Academy years

Rin attended the Ninja Academy alongside Hyuga Satoru, Kakashi Hatake, Uchiha Obito, and Mitarashi Anko. She was one of the class’s standout students, earning a perfect shuriken-throwing score alongside Kakashi and competing with him to improve. 3 6

She trained alone near the Naka River after school, striking a wooden post with bandage-wrapped hands. Her focus on strength was so extreme that she initially remembered only the capable students in her class and mistook Satoru for the Hyuga Clan’s dead-last student. 6 7

Rin confronted Satoru after discovering him near Uchiha territory, believing he was trespassing and objecting to him using the same river where she bathed. She attacked him with taijutsu, shuriken, and hand seals, but Satoru knocked her into the Naka River with an electrified Gentle Fist strike. 7

Rivalry with Hyuga Satoru

Refusing to accept her defeat, Rin challenged Satoru in the academy’s taijutsu assessment. She used advanced Uchiha shurikenjutsu—making thrown weapons collide to create an inescapable net—and Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique, but Satoru defeated her with Lightning Release. Rin correctly identified his Magnet Release as a dual bloodline limit. 10

She later asked Satoru to become her regular sparring opponent, considering him more suitable than Kakashi for pushing her strength.
