academy teacher. On his first day, he introduces chakra extraction and is immediately confronted with Sen Senju’s uncontrolled chakra eruption, which exceeds Iruka’s own reserves as an adult chunin. Concerned that Sen could be injured, Iruka checks him for damage and orders him not to extract chakra without supervision. 4

Sen’s Senju name makes Iruka recognize the possible significance of his abnormal chakra reserves. However, Sen’s deliberate failures in shuriken practice lead Iruka to record him as a student with monstrous chakra but terrible control, taijutsu, and apparent combat value. 4 5

Over the following years, Iruka remains Sen’s homeroom teacher. Sen’s abnormal performances—including a perfect theory exam completed while he appeared to sleep, Gangzi’s fear-induced breakdown, and the use of a physical Wood Clone—gradually force Iruka to reassess the supposedly untalented student. 15 16 18 31 32

At graduation, Iruka serves as chief examiner alongside Mizuki. He ultimately recognizes Sen’s Wood Clone Technique as proof of his ability, awards him a Konoha forehead protector, and sees him graduate with full marks. 31 32 33

Personality
