First Appearance Chapter 1

Background

Oren is a transmigrator who was raised by his adoptive grandmother, Grandma Omi. After her death, he lived alone and relied on supplies provided by his system to survive. Albus Dumbledore discovered both Oren's circumstances and his alarming familiarity with Dark magic, including a soul-infused wooden puppet, and brought him to Hogwarts early. 1

Dumbledore later confirmed that Oren was an heir of the Black family, granting him a Black-family ring and vault key. Oren accepts the heritage pragmatically, reasoning that any purported Black-family madness would not affect the transmigrated soul occupying his body. 4

Although the Sorting Hat considered him suited to Slytherin because of his ambition and shrewdness, Oren insisted on Gryffindor and was sorted there. 7

Appearance

Oren first arrives at Hogwarts as a small, long-haired ten-year-old. His appearance is frequently mistaken for that of a girl, especially when his hair is styled or when he is transformed by potion effects. 1 2 20 126

  • Keeps long hair, eventually nearly waist-length; normally ties it up rather than cutting it. 1 20 84
  • Often wears black robes and later Gryffindor uniform. 2 62
  • Has been styled with a Nezha-style double-bun hairstyle by Cho Chang and Hermione. 20
  • Can be transformed into a female form, known as “Miss Black,” through his own experimental potion. 126

Personality

Oren is exceptionally self-assured, irreverent, and difficult to intimidate. He treats school rules, authority, and conventional magical ethics as obstacles to work around, whether he is raiding restricted materials, modifying dangerous curses, or forcing professors into duels. 3 5 76 97

His confidence is matched by a sharp tongue and a habit of needling friends, enemies, and adults alike. He regularly insults Snape, barters aggressively with classmates, and reframes coercion as business or recruitment. 5 16 21 92

Despite this, Oren is protective of his Gryffindor friends and frequently helps them with practical problems: preparing Harry for Potions and Quidditch, assisting Hermione's Animagus attempt, and guiding the group through dangerous situations. 12 15 67 124 He expresses care more readily through gifts, solutions, and intervention than through direct sentiment.

Abilities & Skills

Magical Aptitude

Oren displays unusual magical talent from the beginning of the story, including wandless and nonverbal casting. He rapidly outperforms most students in practical Charms and Transfiguration, though his lack of interest in ordinary classroom routine often contrasts with Hermione's discipline. 3 9 27

  • Turned a match into a silver needle with gold patterns for five Gryffindor points. 9
  • Casts spells without a wand or spoken incantation when he chooses. 3 27
  • Learned the Undetectable Extension Charm from Dumbledore and applies it to pockets and storage. 5
  • Creates protective shields capable of withstanding Draco Malfoy's repeated attacks. 48

Dark Magic and Fiendfyre

Oren has extensive early knowledge of Dark magic and treats dangerous spells as subjects for experimentation rather than taboos. Dumbledore repeatedly monitors or redirects this interest due to the risks involved. 1 3 36

  • Controls blue Fiendfyre and uses it for combat, heating, hunting Acromantulas, and enchanting a blade. 13 20 40
  • Developed and used Avada Lightning Chain, a branching Killing Curse concept he had pursued since arriving at Hogwarts. 3 76
  • Uses the Killing Curse against Acromantulas and advises Dumbledore on spells capable of killing Dementors. 62 76
  • Casts a silver panda Patronus to repel Dementors during the Quidditch-pitch attack. 67
  • Fiendfyre is difficult and dangerous enough that Dumbledore objects to its casual use at Hogwarts. 20 124

Physical Strength and Close-Quarters Combat

Oren possesses abnormal physical strength and routinely supplements spellcasting with punches, grapples, and improvised weapons.

  • Broke free from magically created chains and punched Snape during an early duel. 5
  • Can tear up flooring, break bows by drawing them too hard, and overpower students with one hand. 13 16 27
  • Defeated Snape in a later duel by advancing through spell pressure and throwing him over his shoulder. 60
  • Served as Gryffindor's emergency Quidditch goalkeeper, relying on raw strength to secure a win before McGonagall banned him from future matches. 156
  • His strength alone is ineffective against magically resistant creatures; he had to add magic to his arrows while hunting Acromantulas. 13

Alchemy, Soul Magic, and Healing

Alchemy is Oren's primary field of interest. His work ranges from novelty items and magical constructs to soul manipulation, werewolf treatment, healing, and resurrection. 10 15 63 145

  • Created a soul container under Dumbledore's supervision and collected Acromantula souls for experimentation. 10 13
  • Produces alchemical brooches, teapots, magical teddy bears, paintings, and metal constructs. 11 15 47 84
  • Successfully recreated a toad using its soul and physical materials. 126
  • Developed a cure for werewolfism and later worked with Dumbledore to improve Wolfsbane Potion. 63 65
  • Helped resurrect a little girl believed to be Ariana Dumbledore through work involving an Obscurus. 145
  • Removed Harry Potter's scar-related curse and cured Daphne and Astoria Greengrass of their hereditary curses. 165

Spatial Magic and Magical Engineering

Oren applies alchemy and spatial magic to transportation, storage, surveillance, and infrastructure.

  • Operates a suitcase-based “little world,” expanding its boundary with Acromantula souls. 58
  • Demonstrated portal magic to Dumbledore and later uses portals for travel, surveillance, and combat experiments. 67 93 123
  • Received the system item known as the Heart of the World, described as an antique jade belt. 65
  • Created a memory-viewing helmet called Mew, though viewing Dumbledore's memories disturbed him enough to Obliviate himself. 97
  • Built metal spider “enforcers” that can compact into a bracelet. 84
  • Created a gate designed to detect the Dark Mark in Diagon Alley. 148

Strategy and Commerce

Oren is a manipulative planner with a strong profit motive. He recruits helpers, negotiates deals, and turns magical projects into commercial or political leverage.

  • Sold alchemical snow globes and brooches through the Weasley twins and Draco Malfoy. 16 18
  • Commissioned metal bows from Fred and George, traded them to centaurs for potion materials, then sold those materials to Snape for 5,000 Galleons. 21
  • Manipulated a Dementor attack to provide Percy Weasley an opportunity to impress Minister Fudge. 71
  • Proposed a “New Order of the Phoenix” strategy that publicly supported Fudge while plotting against him. 114
  • Directed defensive operations during the Diagon Alley skirmish and later the war against Voldemort. 141 172

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Cedar wand — Twelve inches, phoenix-feather core; chosen after Ollivander could not find a conventional match for Oren. 2

  • Mige — A large tawny owl given to Oren by Hagrid. 6
