| Name | Kaido (凯多) |
| Alias(es) | Kaido of the Beasts; Four Emperor; “Strongest Creature” |
| Gender | Male |
| Affiliation | Beasts Pirates |
| Occupation/Role | One of the Four Emperors; leader of the Beasts Pirates |
| Status | Imprisoned in Level Six, Infinite Hell of Impel Down 35 |
| First Appearance | Chapter 25 |
Background
Kaido had repeatedly challenged the Marines and other Four Emperors alone before the Marineford incident. He had reportedly been defeated seven times, captured eighteen times, subjected to more than a thousand tortures, and sentenced to execution forty times, yet conventional restraints and execution methods repeatedly failed to kill him. He had also sunk nine enormous prison ships. 24
Before his imprisonment, Kaido’s Beasts Pirates maintained an Artificial Devil Fruit supply line with Donquixote Doflamingo. Jack the Drought oversaw a shipment at Dressrosa, but Rear Admiral Roya confiscated the cargo and arrested both Jack and Doflamingo, cutting off the operation. 17 22 24
Appearance
Kaido is a towering combatant who can transform into an immense azure dragon or his strongest Dragon-Human Form. 25 30
- Azure Dragon Form — A massive dragon capable of circling above Marineford and unleashing destructive breath attacks. 25 26
- Dragon-Human Form — Kaido’s strongest transformation, used after Roya began gaining the upper hand in their duel. 30
- Weapon — Carries a large spiked club, which he coats with Haki in battle. 26 27
- Battle scars — After his defeat, he bears a deep sword wound across his chest severe enough to expose bone. 32 35
Personality
Kaido is aggressively proud, hot-tempered, and contemptuous of opponents he considers weak. He attacked Marine Headquarters alone, called its defenders “insects,” and repeatedly dismissed Garp and Sengoku as remnants of an old era. 25 28
He values overwhelming strength and sees Conqueror’s Haki as proof of a ruler’s qualifications. Upon learning that Roya could match his Conqueror’s Haki and infuse it into attacks, Kaido decided that Roya had to die before becoming a greater threat. 29 30
Despite his arrogance, Kaido is capable of conceding when faced with certain death. He surrendered after Roya’s second Golden Wheel Reincarnation Explosion broke through his defenses, though he insisted that he had surrendered only to Roya—not the Marines. 32 33
Abilities & Skills
Extreme Durability
Kaido’s defining trait is his extraordinary resilience. Powerful attacks from elite Marines, Seven Warlords, and Admirals fail to injure him significantly. 24 26 29
- Kizaru’s Yasakani Sacred Jewel leaves him completely unharmed. 26
- He withstands Mihawk’s strongest slash, Sengoku’s Buddha-form shockwave, and prolonged exchanges against Garp and Sengoku without visible injury. 27 29
- His durability is ultimately breached by Roya’s Tenseigan technique, Golden Wheel Reincarnation Explosion. 31 32
Conqueror’s Haki
Kaido possesses highly advanced Conqueror’s Haki and can infuse it into physical attacks and his spiked club. 27 29
- His Haki-infused club effortlessly neutralizes Mihawk’s massive sword slash. 27
- He releases Haki powerful enough to destroy Gecko Moria’s bat swarm without moving. 27
- His Conqueror’s Haki clashes evenly with Roya’s blood-red aura, knocking out elite Marines and splitting the sky above Marineford. 29 30
- Limit: Roya’s own Conqueror’s Haki infusion matches Kaido’s during their direct weapon clashes. 29 30
Armament Haki
Kaido coats his fists and spiked club in Armament Haki, often combining it with Conqueror’s Haki infusion. 26 27
- Defeats Kizaru with a Haki-coated Thunder Bagua. 26
- Overpowers Blackbeard despite the Dark-Dark Fruit’s ability to pull him in and suppress Devil Fruit powers. 27
- Uses both Armament and Conqueror’s Haki against Garp and Roya. 28 30
