Background / History
Gojo initially intended to exorcise the newborn Death Curse Spirit Ronawa. After discovering both her life-and-death philosophy and her potential to threaten him, he instead placed her under his personal supervision and promised to help her grow. His decision was partly a gamble and partly the result of his desire to cultivate a worthy future opponent. 2 3 6
His protection of Ronawa worsened his already hostile relationship with the Jujutsu Society higher-ups. They distrusted his claim that Ronawa’s Death Feather had been exorcised, citing his earlier protection of Yuta Okkotsu and Rika as evidence that he could not be trusted with dangerous anomalies. 4 6
After Ronawa was forced into contact with Suguru Geto, Gojo exposed her attempted double-agent arrangement and ordered her to continue feeding him intelligence on Geto’s organization. He also arranged missions for her with Megumi Fushiguro, treating her development as both training and a calculated risk. 10 11
Personality
Gojo is reckless by choice rather than incompetence. He repeatedly takes risks with dangerous people and situations—including raising Ronawa—because his strength and confidence make him willing to gamble on impossible outcomes. 2 3 6
He is deeply rebellious toward institutional authority. He deceives the higher-ups, openly mocks their inability to defeat Ronawa, and eventually leads them into confronting her after they plot against him. 6 36
Despite his flippancy, Gojo is observant and pragmatic. He monitors Ronawa’s conduct, recognizes her restraint, changes his combat habits when her technique invalidates his usual approach, and recruits her when Japan’s curse crisis exceeds what one sorcerer can sustain. 26 34 61
The fallout of the Yokohama Incident turns him into an exhausted stabilizing force. He suppresses jujutsu factions, works with government officials, manages curse disasters and international negotiations, and ultimately resigns from teaching because ordinary school operations become untenable. 54 59
Abilities & Skills
Cursed Energy Output and Physical Combat
Gojo possesses exceptional cursed-energy efficiency: one unit of his cursed energy can produce five or more units of destructive power, despite his total cursed-energy reserves being lower than Yuta Okkotsu’s. 3
- His cursed energy reinforces his close-quarters combat to an extreme degree; a single punch can destroy dozens of Ronawa’s cursed-energy hands. 32
- He is an accomplished Black Flash user and taught Ronawa how to perform it. 24
- His comparatively limited total reserves make prolonged nationwide, high-intensity exorcism patrols unsustainable, even though he can easily handle individual Special-Grade Curses. 61
Six Eyes
Gojo possesses the Six Eyes alongside the Gojo Clan’s Limitless Technique. Although these abilities are extraordinary, the narrative emphasizes that his own talent and technical mastery elevated their reputation rather than merely relying on their inherited prestige. 26
- He can use the Six Eyes to lock onto targets at range. 36
- His technical understanding and execution are regarded as his defining advantages over raw cursed-energy reserves. 62
Limitless Technique
Gojo’s Limitless Technique provides the “infinity” defense that prevents attacks from reaching him. Ronawa’s Thousand Hands, Hundred Eyes slashes could not pass through it under normal circumstances. 33
- Infinity — His primary defense; it blocks attacks by maintaining inaccessible space between Gojo and the attacker. 33
- Vulnerability — Ronawa’s All Things Die can kill the concept of the Limitless Technique itself, temporarily disabling Infinity and allowing attacks to reach him. 3 34
- The technique’s failure against Ronawa forced Gojo to abandon established combat habits and adapt in real time. 34
Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue
Blue creates an intensely compressed sphere of cursed energy that generates overwhelming gravitational force. 33
- Redirects incoming attacks through gravitational pull. 33
- Draws in and crushes cursed-energy constructs, including Ronawa’s manifested hands. 33
- Can be used in combination with Red to tear apart cursed-energy constructs and strike Ronawa directly. 34
Cursed Technique Reversal: Red
Red is Gojo’s reversed technique, producing repulsive force opposite to Blue’s attraction. 34
- Gojo can deploy it alongside Blue during combat. 34
- Ronawa can nullify Red through All Things Die, causing backlash to Gojo when his technique is killed. 34
Hollow Technique: Purple
Purple combines Blue and Red into an annihilating attack capable of destroying matter, imaginary matter, and cursed energy. 10 33
- It is described as the strongest offensive technique in Jujutsu Society. 33
- Even Gojo’s own Limitless defense cannot block Purple. 33
Domain Expansion: Unlimited Void
