Background

Du Bushi is the long-serving sect master of the Body Sect, over two hundred years old and concerned that the sect lacks a younger powerhouse capable of carrying its legacy. His central ambition is to make the Body Sect the continent’s foremost force. Before Lu Chen’s arrival, Long Aotian was regarded as the best available successor, but Du Bushi considered his Skin Martial Soul unable to match the potential of a full-body martial soul. 3

Lu Chen’s registration for the Heavenly Spirit Great Soul Arena immediately draws Du Bushi’s attention. Though Lu Chen is officially only a Rank 10 Soul Scholar, Du Bushi recognizes the unusual quality of his Body Martial Soul and becomes interested in recruiting him. 10 15

After observing Lu Chen survive an ambush by numerous Soul Elders, Du Bushi formally accepts him as a disciple. He reveals that Lu Chen’s test was never about whether he would be admitted; it was meant to judge his courage, decisiveness, and willingness to advance through danger. Du Bushi then names him the Body Sect’s future sect master. 21

At the Body Sect headquarters, Du Bushi publicly confirms Lu Chen as Young Sect Master. He silences Elder Jin Peng’s objections by having Lu Chen reveal his complete full-body martial soul, which the elders identify as nearly identical to Du Bushi’s own and possessing an ultimate light attribute. 23

Du Bushi personally gives Lu Chen the Body Secret Art and Innate Secret Art, then arranges the extreme Gravity Domain training that allows Lu Chen to repeatedly destroy and rebuild his body. He later provides multiple high-grade Soul Bones to strengthen Lu Chen before his Soul Ring hunt. 24 25 28 29

After Lu Chen discovers the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Eyes, Du Bushi leads the Body Sect elders into Sunset Forest to obtain immortal-herb resources. Lu Chen later gives him the Aromatic Silk Beauty’s condensed immortal pill, which Du Bushi uses as a foundation for his attempt to reach the Limit Douluo realm. 79 81

Du Bushi successfully advances to Rank 99 after seclusion, becoming a Limit Douluo and dramatically raising the Body Sect’s status and deterrent power. His breakthrough is sensed by major continental factions, including the Heaven Dou Empire and Shrek Academy. 112 113

When Shrek enters Body Sect territory in force, Du Bushi defeats Mu En in repeated exchanges and refuses to overlook Qian Duoduo’s threat against the sect’s mountain gate. Although Lu Chen persuades him against immediately exterminating Shrek, Du Bushi supports the subsequent strategy of taking Shrek’s surviving experts prisoner for ransom and securing compensation for the Body Sect. 115 116 117 123

Appearance

Du Bushi is an exceptionally burly, imposing man whose appearance reflects the Body Sect’s physical-cultivation philosophy. He has short hair, a full beard, green skin, and emerald eyes. 12 17

Du Bushi values courage, directness, and relentless forward progress. He openly despises cowardice and considers resolve as important as talent when judging a potential successor. Lu Chen’s refusal to surrender while surrounded by stronger Soul Elders is what earns Du Bushi’s full approval. 18 19 21

Despite his rough manner, he is deeply protective of Lu Chen and the Body Sect’s future. He kills Fan Lü and Qian Kun after they attempt to flee from Lu Chen, using their deaths to warn Heavenly Spirit City’s hidden experts against targeting his disciple. 21

Du Bushi lives simply despite his status as a Rank 98 Super Douluo, keeping little furniture in his residence and dismissing material comfort as unnecessary. His attitude toward Lu Chen is markedly warmer than his cold treatment of outsiders; he frequently scolds and teases his disciple while indulging his ambitions. 23 49

Though initially dismissive of Soul Tool-dependent lifestyles, Du Bushi becomes increasingly willing to support Lu Chen’s reforms as the Holy Spirit Cult and the Sun Moon Empire become greater threats. He approves the creation of an Outer Sect and Soul Engineering Department, later overseeing a heavily fortified Body Sect equipped with fixed-mounted soul cannons. 69 160

His hostility toward Shrek is fierce and uncompromising when the academy threatens the Body Sect.
