Background / History

Jiang Bai spent his early years surviving as an independent cultivator. By his own account, people who saw Xue Ying often tried to sell him off; he killed several of them to survive. His experiences made him highly self-reliant and knowledgeable about soul beasts, cultivation, and the dangers faced by unaffiliated Soul Masters. 19

His childhood included extended survival in the Far North, where he maintained a concealed cave dwelling and crossed ice fields inhabited by Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts while still very young. He later returns to this former home to condense his third soul ring. 13 25 26

At twelve, Jiang Bai travels toward Shrek Academy with a recommendation letter obtained after saving an old nobleman. His immediate objective is to approach Huo Yuhao—the “child of destiny”—in order to obtain Electrolux and alter Douluo Continent's future. 1

After meeting Huo Yuhao, Tang Ya, and Bei Bei in the Star Dou Forest, Jiang Bai declines Tang Ya's invitation to join the Tang Sect and instead enters Shrek Academy. Personality

Jiang Bai is composed, observant, and guarded. He conceals the true quality of Xue Ying's Ultimate Ice, hides his soul rings within his body, and avoids attaching himself to a major faction despite Ning Tian's recruitment attempt. 3 8 9

He is pragmatic to the point of manipulation. He falsely attributes the Snow Spirit Pills to a self-created soul skill so that Huo Yuhao will accept them, and he considers using Huo Yuhao to cripple Dai Huabin. 3 20

Despite this ruthlessness, Jiang Bai consistently aids people he considers useful or worthy of investment. He teaches Huo Yuhao about unity of body and mind and will, assists Xiao Xiao with soul-ring choices and her suppressed soul bone, and protects Huo Yuhao from Xu Sanshi. 4 7 11 31

Jiang Bai is openly contemptuous of authority figures he considers incompetent or abusive, including Zhou Yi and Xuan Zi. He does not value victory for its own sake, preferring long-term growth and strategic positioning. 19 20 33

Although he is willing to help Tang Ya avenge the Tang Sect, Jiang Bai's idea of justice is notably severe. During the assault on the Ironblood Sect, he expands the agreed mission against the upper ranks into a systematic purge of people he personally judges guilty of blood debts. 85 86

After Evil Soul Masters corrupt Ma Xiaotao's martial soul into an Evil Fire Phoenix, Jiang Bai bargains with Mu En for resources and permission before agreeing to help. Using Xue Ying's Innocent Heart, he extracts and compresses Ma Xiaotao's Evil Fire, saving her life but leaving her unable to cultivate unless a future cure is found. 79

Jiang Bai then returns to the Far North for his fourth soul ring. After two months of cultivation, he reaches Rank 41, upgrades all four soul rings to Ten-Thousand-Year level, forms full-body Soul Bones, and gains Innocent Heart and Cold Heaven's Lament. 79 80

Body Sect Encounter and Ice God's Garden

While traveling through the Far North, Jiang Bai defeats the Body Sect genius Long Aotian and meets Body Sect master Du Busi. He trades the location of a Titan Snow Ape for an ancient map that may help locate the Icefire Yin Yang Well. 80 81

After leading Du Busi and Long Aotian to the Soul Beast, Jiang Bai finds and gives Du Busi a twenty-thousand-year Giant Spirit Snow Sheep head Soul Bone in exchange for future assistance. He then enters the Ice God's hidden garden, where he receives divine materials, God-Gifted Soul Rings, and a new direction for artificial-Soul-Ring research. 82 83

Search for the Icefire Yin Yang Well and Ironblood Sect Purge

Jiang Bai searches Sunset Forest for a year and a half without finding the Icefire Yin Yang Well, unaware that Tang San repeatedly moves the location and prepares dangerous trials around it. He eventually settles temporarily in Heaven Dou City to continue investigating. 84

After exposing an Ironblood Sect extortion attempt, Jiang Bai reunites with Tang Ya and Bei Bei. He joins Tang Ya's campaign to avenge the Tang Sect, then escalates the assault into a near-total massacre of Ironblood Sect members he considers evil or guilty of blood debts. 85 86

Tang Ya kills the sect's surviving leadership, while Zhang Lexuan eliminates its remaining disciples. Returning home, Jiang Bai finds that Xiao Ling has already killed intruders sent against her. He copies a recovered Tang Sect herbal text before resuming his search. 87

Sunset Forest Expedition and Du Busi's Breakthrough

Jiang Bai encounters Du Busi and Long Aotian in Sunset Forest and reveals that he seeks the Icefire Yin Yang Well. Du Busi joins the search. Although they find immortal herbs in a region of toxic mist, they do not locate the well itself; Jiang Bai suspects divine interference. He receives two herbs as his share. 88 89

Du Busi subsequently reaches Rank 99 and gives Jiang Bai his protection. After accompanying Jiang Bai back to Heaven Dou City, he recognizes Xiao Ling's Body Martial Soul and later takes her as his disciple. In Mingdu, Jiang Bai meets Ye Guyi and warns her about the Evil Soul Masters concealed behind the city's black markets. Meng Hongchen then introduces him to Jing Hongchen, who offers him a place at the Sun Moon Imperial Soul Engineer Academy. 99 100 101

Jiang Bai commissions Xuan Ziwen to develop a motorcycle and a Battle Armor armguard.
