Background / History

Su Yu’s Team Rocket initially possessed more than one hundred Pokémon Eggs created through Arceus’s Power of Creation. These physical Pokémon Soul Spirits were primarily Normal-type, with a smaller number possessing Fighting-type power, and could provide contracted Soul Masters with Soul Rings and Soul Skills 8.

Arceus later established the Pokémon World within Arceus Space as a self-sustaining habitat where Pokémon could live, reproduce, and grow naturally. The world gradually returns Creation Energy to Arceus as its territory and population expand 17 21. It also became a place where approved Soul Masters could seek Pokémon partners rather than receive conventional Spirit Souls 59.

Pokémon became central to Team Rocket’s public rise. Their combat performance, ability to use Soul Master equipment, and potential to produce high-level Soul Rings challenged the Spirit Pagoda’s established Spirit Soul system 23 26. Pokémon such as Riolu also proved capable of mastering human crafts, with Riolu attaining exceptional forging results and creating living metal through its work 33.

Not all Pokémon originated from Arceus’s creations. Alakazam’s appearance before Arceus obtained the Psychic Plate, along with the Star Luo Federation’s possession of Pokémon such as Gardevoir, Pikachu, Raichu, and Dedenne, revealed a separate Pokémon-related presence beyond the Pokémon World 154 157. The Federation had captured, classified, neglected, and previously killed Pokémon after mistakenly believing they could yield Soul Rings 163.

Arceus eventually located a passage beneath Star Luo Palace leading to another Pokémon-inhabited realm. Dragon Valley, including its Pokémon population, was later merged into the Pokémon World 168 169 172.

Appearance

Pokémon have no single shared appearance. Their forms range from small animal-like creatures to massive dragons, humanoid combatants, living metal, and artificial lifeforms.

• Small forms include Pikachu, Dedenne, Charmander, Rockruff, and Riolu 59 163 168.
• Large combat forms include Snorlax, Tyranitar, Garchomp, Steelix, Charizard, and Zygarde 134 150 169.
• Humanoid manifestations can be created for exceptional Pokémon, as seen with Clara/Aggron and Rimuru/Ditto 67 78.
• Summoned partners commonly emerge from red-and-white Poké Balls 23.

Abilities & Traits

Pokémon Soul Spirit Contracts

Pokémon can form contracts with Soul Masters and act as genuine Spirit Souls rather than ordinary summoned beasts 12.

• A contracted Pokémon can provide Soul Rings and Soul Skills to its partner 8 12.
• Contracts are based on mutual recognition rather than simple ownership 19 156.
• A contract may be dissolved if both sides agree; the associated Soul Ring then disappears 19.
• Pokémon retain individual will and can choose their own trainer, as demonstrated when Alakazam willingly remained in Su Yu’s Poké Ball 156.

Types and Moves

Pokémon use elemental Types and named moves that can be taught, copied, or adapted into Soul Master combat.

• Arceus’s acquired Plates unlock Types for both Arceus and Pokémon created afterward, beginning with Fighting and Steel 3 16.
• Soul Masters with Pokémon contracts can learn Pokémon moves through practice, including Tang Wulin’s Normal-type technique and Xie Xie’s Quick Attack 54.
• Pokémon moves include offensive, defensive, movement, weather, and support techniques such as Aura Sphere, Dragon Pulse, Sandstorm, Disarming Voice, Heal Bell, and Teleport 19 57 156 163.
• Some Pokémon possess unusual Type mutations, including Golden Dragon Stufful’s Dragon attribute and Eevee’s connection to the Silver Dragon King 45 54.

Growth and Evolution

Pokémon can gain strength through training, combat, cultivation resources, and evolution.

• Riolu evolved into Lucario after refusing to retreat from Ye Xinglan’s decisive sword strike 71.
• Zygarde Core Z1 developed into Zygarde’s 10% Form through the gathering of its Cells, reaching Level 40 within roughly a month 129.
• Z1 and Z2 later combined their Cells into Zygarde’s 50% Form at Level 70 137.
• The Pokémon World originally imposed a Level 69 limit; exceptional Pokémon needed a higher-level world or outside opportunity to exceed it 67.

Mega Evolution

Some Pokémon can temporarily undergo Mega Evolution when their Mega Stone resonates with Su Yu’s Key Stone.

Pokémon are capable of using technology and equipment normally associated with Soul Masters.

• Snorlax publicly demonstrated the ability to use Battle Armor during the Class Promotion Tournament 25 26.
• Riolu became an exceptional blacksmith, earning a Level Four blacksmith badge and producing metal with Spirit-Forged properties 33.
• Alakazam demonstrated seventh-rank-or-higher forging ability by using psychic power to refine Star Silver beyond a human grandmaster’s result 155.
• Steel-type Pokémon can use special Steel-energy Thousand Refinement armor, though this specialized equipment cannot be worn by ordinary Pokémon 40.

Pokémon World

The Pokémon World is Arceus’s enclosed world within Arceus Space and serves as Pokémon’s primary habitat 17.

• Pokémon can reproduce and establish self-sustaining populations there 17.
• Its development generates Creation Energy for Arceus 21.
• Time flows differently within the world, allowing Pokémon development to proceed more quickly than on the Douluo Continent 67.
• It contains training facilities such as the Ranked Arena, where Soul Masters can battle Pokémon without permanent death 59 65.
