Background / History

Selection of Tang San

Poseidon personally chose Tang San to inherit the Sea God Position through the Nine Sea God Trials. He also issued a revelation ordering Bo Saixi to ensure Tang San’s survival until he became a god. This command bound Sea God Island to protect Tang San despite his conflict with Qian Daoliu over Qian Renxue’s apparent death 42 43 45.

Working with Asura God, Poseidon agreed to lower the trials’ difficulty so Tang San could ascend before Spirit Hall’s forces reached him. Their broader plan was for Tang San to inherit both the Sea God and Asura God positions, while his companions received other divine inheritances 42.

Destruction of Sea God Island

Bo Saixi repeatedly refused to surrender Tang San, treating Poseidon’s revelation as an obligation that outweighed the island’s survival. Her obedience drew Sea God Island into war with the Spirit Hall Empire. The Seven Sacred Pillar Douluo and the assembled Sea Soul Masters were killed, while Bo Saixi fell after fighting Qian Daoliu with borrowed Sea God Divine Power 58 59 76 78 80.

Poseidon had not expected the island to fall so quickly. With Bo Saixi dead, he complained that he might have to provide the sacrifice normally required for Tang San’s inheritance himself. Qian Daoliu subsequently sank the island, erasing Poseidon’s inheritance site 86 88.

He initially regarded the site’s destruction as inconsequential because Tang San already possessed his inheritance. Later, he complained to Asura that losing the island had cut off the faith he received from the Douluo Continent 88 105.

Efforts to Buy Tang San Time

Bibi Dong’s rapid progress toward godhood threatened the scheme. Unable to intervene openly under Divine Realm rules, Poseidon and Asura arranged for Tang San’s companions to ascend first and delay her 86 105.

The strategy repeatedly failed. Dai Mubai’s rushed inheritance left him too weak to withstand Bibi Dong, and Zhu Zhuqing’s ascension did not reverse their disadvantage. Poseidon warned that accelerating Tang San’s trials further could likewise undermine his foundation; Asura insisted that the additional God King inheritance would compensate 118 122 125.

As Tang San’s allies were defeated, the two gods agreed that Tang Chen should take him into hiding. Meanwhile, Destruction and Life grew suspicious of their activities and began investigating 127 133.

Final Intervention and Downfall

When Bibi Dong approached Tang San’s hiding place, Poseidon activated power he had left in the lower realm. His phantom demanded that she stop and promised that Tang San would not oppose her after ascending. Bibi Dong rejected the promise and shattered the projection 140 141.

The interference nevertheless bought enough time for Tang San to complete his Ninth Sea God Trial. Poseidon then watched Asura’s arrangement grant Tang San a second God Position without the originally proposed requirement to resurrect Xiao Wu as the Asura Sword Sheath 118 141.

Ye Cangming’s ascension as a Supreme God King exposed the scheme to the Divine Realm’s authorities. Destruction and Life confined Poseidon and Asura inside Sea God Hall. After Ye Cangming killed Tang San, he and Qian Renxue eventually entered the Divine Realm and destroyed both gods. Their daughter later inherited the Sea God Position 142.

Personality

Poseidon favors Tang San even when protecting him costs his followers their lives. He orders Sea God Island to preserve his successor at any cost, initially dismisses the destruction of its inheritance site, and later measures the loss in terms of his own diminished faith supply 45 88 105.

He becomes increasingly anxious and argumentative as the plan deteriorates, repeatedly questioning Asura’s preparations and regretting his own involvement. His willingness to exploit loopholes is tempered by fear of discovery: when Destruction questions him, he responds with flattery and denies that anything unusual is happening 105 108 118 122.

Despite admitting his own shamelessness, Poseidon reacts furiously when Star Luo officials consider surrendering Tang San. He interprets their conduct as betrayal and believes it may teach Tang San whom he can trust 111.

Abilities & Skills

Sea God Divine Power

Poseidon’s power can be channeled by his High Priest, allowing a mortal Soul Master to fight beyond ordinary Titled Douluo limits 68 77.

  • Empowerment and protection: Bo Saixi uses his divine power to strengthen her Sea God avatar and survive Qian Daoliu’s attacks 68.
  • Ocean-scale attacks: Through Sea God Descent, Bo Saixi summons an incarnation of his will that raises a vast tsunami 77.
  • Limits: Excessive channeling burdens Bo Saixi’s mortal body. Access to divine power does not let her wield the true Sea God Trident 66 69 78.

Divine Inheritance Administration

Poseidon oversees the Sea God Trials and can alter their difficulty to favor his successor 42 86.

  • Repeatedly reduces obstacles to accelerate Tang San’s ascension 42 86.
  • Tang San ultimately unlocks the Ninth Trial without Bo Saixi’s sacrifice, despite previously being told it was necessary 140.
  • Warns that excessively easy trials can leave a new god with an unstable foundation 125.
  • Remains constrained by Divine Realm rules and the risk of Destruction investigating his interference 86 105.

Lower-Realm Projection

Before entering the Divine Realm, Poseidon left reserve power in the lower realm that could manifest as his phantom 127 140.

  • Uses the projection to confront Bibi Dong and delay her pursuit of Tang San 140 141.
  • Acknowledges beforehand that this reserve cannot stop her permanently; she destroys the phantom 127 141.

Observation and Divine Revelations

  • Watches events on the Douluo Continent from Sea God Hall, including battles involving Tang San’s allies 118 125.
  • Sends revelations directing Bo Saixi and Sea God Island to protect his chosen heir 43 45.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Sea God Trident — Divine artifact associated with his position. Bo Saixi cannot wield the true artifact; her battle trident is condensed from her martial soul’s power. Tang San obtains the divine artifact upon completing the inheritance 66 67 141.
  • Sea God Divine Armor — Armor received by Tang San when he becomes the new Sea God, later blending with the Asura God Divine Armor 141.

Relationships

  • Asura God — Co-conspirator in Tang San’s dual inheritance. Their partnership becomes strained by repeated failures, mutual accusations, and fear of exposure 42 105 118 125.
  • Tang San — Personally selected successor and the focus of Poseidon’s interventions. Successfully inherits his throne before being killed by Ye Cangming 42 141 142.
  • Bo Saixi — High Priest and servant who obeys his revelation despite the danger to Sea God Island. Before dying, she condemns his choice of successor and regrets her own obedience 45 77 80.
  • Sea Dragon Douluo — Pillar Guardian who openly criticizes Poseidon for choosing Tang San and forcing the island to bear the consequences 59.
  • Bibi Dong — Opponent whose ascension threatens the inheritance scheme. She rejects his attempt to guarantee Tang San’s future conduct and destroys his phantom 108 140 141.
  • Destruction and Life — Investigate his collaboration with Asura and ultimately confine both gods in Sea God Hall 127 142.
  • Ye Cangming and Qian Renxue — Ultimately destroy Poseidon and Asura; their daughter later becomes the new Sea God 142.
