Background
Tongtian began as Yu Chen's Dharma Aspect, named after Yu Chen obtained the Extinction Sword and received recognition from Heaven and Earth. His authority developed around finality, decline, and the ending of all things. 506
When he first appeared independently, Tongtian described himself as cultivating alongside Yu Chen. He later clarified that he was Yu Chen's incarnation, though their relationship was not one of simple identity: Yu Chen once housed Tongtian's true spirit, while Tongtian had once attempted to seize Yu Chen's foundation. They share a Dao Fruit and are described as two sides of the same coin. 846 847 909
As his spirituality matured, Tongtian became increasingly capable of acting beyond Yu Chen's direct awareness. He can hide information from Yu Chen and seeks an existence no longer defined as Yu Chen's derivative. Yu Chen, rather than opposing this, hopes Tongtian can attain a broader future of his own. 920 967
Appearance
Tongtian usually appears as a young man with an austere and otherworldly bearing. His appearance contrasts with the severe, terminal nature of his Dao.
- Disheveled hair.
- A red mark between his brows.
- Fair, jade-like complexion.
- Purple Eight Trigrams immortal robe.
- Cold, proud aura that remains unchanged even while wielding the Five-Virtues-infused Jade Radiance Wish-Granting Scepter. 846
Personality
Tongtian is cold, proud, direct, and highly intolerant of obstruction. He answers threats with overwhelming force, whether by forcing a feudal ruler into submission, sealing Life Isle and Ancestor Isle, or pursuing Xuan Qing until his escape routes are exhausted. 847 851
His ruthlessness is tempered by a distinct sense of order. He assists Yu Chen in saving civilians used as fuel for a divine weapon, uses gifts from the Southern Sea Dragon Palace to bless its living beings, and is disturbed by the suffering inflicted upon children in the Divine Artifact Universe. 848 854 949
As a teacher, Tongtian is demanding rather than gentle. He drives his disciples through relentless examinations and tribulation training, but gives them methods, treasures, and opportunities to survive and advance. 948 987
Abilities & Skills
Way of the End
Tongtian governs the process by which things decline, reach their final state, and pass into conclusion. His power can sever the transformations by which an opponent renews, escapes, or restores themselves.
- Cuts apart Xuan Qing's incarnations and severs the latter's transformations, forcing him toward the Eastern Sea. 846
- Causes dead souls sustained by a slaughter-focused divine weapon to reach their proper end before they can attack him. 848
- Can target natal Dao qi, a taboo technique even among Dao Realm cultivators. 866
- His authority is especially effective against concepts of undeath, longevity, change, and miracles. 960
- His mana and Highest Purity qi can be heavily depleted in extended combat, even when his state of mind and Dao arts remain intact. 864
Sword Arts and Four Sword Formation
Tongtian's principal combat method is an evolving sword Dao supported by four sword artifacts. Their sword lights can combine, divide into innumerable transformations, and form large-scale killing formations.
- Fuses the four sword lights with the Jade Radiance Wish-Granting Scepter to create an azure treasured sword. 846
- Uses sword light to cut through void, primordial energy, Dao laws, and layered defensive transformations. 846
- Commands the four swords of Slaughter, Massacre, Trap, and Extinction in battle against Lu Gui. 881
- Can form layered sword formations based on Taiji, yin and yang, the Three Powers, Four Images, Five Elements, Six Harmonies, and other principles. 851
- His Execution Sword fully formed after executing Xuan Qing; its sword intent can sever methods and defenses with a single stroke. 870
Highest Purity Dao Qi
Tongtian wields Highest Purity Dao qi, a sharp and destructive derivative of Yu Chen's Dao qi.
- Purifies residual yin essence from Azure Ox while riding him. 851
- Drives the Myriad Immortals Formation and helps trapped disciples overcome tribulations to attain the Dao Realm. 987
- Assimilates the Eastern Sea over time, strengthening the Highest Purity Dao but creating pressure on the Four Seas' primordial-qi balance. 988
- Can suppress or cleanse chaotic information and physical mutation that attempt to alter his nature. 927
Heavenly Gang and Earthly Fiend Methods
As Yu Chen's Demon King Aspect, Tongtian is proficient in the Thirty-Six Heavenly Gang Methods and Seventy-Two Earthly Fiend Arts.
- Uses principles including Reversing Yin and Yang, Five Elements Grand Escape, and Six Jia Hidden Gates. 848
- Slips through a massive formation's gaps, separating its land, populace, and national fortune. 848
- Combines five-element primal energies with the land itself to strengthen his combat power. 850
Artifact Forging and Inter-Universal Travel
Tongtian can forge and refine divine artifacts, cross chaos between universes, and interfere with events in distant worlds through his connection to Yu Chen.
- Forges five eighth-grade divine artifacts and an array diagram before departing into chaos. 924
- Refines captured technological sand grains into a set of sixth-grade divine artifacts. 960
- Travels among dying universes and recognizes how destruction laws react to his essence. 959 962
- Leaves incarnations behind when travelling beyond a universe. 924

Story Role / Major Arcs
Central Plains Intervention
Tongtian emerges during the conflict with Xuan Qing, claiming the Jade Radiance Wish-Granting Scepter and demonstrating the power to sever transformation itself. He pursues Xuan Qing to the Eastern Sea, turns his escape routes into a trap, and later executes his Dao body. 846 865 866
He then asserts control over the Central Plains crisis by forcing a feudal ruler into submission, dismantling a citizen-sacrifice formation, and sealing Life Isle and Ancestor Isle to prevent further interference with the Five Directional Gods' principles. 847 848 851
War Against Lu Gui and the Heavenly Emperor
Tongtian battles Lu Gui through the fall of the Xia Dynasty, using the treasure banner, the four swords, and Heaven's sacrificial light to defeat him. 881
He subsequently joins the assault on the Heavenly Emperor. With aid from Earth Mother, Kun Yuan Daoist, Nüwa Sovereign, and the power of Penglai's ascended immortals, Tongtian's sword light cuts into the Heavenly Realm and eventually strikes the Heavenly Emperor's essence. 882 883
Divine Artifact Universe
Tongtian crosses into the Divine Artifact Universe, where he provokes its major powers to indirectly aid Yu Chen's reincarnated fragment. He later sends sword lights toward Yu Chen, though the realm's great powers intercept them. 896 907
After gaining spirituality, Tongtian forges divine artifacts, leaves an incarnation behind, and travels farther into chaos. His experiences in dying universes force him to confront the limits of being an incarnation and deepen his desire for independence. 920 924 959 967
Teacher of the Highest Purity Dao
At Penglai Island, Tongtian establishes himself as the central teacher of the Highest Purity Dao. His escalating examinations evolve into Book Mountain and Sea of Learning, testing his disciples' will, knowledge, and ability to face living manifestations of information. 948
He keeps the Myriad Immortals Formation active for a further thousand years, allowing disciples to cultivate and refine treasures while preparing the Highest Purity Dao for conflict with the Heavenly Emperor. 988