Zoan Transformations
Kaido possesses a Zoan-type Devil Fruit that enables multiple combat forms. 27
- Azure Dragon Form — Grants flight, immense size, powerful roars, and destructive dragon breath. 25 26
- Dragon-Human Form — His strongest form; he uses it only after Roya proves capable of contending with him directly. 30
- Limit: Even in Dragon-Human Form, he is critically wounded and defeated by Roya’s Golden Wheel Reincarnation Explosion. 31 32
Combat Techniques
- Boro Breath — A charged dragon-breath attack powerful enough to destroy an entire island; Kizaru intercepts one aimed at Marine Headquarters. 26
- Thunder Bagua — A devastating Haki-coated club strike used against Kizaru, Gecko Moria, and Roya. 26 27 30
- Three Realms: Naraka — Kaido’s ultimate attack, delivered in Dragon-Human Form with Conqueror’s Haki infusion. 30 32
Equipment / Restraints
- Spiked club — Kaido’s primary weapon, used with Armament and Conqueror’s Haki. 26 27
- Seastone handcuffs and shackles — Applied after his surrender for transport and confinement in Impel Down. 33 35
Story Role / Major Arcs
Artificial Devil Fruit Operation
Kaido’s connection to Doflamingo is exposed when Roya confiscates Artificial Devil Fruits from Jack’s ship at Dressrosa. The arrest of Jack and Doflamingo deprives the Beasts Pirates of the operation and provokes Kaido’s response. 17 22 24
Attack on Marine Headquarters
Kaido arrives at Marineford in Azure Dragon Form, demanding Doflamingo, Jack, and Roya. He threatens to destroy Marine Headquarters and kill its Marines if Sengoku refuses. 25
He defeats Kizaru, Mihawk, Gecko Moria, and Blackbeard in succession, then withstands the combined assault of Garp and Sengoku without injury. 26 29
Battle Against Roya
After Garp and Sengoku fail to damage Kaido, Roya volunteers to fight him. Their Conqueror’s Haki clashes evenly, and their weapon collision shakes Marineford and splits the sky. 29 30
Kaido enters Dragon-Human Form and uses Three Realms: Naraka, but Roya survives almost unharmed through the Tenseigan. Roya then injures Kaido with Golden Wheel Reincarnation Explosion before defeating him with a second use of the technique. 30 32
Surrender and Imprisonment
With Roya preparing to deliver a finishing blow, Kaido surrenders. He is restrained with Seastone and personally escorted to Impel Down by Roya. 32 33
In Infinite Hell, Kaido remains defiant and vows to escape and destroy Marine Headquarters. He directs particular hostility toward Doflamingo, apparently blaming him for the events that led to his defeat. 33 35
Relationships
- Roya — Defeated Kaido in direct combat and forced his surrender; Kaido acknowledges surrendering only to Roya rather than to the Marines. 29 33
- Donquixote Doflamingo — Artificial Devil Fruit trade partner whose capture helped trigger Kaido’s attack on Marineford; Kaido later directs killing intent toward him in Infinite Hell. 17 24 35
- Jack the Drought — Senior Beasts Pirates officer whom Kaido attempted to recover from Marine custody; Kaido responds coldly to Jack after arriving in Impel Down. 24 25 35
- Garp — Longstanding Marine adversary; Kaido has fought him previously and mocks him as a remnant of the old era. 25 28
- Sengoku — Longstanding Marine adversary who rejects Kaido’s demands and later orders his imprisonment. 25 28 33
- Big Mom — Reacts furiously to Kaido’s imprisonment and prepares an expedition to Impel Down to rescue him. 36
- Gecko Moria — Former opponent with a personal grudge against Kaido; Moria attacks him at Marineford but is defeated. 27
Notable Quotes
“Hand over Jack and Donquixote Doflamingo, or I’ll destroy your Marine Headquarters!” 25
“I didn’t surrender to the Marines. I only surrendered to a true expert like Roya.” 33
