Chapters 1–25 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 1Let Ryomen Sukuna Come!

Jie Jian was transported to an isolated space and told he would enter the Culling Game to defeat Ryomen Sukuna. After learning he could resurrect infinitely and keep his memories and gains, he eagerly agreed to go, only to arrive high in the sky and begin falling.

  • Jie Jian was sucked through his phone into a bright, windowless room after choosing to join the Culling Game in an online comment.
  • The system identified Jie Jian as having almost no cursed energy and explained that he would be sent into the Culling Game to defeat Ryomen Sukuna.
  • Jie Jian protested that he had chosen the option as a joke, but the system refused to send him home and said he could develop Special Grade strength by adapting.
  • The system revealed that Jie Jian could resurrect without limit after dying, retain his skills, experience, and memories, and receive rewards based on each attempt.
  • Jie Jian eagerly asked to be sent into the Culling Game, then appeared in the sky and began falling rapidly.

Ch. 2He Would Get Used to It

Jie Jian entered the Culling Game Barrier but was randomly dropped from the sky and died on impact, then learned the system could not control his landing point. Despite his fear, he tried again and died the same way, returning to the System Space with a second failure.

  • Jie Jian fell from the sky inside the Culling Game Barrier and died when he hit the concrete.
  • The system explained that the Barrier randomly teleported him and rewarded him with a small amount of Cursed Energy and increased impact resistance.
  • Jie Jian asked whether repeated deaths could strengthen his body, but the system said the rewards depended on his performance.
  • Jie Jian chose to enter the Culling Game again and was dropped from the sky a second time.
  • Jie Jian died on impact again, and the system recorded his second failure with the same rewards.

Ch. 3This Is My Last Struggle!

Jie Jian repeatedly died after teleporting into the Culling Game, then survived a fall into the sea and awakened his cursed energy while fighting off a curse. He reached shore and encountered Gold Beetle, who welcomed him as a Culling Game player.

  • Jie Jian repeatedly respawned above buildings and died from falling, raising his impact resistance with each failure.
  • Jie Jian landed in the sea on his tenth attempt and was immediately pursued by fish-like curses.
  • Jie Jian awakened his cursed energy in desperation and knocked a fish-like curse away with a punch.
  • Jie Jian swam to shore and taunted the curses stranded in the water.
  • Gold Beetle appeared beside Jie Jian and congratulated him for becoming a Culling Game player.

Ch. 4Really Adapted

Jie Jian entered the Culling Game in Tokyo No. 2 Colony, where he was ambushed and killed by a player camping near a revival point. After reviving and gaining cursed energy, he discovered that he had reached Grade 4 Sorcerer rank.

  • Jie Jian asked Golden Bug which Barrier he was in and learned that he had entered Tokyo No. 2 Colony.
  • Jie Jian realized he might be near the shipping containers where Kinji Hakari and Hajime Kashimo fought, then began exploring the Barrier.
  • Jie Jian warned an office worker to hide, but the man ambushed him with a powerful attack and killed him.
  • Jie Jian revived in System Space, learned that players were camping at revival points, and received a moderate cursed energy increase.
  • Jie Jian checked his panel and celebrated becoming a Grade 4 Sorcerer.

Ch. 5First Exploration of the Culling Game

Jie Jian gained cursed energy manipulation and learned that defeating sorcerers could earn him their innate techniques, then entered the Culling Game again. After surviving a fall into a mall and finding it deserted, he encountered a severed human head.

  • Jie Jian used cursed energy to strengthen his body and learned that difficult battles against sorcerers could reward him with their innate techniques.
  • The system confirmed that Jie Jian could freely use multiple innate techniques, potentially including ones like Satoru Gojo’s Six Eyes or Limitless.
  • Jie Jian entered another challenge and crashed through the roof of a shopping mall, surviving the fall by reinforcing and rolling his body.
  • Golden Bug welcomed Jie Jian into the Culling Game, and Jie Jian checked the mall for anyone waiting to ambush him.
  • Jie Jian explored the empty mall and stopped when he found a severed human head.

