Background / History

Hinata was bullied by several children for her Byakugan before Chiye Jun intervened. He frightened the bullies away and helped her up, becoming the first person associated with safety and security in her eyes. She introduced herself shyly before fleeing in embarrassment. 3

After the rescue, she quietly watched Chiye Jun train from a distance and frequently thought about him before the Ninja Academy began. 5

After Chiye Jun enrolled at the Ninja Academy, Hinata approached him after class to thank him and invited him to eat with her. Their ramen outing established an early bond; she was especially happy that he remembered her name. 6

Following graduation, Hinata joined Kurenai Yuhi’s Team 8 alongside Kiba Inuzuka and Shino Aburame. When Kurenai was hospitalized after being injured protecting Hinata, Hinata was assigned to Team 7 to accompany Chiye Jun, Naruto, Sasuke, and Kakashi on missions. Although she initially expected to leave when Sakura returned, Hinata remained with Team 7 while Sakura joined Team 8. 23 36 37 69 70

During the Land of Waves mission, she developed from a hesitant scout into an active combatant. Chiye Jun trained her in the Gentle Fist specifically to help her grow stronger, and she later used it decisively against Kado’s men. 41 44 45

Hinata continued to develop during the Snow Country mission, where she and Chiye Jun coordinated their attacks to disable a Snow ninja’s chakra armor. 58 59

During the Chūnin Exams, she faced her cousin Neji Hyuga. His accusations that she was weak and inherently unable to change initially shook her resolve, but Chiye Jun, Naruto, Sasuke, and Kakashi encouraged her to fight. She ultimately defeated Neji, but her distress over severely injuring him and the pressure of being the Hyuga clan’s eldest daughter caused her to collapse. Chiye Jun revived her through CPR after Mystical Palm Technique proved ineffective. 98 99

Hiashi later attempted to arrange Hinata’s marriage to the Land of Fire daimyo’s son, leading to her confinement after the Chūnin Exams. Chiye Jun learned of the plan, resolved to protect her from the unwanted marriage, and secretly visited her using Flying Thunder God. Their relationship became increasingly open afterward. 102 103

By adulthood, Hinata remained close to Chiye Jun, learned to cook for him, helped care for abandoned puppies, and accompanied him in developing Sunset Village. Chiye Jun proposed to her at their home, and Hiashi later arranged for her to stay with Chiye Jun during renovations to the Hyuga residence. 152 179 227 238 302

During the Fourth Shinobi World War, Hinata served as both a combatant and leader within the Allied Shinobi Forces. After the war, she married Chiye Jun, and the two chose to remain in the shinobi world together. 438 441 478

Appearance

Hinata is described as a delicate-looking Hyuga girl with short blue-black or black hair, pale eyes, and a notably timid expression. She initially wears pale-purple clothing. 3 6

  • White Hyuga eyes and Byakugan markings when her dōjutsu is active. 31
  • Often blushes or faints when overwhelmed by Chiye Jun’s affection. 12 18 23
  • Receives and wears a sunflower hair clip from Chiye Jun. 12 107
  • Later wears a pink rabbit-themed outfit with a rabbit hat and tail, made for her by Chiye Jun. 45
  • Is visibly in the early stages of pregnancy during the Tenseigan crisis. 446 447

Personality

Hinata is gentle, shy, and easily flustered around Chiye Jun. She speaks quietly, often lowers her head in embarrassment, and initially struggles to express herself directly. 3 6 22

Despite disliking violence, she is compassionate and resolute when others are threatened. The poverty and suffering in the Land of Waves enrages her, prompting her to confront Kado’s lackeys before her teammates can act. 38 45

Her first kill deeply unsettles her; she trembles at the sight of the body and admits she has killed someone. Even so, she accepts training, seeks to contribute to her team, and grows more confident in the field. 41 45

Hinata’s fight with Neji reveals the emotional burden she carries as the Hyuga clan’s eldest daughter. She does not want to be judged solely by clan expectations and remains sympathetic toward Neji despite his cruelty toward her. 98 99

She becomes increasingly independent with age. Rather than accept being protected or sidelined, she trains with Neji, volunteers for dangerous medical work, and seeks enough strength not to hold Chiye Jun back. 367 408

Her kindness extends beyond people. She eagerly helps nurse two sick puppies back to health and displays pronounced patience and nurturing instincts. 152
