Golden lasers burst from Li Nian's forehead. He was furious. Even if Otto's mechanical tentacles had affected his mind, that was no excuse for putting an entire trainload of people in danger!
"Argh!" Doctor Otto screamed as his mechanical tentacles were cleanly severed by the lasers.
"Still want to play?" Li Nian's eyes flickered red, though he did not notice it himself. If the Multiverse Squad had seen it, they would have cried out that it looked exactly like Ultron's gaze.
"Does it feel good to toy with other people's lives?" Li Nian knocked Doctor Otto down with a punch. Staring fixedly at the old man lying on the train roof, Li Nian cracked his knuckles and strode toward him.
"Do you think you're better than everyone else? Or that sacrificing all of New York for your worthless experiment would be no great loss?" Li Nian punched Otto again and again, his mouth still running without pause.
"Other people could hammer out your sun bit by bit in a cave. You don't seriously think you're the smartest scientist in the world, do you?!"
"Osborn was right to pull his funding. You're simply not capable of completing the experiment!"
"Your wife died because of your stubbornness and narrow-mindedness too. If you ask me... she deserved to die!"
At Li Nian's final words, Doctor Otto, who had silently endured the beating until then, finally exploded. "Bastard! How dare you make a joke out of my wife!"
Doctor Otto had loved his wife more than anyone in his life. She had always supported his experiments in silence, and for him, she had even been willing to give up having children. Doctor Otto would never allow anyone to slander his wife!
No one knew where Doctor Otto found the strength, but a tentacle suddenly shot out and seized Li Nian's head from behind, lifting him high into the air.
"You deserve to die!" Doctor Otto roared, smashing Li Nian back and forth against the train roof. His Vibranium body left dent after dent in the train car. Still not satisfied, Otto hurled Li Nian beneath the train for an intimate encounter with the tracks.
Clack! Clack!
The shower of sparks proved that Li Nian's body could at least withstand it.
Doctor Otto did not want to keep fighting. He saw Spider-Man rushing over, so he immediately abandoned Li Nian, casually crushed the brakes, and fled with his three intact tentacles.
Peter hurried onto the train, only to catch sight of Otto's retreating back. Just as he was about to give chase, the train suddenly jolted, nearly flinging him off.
"Ah!!!"
"Help!"
The passengers inside the train screamed nonstop. Peter looked ahead and saw that the tracks at the far end had not yet been repaired. If this continued, everyone on the train would die!
In a panic, Peter climbed onto the front of the train and shouted inside.
"Hold on to the handrails!"
The passengers immediately followed Spider-Man's instructions. At that moment, Spider-Man was the only person they could rely on. Peter cautiously lowered his legs onto the tracks, intending to use his own strength to stop the train.
"Argh!" Peter clutched his leg in agony. That method was clearly impossible—his leg had nearly snapped.
"What should I do..." Peter was completely panicked. His mind had gone blank. There was no way he could stop the train with his own strength alone.
At that moment,
Li Nian burst out from beneath the train. Looking at the train about to plunge off the tracks, he shouted, "Use your webbing to hold the train!"
"Webbing?" As though he had found his anchor, Peter looked at the broken bridge ahead, took a deep breath, and fired webs in every direction. He braced himself against the front of the train, trying to force it to stop.
Li Nian flew to the rear of the train, smashed through the rear window with one blow, and gripped the train tightly with both hands. Without hesitation, he planted his legs onto the tracks. A body made of Vibranium had only one word to describe it—tough!
The two of them worked from front and back, one bracing desperately at the front, the other pulling firmly from behind.
"There's no time!"
The people inside cried out. Seeing the train about to fly off the tracks, they closed their eyes in despair and waited for death.
"Damn it!" Li Nian's expression twisted savagely. Perhaps he had wasted too much time fighting Otto on the roof, because the train did not come to a thrilling halt as it had in the original story. Instead, it kept moving forward!
"Ah!!!"
Peter felt as though both his arms were about to be torn off. His face reddened as he roared, squeezing out the last of his strength.
Screech!
The train finally stopped, but the front car had completely left the tracks. The entire carriage, along with Peter, plunged downward.
Just as Peter was about to be crushed into pulp, Li Nian used every ounce of his strength to grab the rear of the carriage, suspending it in midair.
The people inside felt the train stop and realized they were still alive and unharmed. They could not help crying out in joy. Some even burst into tears, clutching their heads as they sobbed.
Li Nian held tight to the carriage and pulled it back onto the tracks. With the passengers' help, Peter also made it out unharmed.
"Thank you for saving us!" A fat middle-aged man wiped tears from the corners of his eyes and spoke gratefully to Li Nian. One passenger after another fixed their eyes on Li Nian and Peter. They did not say a word, yet their gazes spoke louder than a thousand words.
Li Nian looked at the sincere eyes of the crowd and stood there in a daze.
"They're... thanking me?" Li Nian finally understood why Stark had changed from such a bastard into someone willing to sacrifice his life.
It was for these innocent people!
Without saying a word, Li Nian carried the exhausted Peter away from the scene.
Harry sat anxiously on the sofa, taking a light sip of red wine. A dagger had long been placed on the table, waiting only for Spider-Man to arrive.
"Spider-Man!" Harry's eyes contained endless rage and sorrow. His father—his gentle, refined father—had been killed by Spider-Man's own hand. He still remembered the two wounds on Norman Osborn's body.
"That hypocrite!" Harry cursed Spider-Man's false righteousness, having cast Norman's sins completely out of his mind from beginning to end. No matter how terrible Norman had been, he was still Harry's father.
Whoosh—
A gust of wind blew into the room.
Harry turned his head and saw Doctor Otto standing on the balcony, looking battered and wretched, his face dark and vicious.
"Where's Spider-Man?" Harry asked. He felt that something was not quite right with Otto.
"Spider-Man..." Otto slowly walked up to Harry. Suddenly, a tentacle clamped tightly around Harry's throat. "You never told me there was a monster following Spider-Man around!"
"What..." Harry's face turned red as he felt himself about to suffocate.
"Hmph!" Otto snorted coldly and flung Harry away, sending him crashing heavily onto the table.
"The deal is off! I'm taking my things!" Without even looking at Harry, Otto walked straight to the safe, shattered it with a single strike of his mechanical tentacle, and took what was inside.
Only the unconscious Harry remained in the vast room, covered in wounds as he lay on the cold floor...