Ch. 6This is the Mindset of a Trash

Jie Jian explored the Culling Game spawn point and encountered Hajime Kashimo, who was searching for Sukuna. After checking the timeline, Jie Jian told him Sukuna was still inside Yuji Itadori and that Yuji was somewhere in Tokyo, leaving Kashimo frustrated and without a precise location.

  • Jie Jian found several mutilated corpses and signs of recent violence as he explored the shopping mall.
  • Jie Jian entered the rooftop and recognized the figure searching for Sukuna as Hajime Kashimo.
  • Hajime Kashimo asked Jie Jian where Sukuna was, and Jie Jian summoned his Golden Bug to learn the date was November 1, 2018.
  • Jie Jian told Hajime Kashimo that Sukuna was still inside Yuji Itadori, and that Yuji should be in Tokyo.
  • Hajime Kashimo accused Jie Jian of toying with him because Tokyo was too large to search, while Jie Jian admitted he did not know Yuji's exact whereabouts.

Ch. 7Add a Rule

Jie Jian explained that Sukuna was trapped inside Yuji Itadori but planned to use a Binding Vow to escape, then told Hajime Kashimo where he could find strong opponents. Kashimo decided to travel to Sendai Colony, but when the Golden Bug said players could not leave their barriers, Jie Jian proposed adding a rule that would let them cross between barriers.

  • Jie Jian told Hajime Kashimo that Sukuna was suppressed by Yuji Itadori and planned to use the Binding Vow triggered by “Enchain” to transfer his soul into another body.
  • Hajime Kashimo asked Jie Jian where he could find strong opponents, and Jie Jian said Tokyo No. 2 Colony had no particularly powerful sorcerers besides Kashimo.
  • Jie Jian identified Sendai Colony as the best destination, naming Druv Lakdawalla, Takako Uro, Ryu Ishigori, and Kurourushi as its formidable fighters.
  • Hajime Kashimo summoned his Golden Bug and asked to go to Sendai Colony, but the bug said players could not leave their barriers.
  • Jie Jian proposed adding a Culling Game rule allowing players to enter and leave barriers freely.

Ch. 8Can He Beat the Sendai Four Heavenly Kings?

Hajime Kashimo confirmed he could add a rule once he reached 100 points and continued hunting sorcerers in Tokyo No. 2 Colony while Jie Jian followed him. After reaching 91 points, Kashimo asked Jie Jian why he had joined the Culling Game.

  • The Golden Bug told Hajime Kashimo that he had 76 points and needed 24 more to add a rule, prompting Kashimo to ask whether Jie Jian was a sorcerer.
  • Jie Jian warned Kashimo that Sendai’s four Special Grade Sorcerers could use Domain Expansion, but Kashimo admitted he could not use it and declared himself invincible anyway.
  • Jie Jian accompanied Kashimo as he hunted sorcerers in Tokyo No. 2 Colony, hoping to see whether he could defeat the Sendai Four Heavenly Kings.
  • At noon, Jie Jian brought food to Kashimo after another battle, and Kashimo said he had reached 91 points and needed two more sorcerers.
  • Jie Jian backed away when he realized Kashimo was close to his goal, but Kashimo stopped him and asked why he had joined the Culling Game.

Ch. 9Setting Out for Sendai Colony!

Hajime Kashimo spent one hundred points to add a rule letting players freely enter and leave every Culling Game barrier, then planned to travel to Sendai Colony to fight its strongest players. Jie Jian realized the rule could let the Sendai Four Heavenly Kings escape and warned Kashimo.

  • Hajime Kashimo questioned why Jie Jian had joined the Culling Game, and Jie Jian said he had to challenge Sukuna, prompting Kashimo to laugh at him.
  • Hajime Kashimo gathered 106 points and used one hundred to add a rule allowing all players to freely enter and leave every barrier.
  • Kenjaku was surprised that someone had added a rule so quickly, but decided it would not interfere with his plans.
  • Hajime Kashimo planned to travel to Sendai Colony the next day, while Jie Jian eagerly anticipated his fight with the Sendai Four Heavenly Kings.
  • Jie Jian realized the new rule could let the Sendai Four Heavenly Kings leave Sendai Colony and warned Hajime Kashimo that they might run away.