Gojo’s Domain Expansion is Unlimited Void. 35
- He deployed it after determining that Ronawa could not defeat him directly at her then-current cursed-energy level. 35
- Ronawa had previously escaped it by killing “distance,” prompting Gojo to treat her later domain challenge with caution. 35 36
Teleportation and Reverse Cursed Technique
Gojo can teleport directly to distant locations and has mastered the reversal of cursed technique. 10 20
- He uses teleportation to reach Ronawa, appear at key locations, and rapidly respond to crises. 20 40
- His mastery of reversal cursed technique and Purple places Suguru Geto far below him in direct combat, despite Geto once being considered his equal. 10
Relationships
- Ronawa — Her supervisor, mentor, opponent, and eventual ally. Gojo spares and trains her, fights her to a stalemate, then later asks her to exterminate Curses when Japan’s sorcerers are overwhelmed. 2 32 36 60 61
- Suguru Geto — Former partner and close friend. Gojo avoids killing him despite having the power to do so, but later holds him as Geto dies and buries him afterward. 10 38
- Shoko Ieiri — Former school companion and trusted confidante. Gojo brings Ronawa to Shoko for shelter, later reassures Shoko about Ronawa’s restraint, and seeks Ronawa through her during the curse crisis. 5 26 60
- Yuta Okkotsu — A powerful student Gojo previously protected from the higher-ups despite Rika’s danger. Yuta later reports Kenjaku’s suspicious activity to him. 4 69
- Megumi Fushiguro — Student entrusted with missions and investigations. Gojo initially pairs Megumi with Ronawa to encourage a bond, then later assigns him and Yuji to investigate sorcerer disappearances. 11 81
- Yuji Itadori — Gojo’s student. Gojo protects Yuji’s place at Jujutsu High and later dispatches him with Megumi to investigate Kenjaku’s activities. 65 81
- Jujutsu Society higher-ups — Institutional adversaries. They distrust Gojo for protecting dangerous anomalies, while he resents their schemes and manipulates them into confronting Ronawa. 4 6 36
- Kenjaku — An unseen strategic enemy. Gojo recognizes that Kenjaku is orchestrating large-scale incidents but lacks sufficient information to determine his full plan. 54 69
- Tritium — A casual acquaintance through Ronawa and Shoko. Gojo steals one of her drinks after recruiting Ronawa, nearly provoking Tritium into attacking him. 61
Story Role / Major Arcs
Protection of Ronawa
Gojo’s decision to protect Ronawa establishes the central conflict with Jujutsu Society. He believes her restraint and potential justify taking responsibility for supervising her, even though he knows she could eventually become an unmatched threat. 2 3 26
Double-Agent Operation
After learning that Suguru Geto has threatened Ronawa into cooperation, Gojo turns her into a double agent. He orders her to maintain contact with Geto and uncover the extent of Geto’s network rather than provoking an immediate confrontation. 10
Battle with Ronawa
Gojo gives Ronawa two months to grow before challenging her. During their battle, he demonstrates overwhelming physical ability, Infinity, Blue, Red, Purple, and Unlimited Void, while Ronawa proves capable of nullifying his Limitless Technique. Their confrontation ends in a rough draw after Gojo refuses to challenge her domain. 20 32 34 35 36
Death of Suguru Geto and the Higher-Ups’ Fall
After leaving Ronawa to the pursuing higher-ups, Gojo goes to Jujutsu High in response to Geto’s attack. He witnesses Geto’s death, buries him, and later faces the consequences of Ronawa’s slaughter of the higher-ups he had deceived into pursuing her. 36 38 40
Yokohama Incident and National Stabilization
When Ronawa loses control after witnessing the Yokohama massacre, Gojo abandons the response mission because her berserk state threatens the entire planet. Afterward, he becomes Japan’s primary stabilizer, restraining jujutsu factions and coordinating with the government as the supernatural world becomes public knowledge. 53 54
Curse Extermination Crisis
The worldwide rise in fear causes Curse births to surge beyond the remaining sorcerers’ capacity. Exhausted and unable to patrol all of Japan alone, Gojo asks Ronawa to help; her subsequent extermination campaign clears Tokyo in a single night and relieves pressure on the sorcerers. 59 60 61
Great Jujutsu Era
Gojo continues managing the instability created by newly awakened sorcerers and the collapse of the old jujutsu order. He refuses to use Ronawa against rogue sorcerers, fearing that normalizing her violence against humans could lead to indiscriminate slaughter. 67
Jujutsu Families’ Revenge
Gojo senses Yicheng Shen’s extraordinary cursed-energy surge as the jujutsu families launch their attempt on Ronawa. He recognizes that neither Shen nor Ronawa is an opponent he can meaningfully interfere with and can only observe the impending conflict. 73 74
