Background / History
Saitama was a hero for three years before being transported from his original world. While watching a Hunter x Hunter rerun with Genos, he touched the television remote and was pulled into the series’ world, leaving Genos with only a scrap of his discounted yellow shirt. 1 41
A system informed him that clearing every story arc through the Dark Continent would grant his greatest desire and return him home. He accepted the Hunter Exam objective largely because a Hunter License would provide free public transportation. 1
Saitama entered the exam with prior knowledge of the series’ plot, people, and abilities. He uses that knowledge selectively, such as recognizing Hisoka’s Bungee Gum and anticipating major events, while usually avoiding changes that might disrupt the “later plot.” 16 19 27
Appearance
Saitama is a bald, 25-year-old man usually seen in a faded yellow T-shirt and sneakers. His plain, unremarkable appearance causes most people to underestimate him until they witness his strength. 2 30 41
- Smooth bald head, frequently remarked upon by Hanzo and other examinees. 17
- Wears a yellow cotton T-shirt bought for 390 yen; he is notably concerned when it is dirtied or damaged. 1 22 34
- Often carries a plastic bag containing food, sauces, seasoning bottles, or leftovers. 16 37 46
- Keeps his clothing and food in better order than the catastrophic surroundings created by battles. 23 25
Personality
Saitama is detached, blunt, and almost impossible to intimidate. Dangerous situations, killing intent, Nen attacks, and direct challenges from elite fighters usually receive the same flat response: mild boredom or practical questions about food, transportation, sleep, and shopping. 17 19 33
His strongest motivations are ordinary comforts. Free rides motivate him to pursue a Hunter License; unlimited hot pot persuades him to spar with Netero and Silva; a private room motivates him to enter Heaven’s Arena; and the promise of restored hair gives him a reason to seek the arena’s highest rank. 1 19 32 41
Despite his indifference, Saitama is not cruel. He saves Gon, Kurapika, Leorio, and Katz when they are about to be pulled overboard, shares food with others, protects a butterfly from Netero’s Zero Hand, prevents Tyson from killing the audience, and spares Salas after his surrender. 3 16 23 43 50
Abilities & Skills
Overwhelming Physical Strength
Saitama’s ordinary physical force exceeds the standards of the Hunter world and can bypass trials, defenses, and opponents without visible effort.
- Cannot be pushed by a large Hunter Exam applicant; the man breaks his own hand punching Saitama’s face. 1 2
- Pulls four people to safety with one finger while casually wringing out his shirt. 3
- Stops and carries massive Great-Nosed Wild Boars with one hand or under one arm. 7 8
- Jumps from Trick Tower’s summit, survives the landing, breaks through its foundation wall, and clears the third exam far ahead of everyone else. 11 14
- Takes Netero’s ball before the Chairman can evade, despite the latter’s century of experience. 18
- Can destroy opponents at the cellular level with a Serious Punch when necessary. 43
Extreme Durability
Saitama remains physically unharmed by attacks that devastate the environment around him.
- Netero’s supersonic strikes, 100-Type Guanyin palms, Ninety-Ninth Hand, and Zero Hand fail to injure or even displace him. 21 22 23
- Silva’s Nen-enhanced assassination techniques, Nen bullets, Big Orb, and full-power punch leave him largely concerned about his shirt rather than his body. 33 34
- Salas Veyel’s steel-cutting threads only make him feel itchy. 45
- Tyson’s Chimera Ant-hybrid body and corrosive mucus do not meaningfully threaten him. 42 43
Strength Control and Combat Insight
Although his baseline strength is catastrophic, Saitama can restrain himself around ordinary people.
