Background
Roya transmigrated into the pirate-filled world of One Piece and initially joined the Marines for protection. After entering Marine school, he spent nearly three years training, though he considered his natural talent ordinary. His awakening of Conqueror’s Haki earned him a direct promotion from ensign to major and activated the Automatic Cultivation System. 1
The system cultivates abilities Roya has mastered or otherwise qualified to cultivate. Its abilities possess rudimentary emotions: exceptional opponents, ambition, anger, and other intense stimuli can dramatically accelerate their training. This lets Roya turn both admiration and adversity into power. 1 5 15 48
Vice Admiral Garp notices Roya after his swift defeat of Koby and Helmeppo. Garp becomes his Haki instructor, teaches him combat applications of Observation and Armament Haki, and supports his decision to become a swordsman rather than rely solely on physical combat or a Devil Fruit. 2 6
Rank and Command
| Rank / Position | Details |
|---|---|
| Marine Major | Promoted directly from ensign after awakening Conqueror’s Haki. 1 |
| Under Garp’s command | Garp recruits Roya to serve aboard his ship and later becomes his mentor. 2 3 |
| Marine Headquarters Rear Admiral | Exceptionally promoted after proving his strength against Garp. 7 |
| Marine Headquarters’ Fourth Admiral | Promoted after defeating and severely injuring Kaido; receives an admiral’s cloak and personal warship. 37 |
Appearance
Roya is ordinarily seen in Marine uniform, first wearing a major’s coat and later an admiral’s cloak. When activating the Tenseigan, his black pupils become blue and he is surrounded by green energy. 1 31 37
- Carries a sword and frequently coats it with Armament or Conqueror’s Haki. 6 29
- Currently wears Seastone handcuffs and shackles in Impel Down. 49 50
- His Conqueror’s Haki is described as blood-red and carries a violent, oppressive presence. 29
Personality
Roya is relentlessly ambitious and views strength as essential to survival in the pirate world. His desire to surpass talented peers, legendary swordsmen, and eventually become the world’s strongest repeatedly stimulates his cultivation system. 1 6 34
He is confident to the point of arrogance, often taunting enemies such as Blackbeard, Doflamingo, Jack, Kaido, and Sakazuki. He can be dismissive of opponents he considers weak, as shown by his treatment of Helmeppo and his refusal to take major pirates’ threats seriously. 2 11 19 20 44
Despite his independence, Roya values Garp and Sengoku’s trust. He voluntarily accepts temporary imprisonment because he promised them he would do so, even though the Marines acknowledge that they could not physically prevent his escape. 47 48
Roya’s sense of justice rejects obedience to the Celestial Dragons. He openly condemns the Marines’ subservience to them, assaults Saint Charlos, and ultimately kills him despite knowing the political consequences. 41 44 47
Abilities & Skills
Automatic Cultivation System
The Automatic Cultivation System automatically trains abilities Roya has mastered or is qualified to cultivate. It can establish new projects through unusual events and grants rewards when an ability reaches max level. 1
- Abilities can react emotionally to Roya’s determination, anger, or exposure to stronger techniques, increasing their cultivation speeds. 1 5 15
- Grants powers without requiring Roya to consume Devil Fruits or suffer their sea-related weakness. 13 16
- Its max-level reward for Soru gives Roya an Alternate-Dimension Draw, initially producing the Byakugan before evolving it into the Tenseigan. 22 23
Conqueror’s Haki
Roya’s signature ability is an exceptionally advanced Conqueror’s Haki that developed from basic intimidation into a tangible, destructive force. He can direct it precisely, incapacitate masses of enemies, infuse it into weapons, and project it outward. 3 11 22 29
- Knocked out Koby and nearby Marines during his first recorded combat use. 3
- Materializes Haki to destroy debris launched by Blackbeard’s Dark-Dark Fruit. 11
- Suppresses and physically harms prisoners across Infinite Hell. 15
- Incapacitates Doflamingo’s officers and the Supernovas with overwhelming bursts. 18 39
- Clashes evenly with Kaido’s Conqueror’s Haki and coats his sword for direct exchanges. 29 30
- Repels Kuzan and neutralizes Borsalino’s attacks while fighting the other Admirals. 45
Observation Haki
Roya possesses advanced Observation Haki, later described as capable of foreseeing the near future. 12 43
