Background / History

Yun Ying arrives at East Sea Academy’s enrollment day carrying her spear and immediately challenges Tang Wulin after learning that he practices close combat. Her unorthodox opening technique, Moon Severer, and relentless spear assault force Tang Wulin onto the defensive before Wu Changkong stops the unauthorized spar 1.

During the entrance test, she completely suppresses Xie Xie through basic blocks, intercepts, positioning, and spear control rather than relying on soul skills. She subsequently recruits Tang Wulin and Xie Xie into a three-person team, declaring herself the main attacker responsible for mid-to-close-range control and decisive finishing strikes 2 3.

The trio quickly wins a group-stage match in under forty seconds. Yun Ying disregards Xie Xie’s preferred formation, personally disrupts the opposing team, directs Tang Wulin toward the enemy support, and repeatedly criticizes Xie Xie’s timing and rigid positioning 5.

After clashing with Gu Yue following an accidental collision, Yun Ying unleashes three Citybreaker strikes to detonate Gu Yue’s fireball. Gu Yue emerges unharmed, closes the distance instantly, and sends Yun Ying into a trash can, forcing Yun Ying to acknowledge an opponent far beyond her expectations 10 11.

At the tournament, Yun Ying reunites with Dongfang Yao, an old friend who had arrived through a teleportation array. She is especially excited to learn that Zhao Huaizhen is nearby, as she considers him someone she can confide in 12.

Following the entrance tests, Yun Ying becomes part of Class Five alongside Tang Wulin, Xie Xie, Gu Yue, and Dongfang Yao. Although initially resentful of Gu Yue’s apparent leniency toward Tang Wulin, she later makes efforts to befriend Gu Yue and brings her food when she is upset 15 19 20 22.

When Shadow targets Xie Xie, Yun Ying repeatedly intervenes despite being outmatched. She is injured while trying to protect him, later teams up with Gu Yue to rescue him from Shadow’s dorm-room attack, and is again defeated when Shadow uses Xie Xie as a shield 25 26.

Yun Ying has brown hair, usually worn in a high ponytail, and favors striking combat attire over conventional styles.

She is also curious about techniques and new experiences. After witnessing Tang Wulin’s unusual physical strength, she repeatedly presses him to explain it; later, she is delighted to try yogurt for the first time 4 7.

Despite her abrasive humor and habit of provoking Xie Xie, Yun Ying is proud and independent. She pays back money spent on her, refuses to casually owe others, and ultimately shows concern for her friends—bringing Gu Yue food, supporting Xie Xie during Shadow’s attacks, and seeking help when she recognizes that a threat exceeds her own strength 6 7 20 25 26.