- Stops a potentially lethal punch against “Iron Wall,” redirects its wind, and accidentally wins by landing on him instead. 41
- Halts a “proper punch” just before Silva’s forehead, allowing Silva to experience its pressure without being struck. 34
- Identifies a minor adjustment to Silva’s technique that could double the rotation speed of his aura bullet. 34
- Refuses to seriously attack Netero and Silva because both have promised him hot pot afterward. 23 33
Instinctive Perception and Nen Anomaly
Saitama has no documented Nen training; Netero explicitly notes that he has not awakened Nen. Nonetheless, he repeatedly performs actions that Nen users cannot explain. 23
- The elderly examiner and Fox Bear are alarmed when his presence appears to nullify or absorb the examiner’s Nen. 4
- Casually removes one of Illumi’s facial Nen Needles and senses Illumi’s killing intent without reacting to it. 17
- Locates Salas behind an illusion without seeing him, explaining that he merely felt watched. 46
- Recognizes Hisoka’s Bungee Gum before seeing it used, attributing the knowledge to having watched an anime. 16
Named Techniques
- Consecutive Normal Punches — A rapid barrage used against Tyson’s regeneration and Salas’s mosquito swarm. 43 48
- Serious Punch — Overwhelms Tyson’s Collapsing Star Roaring Cannon and erases his physical body at the cellular level. 43
- Consecutive Serious Punches — Shatters the core of Tyson’s Post-Mortem Nen construct, ending Immortal Champion’s Will. 44
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Hunter License — Earned directly from Chairman Netero. 18
- Plastic bag — Used to carry groceries, leftovers, sauces, and barbecue sauce; Saitama protects it even during combat. 37 46
- Barbecue sauce bottle — A discounted purchase whose damage provokes Saitama into genuine anger. 46 48
- Salt and cumin — Borrowed from a Trick Tower examiner and kept for cooking. 16 17
- Hanzo’s business card — Given after the two bond over being bald. 17
Relationships
- Genos — His disciple and remote observer. Genos studies every action Saitama takes, manages food and household supplies in his absence, and remains protective even when Saitama is unconcerned. 1 8 50
- Gon Freecss — A persistent friend who calls him “Big Brother Saitama.” Gon’s goodwill gradually reduces Saitama’s irritation, and Saitama later waits for Gon’s group after receiving his license. 2 3 18
- Killua Zoldyck — Companion through Heaven’s Arena. Saitama follows Gon and Killua there after remaining behind at the Zoldyck estate to finish hot pot. 37 39
- Isaac Netero — Hunter Association Chairman and sparring partner. Netero is unable to make Saitama fight seriously, but their clash ends with mutual respect and hot pot. 18 21 23
- Hisoka Morow — An increasingly obsessed observer who wants a death match with Saitama. Saitama repeatedly dismisses the idea as troublesome. 14 19
- Silva Zoldyck — Tests Saitama in a serious sparring match, exhausts his aura without harming him, then accepts Saitama’s advice and honors his hot-pot promise. 32 34
- Mike — The Zoldyck family’s three-headed guard dog. Mike and the other guard dogs become affectionate after Saitama shares corn, and Saitama later feeds Mike dipping sauce. 31 37
- Salas Veyel — Heaven’s Arena opponent whose threads damage Saitama’s barbecue sauce. Saitama defeats but spares him after deciding that Salas is not a monster. 46 50
- Boros — A long-awaited opponent whose rematch with Saitama is set for the 120th floor. 50
Story Role / Major Arcs
Hunter Exam
Saitama enters the Hunter Exam immediately after crossing worlds. He unintentionally intimidates examinees, rescues the core group during the voyage, bypasses Trick Tower by jumping directly to the ground, and earns a Hunter License ahead of the final stages by taking Netero’s ball. 2 3 11 18
On Glasses Island, he endures Netero’s entire 100-Type Guanyin arsenal—including Zero Hand—without injury. His only serious movement is to protect a Bloodthirsty Butterfly from the blast. 21 22 23
Zoldyck Family Arc
Saitama accompanies Gon, Kurapika, Leorio, and Netero to Kukuroo Mountain. Silva initially mistakes him for an ordinary tourist because he cannot detect Nen from him. 30
At the estate, Saitama wins over the lethal guard dogs with leftover corn, then spars with Silva after being offered unlimited hot-pot ingredients. He defeats Silva without striking him directly and leaves the Zoldycks to rebuild their ruined training ground. 31 32 34
Heaven’s Arena Arc
Saitama reaches Heaven’s Arena by walking directly from Kukuroo Mountain. He registers only because competitors receive private rooms, but the system turns the climb into a hidden mission after offering hair restoration as a reward. 39 41
The system upgrades the venue into Heaven’s Arena (God) before his match with Tyson, summoning allies, rivals, and figures from other dimensions as spectators. Saitama defeats Tyson’s physical form, destroys his Post-Mortem Nen construct, then clears the 110th floor by defeating Salas Veyel. 42 43 44 50

“You're so annoying.” 48
“Why would I kill you? You're not a monster.” 50
Trivia
- Saitama accepted the Hunter Exam quest because a Hunter License grants free rides on buses, trains, subways, and ships. 1
- He considers Netero’s advanced martial-arts barrage comparable to a free massage chair. 21
- His first Heaven’s Arena victory was achieved by accidentally sitting on his opponent rather than punching him. 41
- Genos concludes from that match that even Saitama’s “butt” has been trained to invincibility. 41
- The promise of regrowing his hair is one of the few rewards that visibly excites him. 41
