History
The Star Luo Empire was one of Douluo Continent’s two great empires. Its imperial family inherited the Evil-Eyed White Tiger Martial Soul, traced to the Evil-Eyed Saint King. Succession was marked by brutal contests among princes, with only the strongest surviving to inherit the family’s secret legacy 193 689 690.
By the time of its war with the Spirit Hall Empire, land and wealth had become concentrated among nobles. Spirit Hall benefited from leaked military intelligence and the secession of two Star Luo kingdoms. Poor troop quality and inadequate supplies contributed to repeated defeats; Star Luo lost about one-third of its territory 590 611.
Crown Prince Dai Mubai sought help from Yang Ming’s Sky-Blasting Gang. With that support, he argued for a joint offensive with Heaven Dou against Spirit Hall. The emperor approved a violent purge of the conservative court faction and appointed Mubai Grand Marshal of the Frontlines 611 618 635 636.
Dai Weisi subsequently led a rebellion, assassinated the emperor, seized the throne and made peace with Spirit Hall. After Dai Mubai’s death, Yang Ming led an invasion that reached Star Luo City in less than four months. He defeated the imperial family’s hidden protector, the Evil-Eyed Saint King, and captured Dai Weisi 661 684 695 697.
Yang Ming found the conquered empire difficult to administer directly and considered Zhu Zhuqing as a ruler. His campaign against entrenched noble clans included opening Zhu Clan granaries to provide affordable grain, confiscating aristocratic property and lowering taxes. Three months after stabilizing Star Luo, he returned to Heaven Dou with Zhu Zhuqing 699 705 706 709 710.
Government and Society
- Noble influence: Great clans controlled essential trade. The Li Clan handled sixty percent of the empire’s grain trade, while the Liu Clan controlled sea trade routes 706.
- Wealth concentration: Noble families comprising about twenty percent of the population held more than eighty percent of the empire’s wealth. Yang Ming’s purge seized approximately three billion Gold Soul Coins in liquid funds alone 709.
- Rule after conquest: Yang Ming declined to merge Star Luo with Heaven Dou. By Chapter 1022, Zhu Zhuqing’s maternal family governed its territory, preserving a balance between the two empires under his influence 1022.