Ch. 10An Accidental Encounter on the Street

Jie Jian and Hajime Kashimo drove out of Tokyo’s Barrier toward Sendai, hoping to find the Four Heavenly Kings before they left. On the way, they encountered Yuji and another sorcerer after Yuji defeated a curse, and Jie Jian recognized Yuji from the car as the mysterious hooded man.

  • Jie Jian offered to drive Hajime Kashimo to Sendai but admitted he had forgotten how to drive, so Kashimo took the wheel.
  • Kashimo drove through the now-open Barrier while Jie Jian noticed that Tokyo’s streets were nearly empty.
  • A terrified office worker ran into their path as a massive curse burst through a wall behind him.
  • A young sorcerer leapt in and destroyed the curse with a powerful strike, impressing Jie Jian.
  • Kashimo drove past the young sorcerer and his companion without stopping, nearly hitting the young man, whom the companion called Yuji.
  • Jie Jian spotted the hood on Yuji’s clothing and recognized him as the mysterious hooded man.

Ch. 11Choso

Hajime Kashimo recognized Yuji Itadori as Sukuna’s vessel and rushed to challenge Sukuna, while Choso stepped in to protect Yuji. Jie Jian revealed Choso’s origins and abilities, and Kashimo decided Choso looked worth killing.

  • Jie Jian clarified that the young man they had passed was Yuji Itadori, and Hajime Kashimo stopped the supercar and hurried back to find Sukuna’s vessel.
  • Choso warned Yuji of the approaching enemy, and Yuji sent a frightened office worker away before Kashimo confronted them and demanded that Yuji let Sukuna out.
  • Choso stood between Yuji and Kashimo, who asked Jie Jian to identify Choso after sensing his powerful cursed energy.
  • Jie Jian explained that Choso was a Cursed Womb: Death Painting created by Kenjaku, with Blood Manipulation and a cursed-spirit constitution.
  • Choso rejected being associated with the Kamo Family, and Jie Jian explained that Choso had learned Blood Manipulation alone and might reach Special Grade with time.
  • Hajime Kashimo decided Choso looked worth killing.

Ch. 12Kenjaku Took Things to the Extreme

Jie Jian revealed that Kenjaku had connections to both Choso and Yuji, leading them to realize they were brothers. Choso and Yuji acknowledged their bond while Kashimo watched, and the confrontation remained unresolved.

  • Kashimo dismissed Choso as a weak opponent and demanded that he move aside so he could find Sukuna, but Choso refused to let him hurt Yuji.
  • Yuji stepped forward to face Kashimo himself, explaining that he did not want Choso endangered because of Sukuna within him.
  • Jie Jian explained that Kenjaku had controlled Noritoshi Kamo when Choso was born and later controlled Kaori Itadori, Yuji's mother.
  • Jie Jian concluded that Choso and Yuji were brothers, and Yuji instinctively called Choso his big brother.
  • Choso embraced their relationship with joy as Kashimo reacted with disbelief at Kenjaku's past actions.

Ch. 13Sukuna, When Did You Get Here?

Jie Jian revealed that Kenjaku arranged for Yuji to become Sukuna’s vessel because Yuji’s grandfather, Wasuke Itadori, was the reincarnation of Sukuna’s twin brother and could suppress Sukuna. Sukuna appeared through Yuji to question Jie Jian, and Hajime Kashimo threatened to kill Yuji unless Sukuna took control of the body.

