Ch. 161"That"
Key plot points
- A mass of Intangible Wraiths and Evil Earth Wraiths attacks the police station. Qin Ran suspects their controllers are hiding underground and confirms it when two Wanderers’ Society members erupt through the steps.
- The attackers boast that ordinary rules no longer matter because “that thing” is nearly here and everything will be reshuffled. Before Qin Ran can learn more, the robed man orders the wraiths to kill him.
- Qin Ran survives by using Holy Water VIII, which intimidates low-level ghosts and destroys any negative-energy creature that touches it. He kills the robed attacker with a lightning-charged punch and knocks the other unconscious to question later.
- Switching to his Evil Spirit Hunter title, Qin Ran charges through the remaining wraiths, rapidly reducing them to ash and hoping to collect Soul Crystals for Points and Skill Points.
- From a second-floor window, Shiqi witnesses the fight. He reports that Qin Ran and the others are safe, then recounts the events to the old woman over the phone.
Character developments and interactions
- Qin Ran remains calm under threat, reasons out where the Society is hiding, and prioritizes capturing one attacker for information. His choice to confront the danger also reflects his appetite for rewards rather than safety.
- The Wanderers’ Society members are arrogant and appear mentally abnormal. Their remarks hint at a major coming event, though Qin Ran gets no further explanation during the fight.
- Shiqi shifts from anxious observer to inspired admirer, recognizing Qin Ran as a Holy Knight. Qin Ran’s actions resonate with Shiqi’s own ideals of protecting the weak and pursuing justice; Shiqi even begins addressing him respectfully.
- Shiqi and the old woman stay in contact during the attack. She anxiously asks for updates, and Shiqi reassures her before describing what he has witnessed.
