Bodies littered the land, rotting across the ground. The nauseating stench of blood permeated every stretch of the walls, filling the capital with an atmosphere called death. Carrion vultures circled overhead, their keen eyes wide open, seemingly waiting for the war below to end so they could descend and feast.
The walls of this once most prosperous capital of the Heaven Dou Empire, formerly the tallest and most reassuring fortifications in the nation, were now in ruins, more than half of them collapsed. Powerful Soul Skills had torn several enormous breaches through them. Normally, workers would already have been dispatched to repair the damage, but the fighting here was so fierce that no outsiders could approach. A few large boulders had merely been shoved into the gaps, a makeshift measure that accomplished next to nothing.
