Background / History

Jiang Bai spent his early years surviving as an independent cultivator. By his own account, people who saw Xue Ying often tried to sell him off; he killed several of them to survive. His experiences made him highly self-reliant and knowledgeable about soul beasts, cultivation, and the dangers faced by unaffiliated Soul Masters. 19

At twelve, Jiang Bai travels toward Shrek Academy with a recommendation letter obtained after saving an old nobleman. His immediate objective is to approach Huo Yuhao—the “child of destiny”—in order to obtain Electrolux and alter Douluo Continent's future. 1

After meeting Huo Yuhao, Tang Ya, and Bei Bei in the Star Dou Forest, Jiang Bai declines Tang Ya's invitation to join the Tang Sect and instead enters Shrek Academy. He begins supporting Huo Yuhao with cultivation advice and Snow Spirit Pills while deliberately building Huo Yuhao's gratitude toward him. 2 3 4

Personality

Jiang Bai is composed, observant, and guarded. He conceals the true quality of Xue Ying's Ultimate Ice, hides his soul rings within his body, and avoids attaching himself to a major faction despite Ning Tian's recruitment attempt. 3 8 9

He is pragmatic to the point of manipulation. He falsely attributes the Snow Spirit Pills to a self-created soul skill so that Huo Yuhao will accept them, and he considers using Huo Yuhao to cripple Dai Huabin. 3 20

Despite this ruthlessness, Jiang Bai consistently aids people he considers useful or worthy of investment. He teaches Huo Yuhao about unity of body and mind and will, assists Xiao Xiao with soul-ring choices and her suppressed soul bone, and protects Huo Yuhao from Xu Sanshi. 4 7 11 31