- Predicts and evades Blackbeard’s gunfire. 12
- Detects Bartholomew Kuma despite Kuma attempting to remain hidden. 41
- Allows him to evade Kizaru’s light-speed kick by combining foresight with Soru. 43
Armament Haki
Roya can harden his body and weapons with Armament Haki, use outward emission, and combine it with his other combat styles. 6 20
- Uses Armament-coated Finger Pistol, swords, and punches against opponents including Helmeppo, Blackbeard, Doflamingo, and Jack. 2 12 18 20
- Learns advanced outward emission, called Ryuo in Wano, and forces Garp back during a spar. 6
- Blasts Jack away before the latter’s Mammoth-form attack can make contact. 20
Armament Conqueror’s Haki Infusion
This rare technique infuses Conqueror’s Haki into projected Armament Haki, allowing Roya to strike Logia users’ physical bodies without conventional Armament Haki contact. 49
- Is considered a technique possessed by only a handful of individuals in the world. 49
- Is stronger than ordinary Conqueror’s Haki infusion through its combination of two Haki types. 49
Marine Six Powers
Roya has mastered all Six Powers and combines them with Haki in combat. Soru is his most developed technique, having reached max level. 1 22
- Soru — Instantaneous high-speed movement; used to evade Doflamingo’s awakened threads and Kizaru’s attacks. 18 43
- Iron Body — Hardened defense that withstands Helmeppo’s sword strikes and supports Roya’s defense against Blackbeard. 2 12
- Finger Pistol — A piercing finger strike; severely injures Helmeppo and eventually reaches top level. 2 48
- Geppo and Rankyaku — Used alongside Soru in aerial, Armament-coated attacks against Blackbeard. 11
Swordsmanship
Roya chooses swordsmanship as his primary combat specialty, believing it offers greater potential than relying only on physical combat. Garp teaches him the fundamentals, while later encounters with stronger swordsmen accelerate his progress. 5 6
- Reaches Swordmaster level after more than four months of continuous training. 6
- Uses Haki-coated sword strikes to wound Blackbeard and cut through his Dark Hole. 12
- Coats his sword in Conqueror’s Haki to fight Kaido directly. 29 30
- Gains a further tenfold swordsmanship cultivation boost after clashing with Silvers Rayleigh. 41
Dark-Dark Fruit Ability
Roya gains the Dark-Dark Fruit’s power through the system after defeating Blackbeard, without eating the fruit or losing his ability to swim. 12 13
- Creates darkness that absorbs attacks and objects, including Doflamingo’s God Thread and Sakazuki’s magma. 19 46
- Uses Dark Water’s gravitational pull to draw enemies close and suppress their Devil Fruit abilities. 19 46
- Uses Dark Hole to engulf and suffocate prisoners across Infinite Hell. 15
- Can return absorbed magma as a weaponized barrage. 46
Venom-Venom Fruit Ability
Roya acquires the Venom-Venom Fruit after suppressing Infinite Hell, gaining poison immunity alongside the fruit’s offensive capabilities. 15 16
- Forms venom barriers that block Jack’s attacks. 21
- Creates venom constructs such as a king cobra and a massive Venom Dragon. 21
- Reinforces venom with Armament Haki. 21
- Poisons and defeats Jack, leaving the Ancient Zoan user unconscious. 21
Tenseigan
The Tenseigan evolves from an Alternate-Dimension Draw’s Byakugan reward and gives Roya a separate ocular power set. 22 23
- Activates Tenseigan Chakra Mode, enveloping Roya in green energy and allowing him to withstand Kaido’s Conqueror’s Haki-coated strike without moving. 31
- Manipulates gravity to lift and hurl Marineford’s debris at Kaido. 31
- Uses Golden Wheel Reincarnation Explosion, a massive sword of light that splits Marineford in half. 31
Physique Cultivation
Roya unlocks Physique Cultivation after admiring Kaido’s extraordinary durability and desiring a comparable body. 34
- Begins at beginner level with a fivefold automatic cultivation speed. 34
- Exists alongside his Haki, swordsmanship, Six Powers, Devil Fruit abilities, and Tenseigan. 37
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Sword — Roya’s primary weapon; regularly reinforced with Armament Haki and Conqueror’s Haki. 6 29
- Admiral’s cloak — Issued upon his promotion as Marine Headquarters’ Fourth Admiral. 37

- Silvers Rayleigh — Swordsmanship opponent. Roya fights Rayleigh at Sabaody to stimulate his own swordsmanship cultivation, then allows him to retreat. 41
- Boa Hancock — Accompanies Roya after the Blackbeard incident and remains aboard his ship, prompting speculation among Marines. 13
