Background / History

Satoru was born into the Hyuga Branch Family. His mother died in childbirth, while his father, Branch Family jōnin Hyuga Untaki, died protecting the Main Family. He inherited a small home and the qualification to attend the Ninja Academy, but also bore the Caged Bird Seal and received only 1,500 ryo per month. 1 4 16

At the Academy, Satoru cultivated a lazy reputation by sleeping through lessons, while secretly training, mining ore, and experimenting with his newly awakened Electromagnetic Force. He used riverbed metal collection, fishing, and increasingly demanding physical training to improve his control. 2 4 6

His victory over Hyuga Iroha and Uchiha Rin during the Combat Assessment exposed his Magnet Release to the public. The Hyuga leadership recognized him as the clan's first known holder of both the Byakugan and a second Kekkei Genkai; Satoru attributed the mutation to the grief and illness following his father's death. 10 11

Satoru rejected the Main Family's reverence for Gentle Fist, arguing that the technique had become a limitation on the Hyuga.
