Background

Du Bushi is the long-serving sect master of the Body Sect, over two hundred years old and concerned that the sect lacks a younger powerhouse capable of carrying its legacy. His central ambition is to make the Body Sect the continent’s foremost force. Before Lu Chen’s arrival, Long Aotian was regarded as the best available successor, but Du Bushi considered his Skin Martial Soul unable to match the potential of a full-body martial soul. 3

Lu Chen’s registration for the Heavenly Spirit Great Soul Arena immediately draws Du Bushi’s attention. Though Lu Chen is officially only a Rank 10 Soul Scholar, Du Bushi recognizes the unusual quality of his Body Martial Soul and becomes interested in recruiting him. 10 15

After observing Lu Chen survive an ambush by numerous Soul Elders, Du Bushi formally accepts him as a disciple. He reveals that Lu Chen’s test was never about whether he would be admitted; it was meant to judge his courage, decisiveness, and willingness to advance through danger. Du Bushi then names him the Body Sect’s future sect master. 21

At the Body Sect headquarters, Du Bushi publicly confirms Lu Chen as Young Sect Master. He silences Elder Jin Peng’s objections by having Lu Chen reveal his complete full-body martial soul, which the elders identify as nearly identical to Du Bushi’s own and possessing an ultimate light attribute. 23

Du Bushi personally gives Lu Chen the Body Secret Art and Innate Secret Art, then arranges the extreme Gravity Domain training that allows Lu Chen to repeatedly destroy and rebuild his body. Despite his rough manner, he is deeply protective of Lu Chen and the Body Sect’s future. He kills Fan Lü and Qian Kun after they attempt to flee from Lu Chen, using their deaths to warn Heavenly Spirit City’s hidden experts against targeting his disciple. 21

Du Bushi lives simply despite his status as a Rank 98 Super Douluo, keeping little furniture in his residence and dismissing material comfort as unnecessary.