  • Hajime Kashimo asked Jie Jian what Kenjaku had hoped to accomplish, and Jie Jian said Kenjaku wanted a world of sorcerers, perhaps simply because he thought it would be fun.
  • Yuji asked why Kenjaku had targeted him, and Jie Jian explained that Sukuna had devoured his twin brother before birth, whose soul later reincarnated as Wasuke Itadori.
  • Jie Jian said Kenjaku possessed Yuji’s mother and arranged for Yuji’s birth because Wasuke’s body and soul gave Yuji the ability to suppress Sukuna.
  • Sukuna grew a mouth on Yuji’s neck and demanded to know who Jie Jian was, while Hajime Kashimo eagerly challenged Sukuna to fight.
  • Yuji covered Sukuna’s mouth and refused to release him, but Hajime Kashimo threatened to kill Yuji unless Sukuna used his one-minute ability to control the body.

Ch. 14How Did It Come to Me?!

Hajime Kashimo revealed Sukuna’s Binding Vow with Yuji Itadori, restoring Yuji’s memories of their agreement and exposing Sukuna’s plan to switch bodies. Sukuna used “Enchain” to take control, turned his power into a cursed object in Yuji’s little finger, and grabbed Jie Jian instead of going after Megumi Fushiguro.

  • Choso became enraged when Hajime Kashimo threatened Yuji and vowed to protect his younger brother.
  • Hajime Kashimo told Yuji about the Binding Vow and Sukuna’s plan to switch bodies, causing Yuji to remember their agreement.
  • Yuji suppressed Sukuna, but Sukuna said “Enchain” and took control of Yuji’s body.
  • Sukuna unleashed slashes to drive Choso and Hajime Kashimo back, then pulled the power from Yuji’s little finger and transformed it into a cursed object.
  • Sukuna grabbed Jie Jian and lifted him, leaving Jie Jian to wonder why Sukuna had targeted him instead of Megumi Fushiguro.

Ch. 15Sukuna Revived

Sukuna forced Jie Jian to swallow one of his fingers and revived in his body, while Yuji Itadori regained control of his own. As Sukuna struggled to understand why he could access only Jie Jian’s memories from that day onward, Hajime Kashimo attacked him and Choso fled with Yuji to seek Satoru Gojo’s help.

  • Sukuna tore off Yuji Itadori’s pinky and forced Jie Jian to swallow the finger, while Hajime Kashimo blocked Choso from intervening.
  • Jie Jian lost consciousness after slapping Sukuna, and Sukuna fully revived in Jie Jian’s body as Yuji Itadori regained control of his own.
  • Yuji Itadori charged Sukuna in anger, but Sukuna evaded him and kicked him away while inspecting Jie Jian’s inaccessible memories.
  • Choso caught Yuji Itadori and urged him to retreat, while Hajime Kashimo activated Mythical Beast Amber and attacked Sukuna.
  • Choso persuaded Yuji Itadori to leave and seek Satoru Gojo, and Yuji agreed to help revive his teacher.

Ch. 16Sukuna's Plot

After defeating Hajime Kashimo, Sukuna reunited with Uraume and Kenjaku and decided to reincarnate into Megumi Fushiguro's body. Kenjaku brought him to Yorozu, who agreed to lure Megumi to them in exchange for Sukuna promising to accept any condition if she could defeat him.

  • Sukuna remained in the ruined streets after Yuji and Choso fled, and Uraume arrived with three of Sukuna's fingers.
  • Uraume apologized for failing to find the final finger and prepare the Bath, but Sukuna swallowed the three fingers and said he did not need the ritual or Jie Jian's body.
  • Kenjaku arrived and told Sukuna he had no memory of anyone named Jie Jian; Sukuna then asked Kenjaku to take him to Megumi Fushiguro.
  • Kenjaku brought Sukuna and Uraume to a hospital ward, where Yorozu woke and recognized Sukuna before Uraume attacked her with frost.
  • Kenjaku explained that Yorozu's incarnated body belonged to Megumi's older sister, and Sukuna realized her death could weaken Megumi enough to make reincarnation easier.
  • Yorozu agreed to call Megumi over if Sukuna accepted any condition she named should she defeat him, then asked him to marry her.

