Eriri first met Lin Xiao as a child when her mother, Sayuri Sawamura, brought her to the orphanage where he lived. Fascinated by his intelligence and melancholy—he was solving advanced calculus in the sand while the other children played—she became attached to him and regarded him as both the smartest person she knew and the person she liked most. 20

Their childhood friendship ended abruptly when eight-year-old Lin announced that an approaching calamity required him to train in the mountains and that he would “stand alone through eternity.” He ran away, leaving Eriri crying and resentful over his disappearance for the next ten years. 20

Eriri transfers into Sōbu High School's Class 2-F and is seated beside Lin.
