Background / History

Hun Tiandi is the descendant of the Soul Emperor and the leader of the Soul Clan. Though he acknowledges his ancestor, he believes he can reach—or surpass—the Soul Emperor's heights. His ultimate ambition is to become a true Dou Di rather than merely claim the title of Emperor. He is aware that the path to Dou Di has been broken, yet intends to unite the clans once he attains that realm. 71 72

During his first encounters with Zhao Li, Hun Tiandi identifies the abnormality in Zhao Li's soul and suspects him to be the remnant soul of an ancient powerhouse with knowledge of the Dou Di path. The Primordial Spirit Emperor ultimately traps Hun Tiandi and his followers in the Ethereal Illusory Realm, but Hun Tiandi breaks free and strikes Zhao Li unconscious. 72 73

Roughly sixty years later, Hun Tiandi confronts the genuine Zhao Li at the Star Realm. Shocked by Zhao Li's growth, he recognizes him as an equal and battles him repeatedly. Zhao Li's Five-Colored Divine Light forces Hun Tiandi to retreat and leaves Soul Hall members suppressed; Hun Tiandi responds by ranking Zhao Li as a greater threat than Gu Yuan and ordering Soul Hall to withdraw into an intelligence-gathering role. 294 295 299 301

Having found a new direction through his clashes with Zhao Li, Hun Tiandi turns on his longtime collaborator, Nihility Devouring Flame. He refines the flame for its power and treats both it and the Soul Clan as tools for his pursuit of becoming Emperor. 324 325

Hun Tiandi personally leads the Soul Clan's attack on the Shi Clan, seals the realm to prevent aid from arriving, annihilates the clan, and claims its Ninth Grade Golden Pill and Tou She Ancient God Jade. He later studies alchemy, assists Hun Xuzi in refining a Ninth Grade Golden Pill, and gains further insight into cultivation. 330 331 333

After attempting to destroy the Spirit Clan and seize its Ancient God Jade, Hun Tiandi is confronted by Zhao Li, who has reached the Dou Di realm. Hun Tiandi's forbidden technique is shattered, and Zhao Li seals him beneath the Five-Finger Mountain rather than killing him. 437 439

While imprisoned, Hun Tiandi gradually learns that realms exist beyond Dou Di and begins reconsidering his narrow ambition.