Ch. 17On-Demand Substitute Fighter

Sukuna took over Megumi Fushiguro’s body after using Jie Jian’s body to lure him to the hospital, then killed Jie Jian when he awoke. Jie Jian returned to the System Space and received a settlement with numerous rewards.

  • Megumi Fushiguro discovered that the person posing as Tsumiki Fushiguro was the ancient sorcerer Yorozu.
  • Sukuna forced a finger into Megumi’s mouth, took over his body, and announced that he had obtained the body he wanted.
  • Jie Jian woke in the hospital beside Kenjaku and Sukuna, tried to make peace with Sukuna, and was killed by a slash.
  • Jie Jian learned from the system that Sukuna had used his body to lure Megumi to the hospital and switch into Megumi’s body.
  • The system settled Jie Jian’s challenge, awarding him increased cursed energy, control, combat ability, and durability, along with Undying Thunder and Reverse Cursed Technique.

Ch. 18I Am the Storm!

Jie Jian discovered that the system had awarded him Sukuna’s abilities for Sukuna’s victory over Hajime Kashimo, including Reverse Cursed Technique and Undying Thunder. He studied the lightning technique’s powers and dangerous ultimate move, then prepared to challenge Sukuna.

  • Jie Jian learned that the system had credited him with defeating Hajime Kashimo and awarded him Undying Thunder.
  • Jie Jian realized the system had counted Sukuna’s actions while possessing his body as his own and accepted the rewards.
  • Jie Jian checked his status panel and found himself at Special Grade with Special Grade cursed energy, Undying Thunder, and Reverse Cursed Technique.
  • Jie Jian examined Undying Thunder’s lightning attacks, enhancements, healing effects, and lethal ultimate move.
  • Jie Jian recognized Undying Thunder as resembling Volibear’s abilities from League and decided to use it against Sukuna.

Ch. 19First Battle

Jie Jian began the twelfth Culling Game challenge and tested his enhanced durability with a dramatic landing at an amusement park. There, he met Charles Bernard and persuaded the reluctant manga enthusiast to spar with him.

  • Jie Jian started the challenge after the system warned him that injuries would not reset, then used lightning cursed energy to survive a high-speed fall.
  • Jie Jian searched the amusement park for someone to fight and called out for a sparring partner.
  • Charles Bernard introduced himself, and Jie Jian recognized him as the manga artist from the story.
  • Jie Jian praised Charles as a manga artist, then asked to test his newly acquired technique against him.
  • Charles initially refused to fight, but agreed after Jie Jian called himself a future fan.

Ch. 20I’m Obviously a Technical Player

Charlie and Jie Jian began sparring, and Charlie used his Future Sight technique to dodge Jie Jian’s attacks and wound him. Jie Jian healed himself with Reverse Cursed Technique, leaving Charlie astonished as their spar continued.

  • Charlie explained that his G Staff transformed from his pen when he infused it with cursed energy, and Jie Jian failed to use it himself.
  • Jie Jian rushed Charlie with lightning-charged attacks, but Charlie dodged them and cut Jie Jian’s arm with the G Staff.
  • Charlie revealed that Future Sight had let him anticipate Jie Jian’s movements, while Jie Jian dismissed his wound and healed it with Reverse Cursed Technique.
  • Charlie called Jie Jian’s abilities more ridiculous than his own, and Jie Jian insisted he was an execution player, not a stat monster.

Ch. 21Operate You!

Jie Jian discovered that his basic attacks could strike through the air, then ended his spar with Charlie when Charlie gave up. When an ambusher tried to kill Charlie, Jie Jian intervened and killed him with Lightning Strike, earning five points in the Culling Game.

  • Jie Jian realized his basic attacks could hit Charlie from a distance and trigger his Thunder Field.
  • Charlie ended their spar, and Jie Jian agreed to fight him another day.
  • A burly sorcerer ambushed Charlie to claim five points, but Jie Jian blocked the attack.
  • The sorcerer tried to keep his distance, so Jie Jian struck him with a prepared Lightning Strike and killed him.
  • The Golden Bug awarded Jie Jian five points.

