History
Third Shinobi World War
The Hidden Leaf's forces on the Land of Fire border were under severe pressure from Hidden Rock during the Third Shinobi World War. A Hidden Leaf squad was wiped out, while surviving ninja were surrounded until Kamizuki Yu entered the battle and routed the enemy force 2.
Yu was brought before the frontline command, where Shikaku Nara temporarily assigned him to Minato Namikaze's direct squad after he demonstrated exceptional space-time ninjutsu and proposed severing Hidden Rock's supply line at Bird Slope Passage 3.
Yu subsequently eliminated Hidden Rock commander Earth Dragon, destroyed the Bird Slope Passage supply hub, and defeated Third Tsuchikage Ōnoki. Ōnoki ordered a full retreat, ending the Kikyo Mountain standoff and allowing the Hidden Leaf to claim an early victory 4 5 6 7.
Upon his return, Yu was named the Guardian Star of the Hidden Leaf, awarded a Special-Class Merit, ten million ryo, and three S-rank ninjutsu scrolls 7.
Nine-Tails Attack and Reconstruction
During Kushina Uzumaki's delivery, Obito Uchiha extracted and controlled the Nine-Tails, which began attacking the Hidden Leaf. The village's barriers, ANBU guards, and defending shinobi were mobilized as Minato and Hiruzen Sarutobi responded to the crisis 11 12.
Yu intervened to save Kushina, subdue the Nine-Tails with Adamantine Sealing Chains, and defeat Obito. Rather than resealing the beast into Kushina, he placed its main consciousness and power in an independent space while merging part of its chakra into Naruto Uzumaki 13 14.
The village began rebuilding after the attack. Minato became the Fourth Hokage, while Yu was appointed Chief Honorary Advisor in recognition of his role in saving the village 14 15.
Internal Reforms
Yu exposed Root's crimes, captured Danzo Shimura, and presented evidence of his assassinations, human experiments, political manipulation, and persecution of the Uchiha Clan. Danzo was stripped of his status and killed; Root was later disbanded 23 24 25.
The Uchiha Clan subsequently submitted a loyalty and reform proposal to the Hokage. With Yu's support, Minato accepted the proposal, opening a path for the clan's reintegration into village life 25.
Yu later captured Orochimaru during his attempted defection and publicly exposed his live human experiments through image crystals distributed across the village 37 38.
Hidden Cloud Incident
After receiving intelligence that Kumogakure intended to target the Hyuga Clan's Byakugan, the village increased security around the Hyuga compound while Yu prepared separate countermeasures 51.
A Kumogakure team attempted to abduct a high-potential Hyuga branch-family boy, but Yu intercepted the operatives, incapacitated them, and presented both the captives and evidence to the Kumogakure delegation. The delegation was compelled to issue an apology and accept heavy compensation terms before leaving the village 53.
Following Yu's direct intervention in Kumogakure, the Fourth Raikage accepted responsibility for the incident and concluded a non-aggression agreement with the Hidden Leaf, securing the village's northern frontier for decades 58.
Rise of Divine Hidden Village
Although the Uchiha Clan's initial reform program restored much of its confidence, its reliance on Yu's protection remained a source of uncertainty. Yu ultimately established the independent Divine Hidden Village as a power above the existing national system, offering the Uchiha Clan a permanent home and central role in its new order 69.
Fugaku Uchiha led roughly three hundred Uchiha Clan members to the newly created village, while the Hidden Leaf's leadership regarded the departure of the clan's elites as both a political loss and the emergence of a potential sixth great village 71 72.
The Hidden Leaf sent Shikaku Nara as an envoy to Divine Hidden Village's first peace and development conference. Yu defended the Uchiha departure as an escape from institutional suspicion and proposed an open multinational Chunin Exam jointly associated with the Hidden Leaf 72 73.
Shinobi Unification and Otsutsuki Conflict
The Hidden Leaf joined the Earth Shinobi Alliance after Yu revealed the Otsutsuki Clan's threat to the Five Great Nations. Under the alliance framework, the major villages retained autonomy while accepting unified command centered on Divine Hidden Village 105.
Minato initially urged caution over Yu's proposal to launch a preemptive expedition against the Otsutsuki homeworld, citing the shinobi world's incomplete recovery and lack of experience in space warfare. Nevertheless, he continued to support Yu's forces, including by providing specially marked kunai before the expedition 130 131.
Following the successful campaign against the Otsutsuki Clan, Yu returned to Konoha as a hero and delivered Otsutsuki technological records, star maps, and energy-ore samples to the Five Great Shinobi Villages. Minato assumed responsibility for implementing Yu's proposed Civilization Ascension Plan, beginning with an artificial-sun energy revolution 151.

Military
Divine Guard
The Divine Guard recruits candidates of at least jonin-level ability who demonstrate talent, temperament, loyalty, and teamwork. Its selection process includes survival trials and genjutsu-based examinations of applicants' deepest desires and fears 27.
Its first public exercise featured twenty members in formula-enhanced uniforms. The unit demonstrated both individual combat ability and coordinated team techniques before village leadership, clan heads, and foreign observers 27.
The unit's early core included Uchiha prodigies such as Itachi Uchiha and Shisui Uchiha, alongside Kakashi Hatake, Might Guy, Yakumo Kurama, and the new Ino-Shika-Cho generation 27. The later relocation of Fugaku-led Uchiha elites to Divine Hidden Village altered the village's original elite-force balance 71 72.
Defensive Capacity
- The village maintains ANBU, patrols, barriers, and sensory defenses around high-risk locations such as Kushina's delivery site and Nanga Shrine 10 11.
- The village's defenses were unable to prevent Obito's infiltration during the Nine-Tails Attack, but the crisis was stopped before the Nine-Tails could destroy the village 12 13.
- Yu's presence served as the Hidden Leaf's principal deterrent during his tenure as Chief Honorary Advisor; villagers and ninja viewed him as a stabilizing force against internal and external threats 15.
- The village's response to Kumogakure's attempted Hyuga abduction, followed by the resulting non-aggression agreement, substantially strengthened its northern security position 53 58.
- As a member of the Earth Shinobi Alliance, the Hidden Leaf now contributes to a broader unified defense system against extraterrestrial threats, supported by Otsutsuki-derived technology and interstellar strategic planning 105 151.
Relationships
