History

Jiang Qingyu transmigrated to the Douluo world eighteen years before the story. Before awakening, he received twin martial souls—the Flame Phoenix Sword and Ice Dragon King—from a system that disappeared afterward. His adoptive grandfather died seven years before Chapter 1, though Qingyu’s improved circumstances after awakening allowed the old man to spend his final years without hardship 1.

For five years, Guang Ling Douluo lived at Qingyu’s home after being drawn in by his cooking. Guang Ling eventually revealed his identity and brought Qingyu to Spirit Hall, where Qian Daoliu recognized his exceptional twin martial souls and appointed him Holy Son 1 2.

At the Icefire Yin-Yang Well, Qingyu identified and distributed immortal herbs suited to Guang Ling and Bibi Dong before consuming the Star Anise Ice Crystal Grass and Inferno Delicate Apricot himself. The process strengthened both martial souls, established his ice-fire foundation, and led to the Ice Dragon King and Fire Dragon King residing in his sea of consciousness 7 8 9.

After reaching Soul Sage, Qingyu absorbed the Crimson Flame Sacred Phoenix’s soul ring and attained ultimate fire. He later began successfully applying ice power through the Flame Phoenix Sword, creating an ice-fire fusion technique that became one of his principal advantages in battle 13 15 19.

During his travels to Heaven Dou City and the Star Dou Great Forest, Qingyu defeated Tang Hao, overwhelmed the veteran Soul Sage Yu Luomian, and completed a commission to kill the Purple-Winged Spider Emperor. He gave the external soul bone recovered from that hunt to Bibi Dong rather than keeping it for himself 25 29 31 36.

Following his formal succession as Spirit Hall’s Holy Son, Qingyu began cultivating his own network of allied forces. His plans included the Elephant Armor Sect, Holy Dragon Sect, and Jade-Scaled Serpent lineage; he later cured Dugu Bo’s poison and brought the Holy Dragon Sect under his influence 38 48 49.

Qingyu was formally crowned Holy Son before the major sects of the continent. During the ceremony, he openly accepted challenges without an age restriction and defeated Tuoba Xi of the Holy Dragon Sect, further establishing the prestige of his position 41 42.

He subsequently began developing alchemy into a pillar of his personal power base. After studying with Yang Wudi and the Breaking Clan, Qingyu refined the Mysterious Water Pill, established Pill Hall, and used increasingly sophisticated medicinal pills to strengthen Spirit Hall’s allies and recruit the Nine-Heart Begonia lineage 52 54 57 86.

Qingyu proposed the Soul Core Method to the Consecration Hall, providing Spirit Hall’s senior soul masters with a new method for compressing soul power and improving their reserves and recovery. Qian Daoliu successfully completed the initial compression step, while the elders agreed to keep the method confidential until it could be more fully developed 72.

After advancing to Soul Douluo, Qingyu traveled to Flame Valley and obtained a 160,000-year eighth soul ring and right-leg soul bone. His soul power rose to Level 85, and he gained a powerful mental shock skill as well as two phoenix-themed soul-bone abilities 80 83.

During this expedition, the Three-Eyed Golden Lion took human form and adopted the name Wang Qiu'er. Qingyu accepted her decision to accompany him to Spirit Hall, where she joined Bibi Dong and Ah Yin among his close companions 84 85.

Qingyu later defeated Chen Xin in a duel that tested both sword intent and soul power. Under pressure from Chen Xin’s Seven Kill Sword Intent, Qingyu awakened his own Flame Phoenix Sword Intent, Burned but Unextinguished, and earned Chen Xin’s acknowledgment after prevailing 95 96.

He then entered Slaughter City with Bibi Dong, Ah Yin, and Wang Qiu'er. After reaching eighty consecutive wins in the Hell Slaughter Arena, he investigated the Bloodfire Lotus within the blood pool and subdued its seventy-thousand-year Fiery Three-Headed Lizard guardian with his ice flame 98 103. His group subsequently secured the Bloodfire Lotus, completed one hundred victories, and entered Hell Road 104.

After returning, Qingyu used Ice-Fire Two Extremes · Grip of Ruins to crush Tang Hao, Yu Xiaogang, Flender, and Liu Erlong when they attacked him together. The confrontation also forced Tang Chen and Yu Yuanzhen to apologize under pressure from Spirit Hall’s seven consecrators 110.

The Destruction God King later bestowed a nine-part Divine Trial upon Qingyu, beginning with a requirement to reach the Titled Douluo realm. Qingyu fulfilled that requirement and received a hundred-thousand-year god-bestowed soul ring. He then planned to seek a million-year soul beast and travel to Sea God Island. To facilitate the journey, he obtained the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud from Emperor Xue Ye in exchange for a promise to protect the emperor’s reign 114 117 118.

At Sea God Island, Qingyu was chosen to inherit the Sea God’s Divine Position. Already possessing a million-year soul ring by the time of his island trials, he completed the first trial’s ascent under double pressure in three months. As he climbed, he absorbed Sea God’s Power and gradually blended Oceanic Divine Power with the Destruction Origin within his meridians 133 134.

Qingyu’s relationships with Bibi Dong and Ah Yin subsequently became part of his growing family. Bibi Dong gave birth to their daughter Jiang Liuyue, and Qingyu arranged for Ah Yin to use the Life Goddess’s Life Origin to restore Bibi Dong’s vitality after childbirth. He also took responsibility for the care of Jiang Lingtian 140 142 151 160.

As his Divine Trial continued, Qingyu formed Yin-Yang Twin Soul Cores and became central to Gu Yuena’s plans for the Soul Beast Race. He proposed helping the soul beasts return to the God Realm in exchange for their support with his plans there, but insisted that his unfinished trials and newborn children took priority over immediate action 148 151 153.

Gu Yuena came to Spirit Hall and proposed a union with Qingyu, arguing that their offspring could benefit the Soul Beast Race. He rejected her later attempt to turn having a child into a political bargain. She forcibly kissed him during the confrontation, but Di Tian’s arrival interrupted her. When Gu Yuena then tried to enlist the Ice and Fire Dragon Kings against Qingyu, they refused and reaffirmed their loyalty to him 153 160 162.

Personality

Jiang Qingyu is consistently calm, reserved, and difficult to approach. Even when confronted with powerful figures, unwanted attention, or Bibi Dong’s direct advances, he usually responds with controlled indifference rather than anger 3 18 22.

Despite his distant manner, he is considerate toward those he accepts. He selects immortal herbs for Guang Ling and Bibi Dong based on their martial souls, gifts Bibi Dong the Six-Winged Purple Light Wings, and uses his resources to solve Dugu Bo’s poison problem 7 31 48.

He is pragmatic in combat and cultivation. Qingyu deliberately develops unexpected ice-fire techniques, seeks difficult opponents to test himself, and uses alchemy, treasures, and political alliances to improve both his personal strength and his future power base 8 28 38.

Qingyu is also an inventive cultivator who is willing to derive new methods from incomplete knowledge. His Soul Core Method demonstrates both his understanding of cultivation theory and his willingness to share major advantages with Spirit Hall’s senior members, provided they proceed cautiously 72 73.

Though he appears detached, he is protective of Bibi Dong, Ah Yin, and Wang Qiu'er in battle. During their three-on-one spar, he limited the force of his new ice-fire technique and immediately caught all three after sending them from the platform 91 92.

His later plans for the God Realm show similar caution: despite the opportunities presented by his divine inheritances and an alliance with Gu Yuena, he declines to rush his trials or leave his newborn children behind.
