Background and History

Early life

Kaido was already undefeated in the Vodka Kingdom at age ten. Fearing his strength, the kingdom sold him to the World Government. His later life paralleled Douglas Bullet’s: both became feared young fighters before being shaped by betrayal and exploitation. 283

Before reaching his peak, Kaido fought Whitebeard, Shiki, and other major pirates while relying on Charlotte Linlin’s protection. Linlin also gave him the Mythical Zoan Azure Dragon Fruit that became central to his rise. 280 295

Rule over Wano

As captain of the Beast Pirates, Kaido ruled Wano through force and fear. His subordinates regarded even the destruction of the Flower Capital as acceptable if it relieved his anger. 233

When the Marines captured Linlin, Kaido drunkenly transformed into an Azure Dragon and burned the Flower Capital while grieving for her. King used the turmoil to kill Kurozumi Orochi, eliminate Wano’s competing authority, and bring the Orochi Oniwabanshu under Kaido’s command. 232 233

After Linlin’s execution, Kaido deployed the Beast Pirates—more than 50,000 pirates, including the All-Stars and Flying Six—to Totto Land. He declared that he would protect Linlin’s territory and repay the debt he owed her. 236

The Beast Pirates clashed with the Charlotte Family under Katakuri, then temporarily allied with them when Whitebeard and the Demon God Pirates became the greater threat. 261