Ch. 22Words Are Useless, Let's Duel!

After Charlie praised Jie Jian’s fighting skill, Jie Jian searched the Culling Game Barrier for an opponent and headed to the mall to challenge Hajime Kashimo. Jie Jian and Hajime Kashimo met with a clash of lightning and agreed to duel.

  • Charlie watched Jie Jian’s fight, then praised his moves when Jie Jian asked what he thought.
  • Jie Jian invited Charlie to explore with him, but Charlie declined, and Jie Jian continued alone.
  • After finding no opponents, Jie Jian climbed a tall building, spotted a mall, and decided Hajime Kashimo was likely there.
  • Jie Jian leaped into the mall and attacked Hajime Kashimo with an Electric Current Whip, but Kashimo’s lightning resistance kept him from being seriously hurt.
  • Jie Jian refused to answer Kashimo’s questions, and they shouted “DUEL!” as they faced each other.

Ch. 23Strongest Thunder God in History VS Strongest Thunder God of the Modern Era

Jie Jian and Hajime Kashimo fought across a mall, where Jie Jian’s powerful strikes and lightning technique repeatedly caught Kashimo off guard. After Jie Jian neutralized the charges Kashimo had planted in him, Kashimo refused to retreat and prepared to keep fighting despite being countered.

  • Jie Jian overpowered Hajime Kashimo with punches that stunned him and sent him crashing into a store.
  • Hajime Kashimo retrieved his iron staff and returned to the fight, praising Jie Jian’s technique before attacking from above.
  • Jie Jian dodged Kashimo’s staff strike and tricked him with a shouted but unsuccessful Black Flash elbow strike.
  • Hajime Kashimo declared that he had secured victory, but his attempt to activate charges inside Jie Jian’s body failed.
  • Jie Jian explained that his lightning technique had absorbed Kashimo’s charges, and Kashimo chose to fight on rather than flee.

Ch. 24The Strongest God of Thunder, Inscribed in Tokyo

Jie Jian fought Hajime Kashimo in a shopping mall, where their lightning abilities largely countered each other. Hajime Kashimo’s indiscriminate thunderstorm devastated the mall and left Jie Jian unable to continue, giving Hajime Kashimo the victory.

  • Hajime Kashimo and Jie Jian traded close-range blows as their lightning abilities neutralized much of each other’s advantage.
  • Jie Jian noticed Hajime Kashimo’s attacks were missing and weakening, but did not realize the old sorcerer was planting electrical charges around the mall.
  • Hajime Kashimo revealed that he had spread charges across the battlefield and prepared to trigger an Unrestricted Thunderstorm.
  • Hajime Kashimo activated Feedback Shock, unleashing a massive thunderstorm that destroyed the mall and severely injured both fighters.
  • Hajime Kashimo endured the blast better than Jie Jian, who could no longer fight, and won the battle.

Ch. 25I'm Sorry I Couldn't Let Lord Jie Jian Enjoy Himself!

Jie Jian caught Hajime Kashimo off guard with a sudden punch after recovering from his injuries, knocking him unconscious and earning five points. Kenjaku sensed a powerful sorcerer had died in Tokyo No. 2 Colony but wrongly assumed Hajime Kashimo could not have been defeated.

  • Hajime Kashimo used his remaining cursed energy to charge the mall and unleash a thunderstorm against Jie Jian.
  • Jie Jian recovered with Reverse Cursed Technique and struck Hajime Kashimo before he could defend himself.
  • In a deathbed flashback, Hajime Kashimo spoke with an imagined Kenjaku and regretted that he could not let Lord Jie Jian enjoy their fight more.
  • Jie Jian confirmed Hajime Kashimo was down when his points increased, then went to find clothes after the thunderstorm destroyed his outfit.
  • Kenjaku sensed a powerful sorcerer had died in Tokyo No. 2 Colony, considered Hajime Kashimo, and dismissed the possibility that anyone there could have defeated him.
